I Don't Dislike Democrats, I Oppose the Progressive-Left
The New Media Journal ^ | August 3, 2007 | Frank Salvato

Posted on 08/03/2007 4:17:15 AM PDT by NewMediaJournal

Too often those who opine on political matters make the mistake of directing their criticism – or accolades – toward a generalized group when in fact the comments are meant for a more specific faction commingled within that group. I, at least on a few occasions, stand guilty as charged. This type of generalization has contributed to the coarse ideological divisions in our country and has become the modus operandi of politicos and pundits alike, from all avenues of political thought. At a time when our nation is embroiled in a critical struggle for survival and in an effort to realize a more cohesive American political and social culture, I believe it may behoove those of us who scrutinize and maintain a comprehensive understanding of politics and events surrounding the elected-class to start correctly identifying the groups with which we take issue.

For the record, the Progressive-Left is an aggressive faction currently ensconced within the Democrat Party. Where most Progressive-Leftists are Democrat (some of the more extreme are Green and even Socialist or Communist), most Democrats are not Progressive-Leftists. In fact, where mainstream Democrats and Republicans are concerned, we, as thoughtful Americans, have much more in common than not, explaining why an overwhelming majority of the American public considers themselves moderate or mainstream in their political leanings.

Total BS. The progressive left is now the Rat party mainstream. From their presidential candidates, the majority leaders of the House and Senate, etc. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is 1980. If you replayed that election today, Walter Mondale would get nearly half of the electoral votes instead of getting blown out by Reagan. The far left is now about half the electorate, and they are democRAT.

most Democrats are not Progressive-Leftists...

No? Then why does their probable presidential nominee identify herself as one?

At a time when our nation is embroiled in a critical struggle for survival Wow, a bit of hyperbolic hyperboly, eh wot?
I would hope that if our nation were to get to the point where we are really in a critical struggle for survival, we'll get out sheit together like we did in WW2.
What we've done so far is not all that impressive...

I dislike the term “liberal” for today’s modern leftists; they reject too many of the elements of classical liberalism. I reject “progressive” as a descriptor of their politics as well - I just don’t see many of their policies as promoting progress. Let’s call them what they are. Leftists, socialists, communists. Pick one of those and I don’t suffer cognitive dissonance.

“I call them “comrade”!”

I call them “Godless” as that is the reason why it’s all about themselves.

I call them Commie-Vampires, who suck the lifeblood out of everything good in this country, and shrink from God and the flag.

Progressive

'Progressive' was the term the early American Communists used to describe themselves. Fitting.

I despise those who micro-scrutinize words and meanings to the point they are unrecognizable. I despise those who claim no affiliatiion with the "worst parts" of their leader's beliefs, while still supporting their leaders. In the end, the simple, sweet, unassuming mid-west Depression era democrat is going to vote for the progressive (D) on the ticket. All they see is the bottom line: (D) or (R).

For the record, I also despise the word "behoove".

Salvato is correct about the goals and intentions of the Progressive Left (I prefer to avoid that self-descriptive moniker in favor of what they really are: Socialists). But there is little doubt that the Democrat Party is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of that movement, and that Democrat politicians are now almost exclusively members of the Left. There are still some moderate-to-conservative folks (usually older, mostly blue-collar, often Catholic) who have hung on to their Democrat voter registrations, but they are increasingly rare.

It's Hillary's party, now...and Barack's and Johnny's and Chuckie's and Harry's and Nancy's, too. And they are all far to the Left of anything one might consider the "center". Unless you work for the New York Times, which still appears to consider Fidel Castro as a moderate agrarian reformer whose health care and educational systems ought to serve as models for the Western world.

As movement liberals used to say in the '60s, there are "no enemies to the Left" - only other "Progressives". Anyone else (those to the Right) was a "Fascist". In the '60s, only Yippies and Hippies talked that way. Today, legislators do. Many of them have long since cut their hair, but not their ties to the radical, America-hating Left.
