Wikipedia defines Xenophobia is a fear or contempt of foreigners or strangers.[1] It comes from the Greek words xenos, meaning “foreigner,” “stranger,” and phobos, meaning “fear.” The term is typically used to describe fear or dislike of foreigners or in general of people different from one’s self.
A recent (02.08.07) report published by the Moscow Human Rights Bureau and based on statistics of xenophobic conflicts in the regions shows where in Russia foreign guests are most likely to encounter xenophobia. The 3rd position in this “rating” belongs to the city on the Neva River – St. Petersburg. It is followed by Nizhniy Novgorod Region, taking the 2nd position. And finally, the leading xenophobic area in Russia is still Moscow and the Moscow Region – here the biggest number of conflicts between the locals and foreigners has been registered.
The most frequent victims of xenophobic conflicts in Russia are citizens of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. However, British, Afghan, Indian, Vietnamese, Jordanian, Palestinian citizens and Gypsy have also been registered to happen to get involved in this type of conflicts.

maybe being xenophobe is a good thing. Look at what is happening in this nation of ours.

Multiculturalism is a failure.

The British would do better if they gave up protecting Boris Berezovsky and Akhmad Zakayev, both wanted in Russia.

I was told by a babushka to take my hands out of my pockets in an Orthodox Church. Does this count?

1) Do better than what?
2) Protecting them how?
3) Wanted for What?
4) What is their value to Great Britain?

wanted to make sure he wasn’t packing heat. but seriously I experienced it in Oaxaca Mexico. Never forget it. My wife and I were walking through the market and I picked up a chili to to pretend to bite while my wife snapped the shot. The little person tending the produce went fairly ugly at me. Really funny. She was about 4 foot nothing. Those Spanish Conquistadors were real brave guys.

I was never sure what xenophobic meant but I guess I am not that. Our neighbors on one side are a French woman and her English husband and we are very good friends. The other side is a Japanese couple and we are cordial but not close and my very best friend and her husband are Dutch. My next best friend is from South Africa.

Berezovsky is a criminal and a wannabe poltician. Zakayev is/was a terrorist and a wannabe freedom fighter. Value to Britain is in any future negotiation but it hasn't seemed to have helped BP or Shell.

There is no extradition treaty between Russia and the UK.

...anyone who wants to protect their culture, values & way of life is considered a "____phobic"

That only applies to white Christians.

This is really an issue in Orthodox churches. Many priests are unhappy but can't do anything about such practice of the old ladies.

But Old rite believers are more fierce: they just close doors of the church for liturgy.

My Russian hosts told me just to ignore her, as they did the well-turned-out middle-aged lady asking me for money outside the crowded Maritimer-owned Irish beer parlor. I wanted to give this sweetie some money just because she was so good-looking but they discouraged me so thoroughly, I decided not to. I didn’t want to insult them. Russian pride.

I think they said so because otherwise she would have been encouraged to start a long bothering talk. Just because of sincere gratitude.
