C-Span Q&A Does "Shooting Michael Moore"

C-Span's Sunday night hour of "Q&A" today involved an interview with Kevin Leffler, a Michigan CPA who is sinking about $100k of his own money into a documentary which he calls "Shooting Michael Moore". Leffler knew and worked with Moore and says that the public persona Moore touts is nothing like the Moore he knew. His film, from which numerous clips are presented during Q&A, is a takeoff on Moore's "Roger and Me" and portrays Leffler trying to track down and question Moore about many inaccuracies and outright lies he says Moore includes in his various films. The picture Leffler presents is of a lying, opportunistic and exceptionally vindinctive man (at one point Moore sends a henchman to threaten Leffler's daughter, an on air reporter for a Michigan TV station, with firing if she takes any pictures of him during a local film festival). This is a must see when it's repeated on C-Span at 11:00 P.M. tonight and 6:00 A.M. tomorrow (EDT).
TOPICS: Culture/Society; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: cspan; documentary; greatmovietitle; leffler; liar; michaelmoore; moore; opportunist; phoney
If you're interested, better watch it while you can on C-Span. Leffler is having trouble finding a distributer for the film because many in the industry are afraid of Moore's power and ability to get even with anyone who goes up against him. It is a fascinating work though, with people apparently almost lining up to go on camera to tell Leffler of how they were used and lied to by Moore. Well worth the hour to watch on C-Span.....

I watched some of it. The guy seemed like a hack, and the incessant fat jokes didn’t help his credibility either. I clicked away.

Nice title, like the double-entendre...

The exceptionally vindinctive, lying, opportunistic Moore peddles inaccuracies and outright lies.
Yes but it's the intent that counts, he means to do good. It's what ultra-liberals (and beyond) do.

Everybody knows how Moore works. It is just that the people sympathetic to his point of view give his lying butt cover. Takes a lot to cover it too.

Fox films might back it. They are being attacked by folks like Michael Moore and the whole liberal world anyway...

Well, there’s the ground contamination, the poisoning of natural scavengers and concern for underlying groundwater. Best we shoot him into the sun.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I watched it and it’s very interesting. The man, Kevin, who did this, is really to be admired. I hope he does more like this. He said he had many people actually come to him with their complaints about Michael Moore.
The few clips that CSPAN showed of Kevin’s movie, were very interesting.

Michael Moore owns stock in Haliburton???...Oh yes - in his book "Do As I Say (Not As I Do), Peter Schweizer runs down a list of Moore's stock holdings and observes "...And in perhaps the ultimate irony, he also has owned shares in Halliburton. According to IRS filings, Moore sold Halliburton for a fifteen percent profit and bought shares of Noble, Ford, General Electric (another defense contractor), AOL Time Warner (evil corporate media) and McDonald's (well-known despoiler of the Amazon , bad-will ambassodor abroad, and purveyor of American obesity) - not bad for a guy fighting the terrible big corporations.......

...It is just that the people sympathetic to his point of view give his lying butt cover...I was amused at Leffler's befuddlement over the fact that he had been able to uncover so much negative material on Moore that he had never seen reported in the major media - "there seems to be a piece missing" he mused - duh - Moore helps get their agenda across, naturally they're not going to help show him up for the fraud he is......
To: Huck
The guy seemed like a hack...
What did he do or say that "seems like a hack"? That seems like an odd, prejudiced comment. He came across to me as sincere and credible.
and the incessant fat jokes didnt help his credibility either.
I tuned in during the middle of the program, and watched across three clips, including the Marine recruiter from Michigan, his parents, and the camera operator from Roger and me. During that entire period he didn't make a single comment on Moore's weight. This is clearly NOT incessant.
Seems to me you are trying to shoot down a messenger whose message you don't agree with. At least, that's how it comes across to me...
To: Huck
The guy seemed like a hack, and the incessant fat jokes didnt help his credibility either. I clicked away...I watched it twice and actually can't remember one fat joke - if you hadn't clicked away you would have seen real people talking in real words about how they felt used and deceived by Moore - the guy who wasn't really being evicted from his apartment, the guy who was really wounded in an accident and not in combat, the recruiting sargeant who was persuaded to go on camera because he was told Moore was doing a show for the Discovery Channel, the woman who was duped out of her rights to any interest in his movie because she couldn't read the paper she was asked to sign ("He says he's working for the little guy, but he's really working for the big guy, Michael Moore") - pretty good stuff for a hack......
To: Auntie Mame
The man, Kevin, who did this, is really to be admired...hate to agree, but I do - he described himself as a Democrat who voted for Kerry and doesn't like President Bush; as Brian Lamb pointed out, his antipathy to the war, big corporations and the current medical system is surely in agreement with Moore's, but he is nevertheless going after the real negative facts on Michael - if all 'rats were interested in the truth wherever it fell instead of holding on to power and protecting their own, what a wonderful world it would be....

You must have missed the fat jokes. Anyway, the guy’s point seems to be that Moore is a limousine lib/ hypocrite. Ok, fine. I don’t have a problem with that. I just thought he did a weak job of establishing that. So the guy doesn’t live in Flint. Who f-ing cares? It’s a bit ironic of you to accuse me of shooting the messenger. That’s what this poorly made movie was apparantly all about. I’d be much more supportive of work that attacked Moore’s assertion, rather than his personal lifestyle. It’s no wonder the movie hasn’t been picked up.

Anyone know where I can purchase this film?
I checked Amazon & unless I did something wrong in my search it appears they
don’t have it~ suggestions?
To: Intolerant in NJ
Go and see the movie, it is will worth the time and money. I am just amazed at the things that Michael Moore says and what he does to his “raw footage.” He will edit the video so he can make people say things that are really not being said. In his movie, Kevin Leffler goes back an re-interviews the people in Mr. Moore’s movie and gets the truth! Mr. Moore’s movie are garabage!

Thanks for the post - I had forgotten about this and had to go back to refresh my memory on Leffler and his movie - he wasn’t too optimistic about how he was going to get it made during his original interview, but if you’ve seen it apparently he’s had some success - in fact a Yahoo search shows a number of online references to “Shooting Michael Moore” including one web page from last month listing several commercial movie houses now showing it, all apparently in Michigan - did you see it in that area or is it more widely distributed (let’s hope)? - I haven’t seen it advertised as showing anywhere in or around Philly so I don’t know if I’ll have a chance to catch it on the big screen, but I recall Leffler saying he was going to try to put it out on DVD, and maybe I’ll be able to get a copy that way if and when it becomes available - nice to have the follow-up.....
