New York authorities were questioning three men found in a bizarre submersible vessel floating just off Manhattan on Friday, according to local reports. The men were discovered early Friday near the cruise terminal in Brooklyn where the massive ocean liner The Queen Mary II is moored, ABC television reported on its website.
When asked about the incident, a police spokeswoman declined to confirm the report or provide any further information, saying only that officers were at the scene.
What the three men were doing in the vessel -- which appeared to be spherical with a circular hatch on top -- was not immediately clear.
According to ABC, there was no indication that the discovery was terror-related -- a constant fear in New York following the September 11 Al-Qaeda attacks on New York.
ABC's radio affiliate WABC reported that the vessel was equipped with oxygen tanks.

No description of the men. Must be caucasian Americans.

“there was no indication that the discovery was terror-related”
What’s the nationality of the occupants? The authorities would say that “there is no indication” even if the occupants were Iranian nationals.
They would probably also say that “the discovery” was not terror related. Its the submarine that was terror related.

unless they know the backgrounds of the 3 men, the whats and whys, they cant say for sure its not connected to terrorism. They are too fast to say its not.

Oh, I don't know about that. When it's a wooden replica of
a submarine from the 1770s, I'm pretty sure those on hand probably guessed that a terrorist would use something a lot more modern, that actually had a chance of working (1770s submarine technology, while impressive for its time, is not going to match a terrorist in SCUBA gear ).
As soon as I saw
the pictures, the history geek in me immediately realized what it was, and trust me, one person with SCUBA gear would be much more effective than this thing.
Heck, the Hunley was safer than this thing, and that's not saying much.
To: Ranxerox
To me, sounds more like drug runners then terrorists, but without the details, hard to tell.

They did a good job of making the replica (although they picked the wrong place to test it out, there are plenty of areas around New York where they wouldn't spook anybody, or they should have had a banner or two clearly stating what they were doing).
You couldn't pay me enough to climb in that thing though, even if it used modern materials. Bushnell was a genius, but dang, that's a "here, hold my beer while I climb into this thing" kind of setup.

My brother and I convinced Mom and Dad to order it. They opened the box, took a look, and sent it back the next day for a refund.
So, I'd say thin cardboard, but that was about 40 years ago, when $6.98 was real money.

I saved my money and ordered one... I checked the mail everyday for WEEKS until it arrived.
You put it together and it was a cardboard box with printing on the outside to vaguely suggest it was a submarine.
The “rockets” were little plastic Mercury-type capsules about 3 inches in diameter, and you “launched” them by putting them on the end of a plastic tube that had a bulb on the other end that you would compress by hitting it with your hand - the air pressure would make them pop off. The launch tube stuck out through the cardboard.
The “torpedoes” were little 6” plastic things you shot through a cardboard tube with a rubber band.
Kind of disappointing, but I played with it for weeks.
