Commentary: Illegal immigration is a self-inflicted wound (Major Barf Alert)
CNN.Com / US ^ | updated 4:20 p.m. EDT, Mon July 16, 2007 | By Ruben Navarrette Jr.

Posted on 07/31/2007 8:30:47 AM PDT by F15Eagle

Fresno, CALIFORNIA (CNN) -- We already knew we had broken borders. And when Congress chickened out on immigration reform and showed that it's not equipped to tackle anything more challenging than pork or pay raises, we knew we had a broken branch. Now it's clear that we have a broken dialogue.

We like to think of ourselves, and our communities, as innocent victims of sinister forces that are beyond our control. Concerned that there are too many illegal immigrants in the United States, that our culture is getting too spicy, and that the country is becoming too Hispanic, we blame Mexico or mega-corporations or what one commentator ominously labeled "socio-ethnic centric groups" such as the National Council of La Raza.

You see, illegal immigration is always someone else's fault. At least that's what we tell ourselves. It's easier that way.

And, when we do engage the topic, we get distracted by arguments over whether, for instance, a town such as Hazleton, Pennsylvania, has the right to dabble in do-it-yourself immigration enforcement or whether the Founding Fathers were on the right track in prohibiting that sort of thing by conceiving of the supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution, which says that a state or locality cannot pass laws that interfere with federal law.

Pepto-Bismol might help ... The Houston Chron has been using more propaganda the past few days too.

Soon, all the drug dealers hopping the borders will be the fault of law-abiding American citizens, too.

Towns like Hazleton seem to think that they deserve some relief and some sympathy. But one thing they don't deserve is a free pass.

Neither do illegal aliens.

Exactly. Deport and fine / prosecute criminal employers in the U.S. Those two will go a long ways to solving a major piece of this problem. Once they start doing it regularly, it will have a chilling effect and part of the problem, not all of course, will begin to solve itself.

......we get distracted by arguments over whether the Founding Fathers were on the right track conceiving of the supremacy clause of the US Constitution, which says that a state or locality cannot pass laws that interfere with federal law...........

This sucker is a prime example of illegals dual loyalty-------their contempt and disdain for the US and US laws----and their obeisance to their corrupt homelands.

The founding fathers were very, very clear. The federal government should be the weakest part of our government. The local government should be the strongest because the closer you get to the people, the more it is in connection with the people and its will .........That's why you're seeing communities like Hazelton stepping in........

The US rule of law is central to our survival as a democracy........what distingushes the US from the hellholes of the world.

Illegals are underming our democracy.

Their contempt for our laws is a danger to our Nation. Illegals obviously feel comfortable in the US only by degrading the US into a Third World banana republic——into one of those South and Central American hellholes from which they emanate

The Hazelton law AUGMENTED federal immigration law, it didn’t interfere with it. Unless there’s some immigration law that permits illegals to live and work in this country without penalty that I don’t know about...

This is from and email I recently recieved, I don’t know how accurate this is. Here it is....

Hope these 14 reasons are forwarded over and over again until they are read by the majority of Americans. Then they will have something to yell at their U.S. Congressmembers.

14 Reasons to Deport Illegal Aliens...

1. $11 Billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year. http://tinyurl.com/zob77

2. $2.2 Billion dollars a year is spent on food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches for illegal aliens. http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html

3. $2.5 Billion dollars a year is spent on Medicaid for illegal aliens. http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexechtml

4. $12 Billion dollars a year is spent on primary and secondary school education for children here illegally and they cannot speak a word of English! http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.0.html

5. $17 Billion dollars a year is spent for education for the American-born children of illegal aliens, known as anchor babies. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html

6. $3 Million Dollars a DAY is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html

7. 30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html

8. $90 Billion Dollars a year is spent on illegal aliens for

Welfare & social services by the American taxpayers. http://premium.cnn.com/TRANSCIPTS/0610/29/ldt.01.html

9. $200 Billion Dollars a year in suppressed American

wages are caused by the illegal aliens. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html

10. The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that’s two and a half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children, are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the United States . http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0606/12/ldt.01.html

11. During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from Terrorist Countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroine and marijuana, crossed into

the U. S. from the Southern border. Homeland Security Report: http://tinyurl.com/t9sht

12. The National Policy Institute, “estimated that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period.” http://www.nationalpolicyinstitute.org/pdf/deportation.pdf

13. In 2006 illegal aliens sent home $45 BILLION in remittances back to their countries of origin. http://www.rense.com/general75/niht.htm

14. “The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration: Nearly One Million Sex Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants In The United States “. http://www.drdsk.com/articleshtml

So using the LOWEST estimates, the annual cost OF ILLEGAL ALIENS is $338.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR! So if deporting them costs between $206 and $230 BILLION DOLLARS, Hell get rid of em’, We’ll be ahead after the 1st year!!!

Please pass this on. Americans need to wake up!

That's the only part I can (more or less) agree with. We have caused the problem by failing to secure the borders, by not building the WALL, by not militarizing the border, by not mining the access points, or by not forcing the elites out of power and establishing a true democratic republic in Mexico (choose your preferred degree of action, from least to most).

Navaerretes ilk are all over San Diego county, one of the last bastions of conservatism left in California. Rick Roberts, a local radio host on KFMB who sometimes fills in for Michael Savage, is a mjor thorn in the side of illegals here.

When Navarrete was talking about “Hate” on the radio, he was talking primarily about Rick. If you haven’t heard him, check out the streaming audio.

I wonder what Navarrette would think if lots and lots of “Anglos” crossed the border with Mexico illegally, then started acting out and demanding all the rights, perks and privileges of Mexican citizens, overloading Mexican hospital emergency rooms and schools, refusing to even attempt to learn Spanish, etc., etc., etc.

I’m sure if the shoe was on the other foot, he wouldbe sympathetic to us and would take up our cause against the “mean”, “nasty”, “oppressive” and “racist” Mexicans......NOT!

If a flood of “Anglos” did indeed to to Mexico what they are doing to us, not only would there have been bloodshed long ago, but you can bet your bottom dollar every “Anglo” would be in a Mexican prison for a very long time.

What’s good for the goose ain’t good for the gander, apparently.

Ruben Nav. has been writing this from the San Diego Union on a daily level. He calls Lou Dobbs , Freepers, Rush, Bill O and Sean racists. We need to , according to Ruben, welcome all these people in as we did the Irish and Germans because they will make real Americans. Illegals! Criminals, drug runners, mules, coyotes, gun runners, one wonders just how these types could make good Americans. There are many immigrants from Latin America et al who make good Americans but they come in legally. Sorry but I am in Lou’s and Rush’s corner on this one.
