"During the show, Mickelson, a staunch conservative, pressed Romney on his abortion views and then pointed out that LDS doctrine discourages the practice. Romney, as he always does, was quick to steer the conversation away from what his church stands for. But Mickelson kept at it when the program went to break."

Why would one be agitated to comment on what his church stands for? It's part of the deal running for POTUS.

I won’t vote for Mitt because he is a Mormon. It’s a strange religion that was debunked years ago when the U.S. Supreme Court outlawed polygamy. He’ll be as “testy” on other issues ... he lacks the temperament for President and flip flops on issues. He’s a lost cause. He can admire himself all he likes in the mirror but he won’t have my vote and won’t win. He’s just a spoiler.

This thread should get some kind of award for despicable religious bigotry, don’t you think — or don’t you?

Wow! Mitt handles himself well in that Video! Very impressive. Especially considering when Jan Mickelson says that they are off the record!

Mickelson has a valid point that Mitt seems
to miss...

By avoiding the elephant in the room (mormonism),
it makes Mitt look evasive and uncomfortable with
who he professes to be. It appears that way to
voters.

My own theory is that voters need to believe that
when they hear a candidate talk, he really believes
what they are hearing him say. Those with strong
convictions are recognized - and this is an “internal
consistency” test voters apply.

Clinton had a unique way of dealing with this...

He is such an accomplished liar, that when voters heard
him speak, they really believed that he believed the
things he was saying.

If Mitt continues this path, it makes him look evasive,
shifty, inconsistent, etc. I am not saying he is. But
it appears that he knows mormonism is such an issue that
he is avoiding talking about it in order to not make it
the focus. This will not be the easiest thing to deal
with no matter which path he takes.

I actually think he handled himself well, generally.
His problem was when he reacted to the suggestions
instead of hearing what Mickelson was trying to
communicate. How can he be an effective CEO, if he
doesn’t know how to listen???

Standard Disclosures Apply: I won’t vote for anyone
in a cult for POTUS, etc.

best,
ampu

“but most of all agitated at being forced to defend what he and his church stand for.”

If it’s just a normal ole Christian Church, why be agitated about speaking on it?

The interviewer was very aggressive and rude. He wanted to conduct an interrogation and frequently interrupted his guest. Mitt was gracious and made many valid points.

I don’t understand why a talk show host would deny a valued guest the time to talk. David Frost allowed his guests to have their say. Robert Novak hosted a little known interview show several years ago. He allowed his guests, liberal or conservative, to express themselves without interruption.

I saw Mitt here and he is right. You can have views that guide your life without trying to make it the law for everyone else. Whether it is drinking, adultery, smoking, charging interest, lack of tact, shooting coyotes - or not, or anything else, your rules for yourself need not be the law for all. This seems a pretty basic distinction that everyone should understand. This distinction is central to the concept of tolerance.

I once saw Mitt briefly on 60 minutes as I was flipping channels. Mitt tried to explain that his actions as President might differ in a particular case from his actions as Governor. That was brushed off. Hello 60 minutes, ever here of the 10th amendment? Federalism? States should have powers are denied to the federal Government. Before Roe v Wade, different states had different laws on abortion. Georgia and New York are different. Georgians and New Yorkers like it that way. So one might support a law in Massachusetts that one should never think to inflict upon the nation as a whole.

Mitt is smart enough to make valid distinctions. Many of his detractors just can’t keep up. In many cases, it seems they are seeing red and just can’t see or think straight.

No it’s not. He’s not running for Bishop. He’s running for President. He doesn’t have to answer the question what his Church’s views are. He only has to answer the question what his own views are.

I am so proud of Mitt and have said all along that LDS would not imposed their believe on others but a true LDS would practiced their faith according the 11the Article of Faith

11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

You need to scroll up Working VIDEO? it was working before????

VIDEO GO MITT, GOD BLESS YOU!:)

Jan Mickelson was the one being deceptive because he knew the what he did was not Kosher, he should apologize to Mitt, and Mitt came through a forthright gentleman!

The candidate reveals a private side that is at turns cutting, combative and sarcastic, but most of all agitated at being forced to defend what he and his church stand for.

Good. I like him even more.

“Why would one be agitated to comment on what his church stands for?”

That wasn’t what happened. He was ticked off that some radio host set himself up as being more of an expert on Mitt’s faith than Mitt (who has held some significant leadership positions) then accuses Romney of not living his faith to the point where he should be excommunicated based on his weak understanding of Mormonism.

Watch the whole video, Romney acted appropriately and made his point quite well. I don’t want some wimp POTUS who can’t stand up to others and I don’t want a POTUS who thinks that everything his own religion is opposed to should be made a criminal offense.

I hope Mitt gets the nomination and is elected POTUS just to tick off all the anti-Mormon bigots.

It would be fun to see their collective heads explode when Mitt puts his hand on a ‘quad’ (The KJV Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price, in other words the full set of LDS scripture) to take the oath of office.

Another cheap shot at Mitt eh? He looked pretty good, even to the Romney camp on this one. Nice try but Mitt will continue to do well.

"But Mickelson kept at it when the program went to break."

Why would one be agitated to comment on what his church stands for? It's part of the deal running for POTUS.

That because the things they do in their Temples have NO basis that can be found in their scriptures.

Because there’s so much misinformation and ignorance running rampant out there when it comes to the LDS Church. (Duh.)

Wow! I watched the entire video and I have never been more proud of Mitt Romney. He made mincemeat out of that radio talk show guy. Mincemeat. It was creepy that they videotaped Mitt without his knowledge but the outcome is definitely PRO MITT.

Fabulous. Thanks for posting it even though your intention was apparently to put Mitt down. I suppose you think not too many people will actually take the time to watch the video.

Any fair minded person who watches the video in its entirety will see that Mitt Romney handled himself spectacularly. I am so proud.

Go, Mitt!!!

I testify that The Church of Jesus Christ is the restored Church of Jesus Christ through the Lord prophet Joseph Smith.

THE ARTICLES OF FAITH
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
History of the Church, Vol. 4, pp. 535—541

1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.

3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
Joseph Smith

Mickelson is a deceiver, Number One. My husband and I just watched the video together. He had not seen it. The radio guy was wrong and obnoxious and rude.

Furthermore, to those who actually take the time to watch the video in its entirety, the best Mitt line is to point out that a President Hillary Clinton would reek havoc on the U.S. if she were able to decide which U.S. Supreme Court decisions she would abide by and which ones she would throw out.

I like seeing Mitt Romney this way. He was all fired up. My kind of guy. He has the fire in the belly we need. The radio guy owes Mitt Romney an apology - especially since the radio was deceptive in taping Mitt and then airing it. But Mitt comes out on top, the bigger man, the better man.

Go, Mitt Romney!!
