I grew up and went to school in the 1950’s, graduating HS in 1960. I knew of NO ONE who was on any sort of medication to control behavior. Kids behaved in class because the feared the consequences if they didn't. It was just that simple.

What we have today is nothing more then the government schools and the NEA unions using behavior modification drugs as an indoctrination tool. The parents of these poor kids are simply not smart enough to see what is going on. I for one would NEVER allow my child to be put on Ritalin or any other similar drug simply to make the teachers job easier.

Kid’s also had recess in the 50’s. Something that public schools don’t want to take the time for now.

We homeschooled and when my very squirmy, active son was having a bad day, I would have him run a few laps around our 1/3 acre property. Surprisingly, he became quite teachable.

When I was in the 3rd grade in 1966, my teacher told a visitor to our class that I was a good student but sometimes I was on Cloud 9. I shudder to think what they’d do to me now.

What horror for parents who refuse to drug their children and risk imprisonment for “medical neglect.” Chalk this one up as more support for home schooling if you live in such a town.

Another point — young people who may have wanted to join the military won’t be able to if they’ve been on Ritalin. Is this the Leftist NEA Teachers Union way of nuking our National Defense?

The problem is not any “disease”.

It is lack of SERIOUS (not namby-pamby) discipline.

But this is what happens in a society where not only is real discipline frowned upon, but where every person is excused as having some bogus “disease” to explain his “problem”. Probably starting with “alcoholism”.

Oh, unless you’re homosexual. Then, there’s nothing wrong with you.

Okay, I tend to agree on ADD and ADHD.

BUT this:

“Nowhere in world’s literature is there proof that a single psychiatric diagnosis is an actual disease.”

deserves the Bull Sh#t flag.

I wouldn’t say that. There’s too much recess, and sex ed, and art and gym, and not enough serious intellectual study.

Parents that don’t want to discipline their children and thus the kids are out of control is one of the reasons children are being medicated. Physicians too quickly handing out medication is another reason. Parents too involved in their yuppie lifestyles is another reason coupled with those parents that are on their second, third, and fourth marriage.

The Liberal public school system, that is broken, resorts to reporting children with discipline problems that they can’t control. Another dirty little secret is that schools receive “federal tax dollars” for “special needs” children. The more of your children that can be labeled “special needs” the better.

Follow the money.

“ADHD is not a disorder, disease, syndrome or chemical imbalance of the brain. It is not over-diagnosed, under-diagnosed, or mis-diagnosed. It doesn’t exist. It is a total, 100%, Fraud.” Nowhere in world’s literature is there proof that a single psychiatric diagnosis is an actual disease. “ADHD and all of psychiatry’s “chemical imbalances” are manufactured diseases- invented diseases that results in huge profits for psychiatrists and pharmaceutical companies.”

At that point we can safely assume the guy is a doofus. There is a gross and ligitimately disgusting over-prescriptioning of children, but clearly ADHD exists, and Ritalin is helpful for some of them.

“too much sex ed”
by definition, (shouldn’t be in schools)

“not enough serious intellectual study”
true, but there’s plenty of very serious liberal indoctrination

Same with me. Although we did have three boys (all small for their age) who couldn’t keep quiet or still. Needless to say, our 6th grade would march, almost daily, in a circle at recess because the class would be punished if one misbehaved. We could count on marching most of our recessess (rain or shine). One of the boys skipped the 7th because of his intellegence. All turned out fine. Although the nun who taught us 6th grade later had to be put to pasture! Yeah!

Ritalin is mind altering to the extreme. A shrink put me on it when I was still in elementary school. It can turn a normal boy of that age into a passive, frightened little animal that will constantly hide behind his mother's skirt.

Ritalin should be dealt with in the same way that crack cocaine is.

Homeschoolers know about the “just medicate him” philosophy. That’s what’s driving lots of parents to pull their kids out.

Becoming food and beverage police is one of the first things homeschoolers do.

You can’t teach a kid who just had two bowls of FruitLoops for breakfast.

The elephant in the room here is that boys and girls learn in different ways and need different teaching methods. The public schools have decreed that not to be the case and are trying to force a one size fits all curriculum on school kids, and it's never going to work.

Do you have documentation on this? I thought about joining the Navy out of high school. Turns out they might not've taken me anyway.

Lazy teachers, mostly women who hate boys, push this dope by the millions.

According to Psychiatrists, boys being active are abnormal and need medicating, while homosexuality is normal and healthy.
