I don’t claim to know the strategy. But it will blamed for him losing this thing, I’m guessing, at some point.

I'd never read that Spencer Abraham was co-campaign manaager except in those articles that were trying to bash Fred by bashing Spencer. I'd only read that they'd brought him on to connect with folks in Washington, since Spencer had been active there more recently than Fred. Some guy from Florida is going to be Fred's campign manager.

With the New Hampshire primary expected to be in January, only five months away, Cullen said "at some point your elected officials and people who give endorsements and give a candidate credibility commit to another candidate."

That's the problem. There are actually only five more months for Thompson and the other candidates to campaign in the primaries, given the sudden death system we've backed ourselves into since 1980. In 1980 the primaries and caucuses ran from January to June, finishing off with the great, climactic California battle. Then it was immediately on the conventions. Now the primary season is actually advanced by about six moths because the primaries will all be over by the end of March. Thus, we are actually at the beginning of the main primary campaigning season, which will end by the end of March. Fred needs to get in and get he kinks worked out of his campaign.

Yes, but Zach Wamp is one of his biggest, earliest, and most conservative supporters. I think Fred would do wise to listen to his good friend and fellow Tennesseean here.

He should have announced on July 4th and gone barnstorming in Iowa this summer and he’d be out in front there for the straw poll. Opportunity missed.
