The Rise Of Jeri Thompson: Ex-Senator's Wife Is Helping to Shape His Probable Bid
The Washington Post ^ | August 5, 2007 | Alec MacGillis and John Solomon

Posted on 08/05/2007 12:42:13 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

On a hot Saturday in June 2002, Fred D. Thompson married his second wife, Jeri Kehn, in an unventilated Congregational church in her home town of Naperville, Ill. Kehn, in a Valentino gown, was a 35-year-old media consultant for a Washington law firm; Thompson, a 59-year-old U.S. senator from Tennessee.

"I think he will be a calming influence, and she will be good for him," Kehn's mother, Vicki Keller, said at the time.

It was a triumphal return for Kehn, who had left Naperville for college and spent much of her 20s biding her time in Nashville without a clear career path, living with a boyfriend whose main claim to fame was getting arrested in Red Square for unfurling a pizza-parlor banner in the last days of the Cold War. Kehn left three court judgments behind her in Nashville, one of which remains unpaid today, and a court twice garnished her wages.

But after meeting Fred Thompson, Kehn began establishing herself in Washington Republican circles, and marriage more than consolidated her place in the city. Today, Jeri Thompson, 40, has emerged as a driving and at times divisive force within the presidential campaign her husband is preparing to launch, one that could make her the nation's youngest first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy.

In the nascent Thompson campaign -- anticipated with high hopes by many conservatives unsatisfied with the current crop of GOP candidates -- Jeri Thompson plays a role arguably as influential as those of two better-known spouses of Democratic candidates, Bill Clinton and Elizabeth Edwards. She helps shape her husband's conservative message and image, has been a strong voice urging him to run and recently helped instigate a shake-up that pushed aside Thompson's first campaign manager and his research director.

Let's see: "Trophy wife" and "controlling, scheming bitch" didn't work, so now they're working on painting Mrs. Thompson as a "deadbeat and social climber", or am I misreading this? Notice that this is on the FRONT PAGE of the SUNDAY Washington Post? Are the dems/MSM really this frantic already? If they fear Fred at this stage of the game (i.e., an undeclared candidate with "only" $3.5 million), what will they do or say once he declares his candidacy? Hillary knows this is probably her only shot at the White House...

I really don't know what to say about this...

So a former politico is running a politician's Presidential campaign?

I am sure that that has never happened before.

Compare Jeri’s class with that disgusting, social climbing, coal cracker whore that is married to Rudy sometime. Fred is a lucky man, IMHO.

I need to know more about Mr Thompson, so he's not out, but I'm not voting for any man based upon his wife's influence, from any party. I will vote for one based upon his wife's lack of influence. I have seen too many wives of supposedly "conservative" men influence them away from conservative stances on an issue. Women tend to be less conservative, generally speaking, and on matters that are important to me. I'm a woman, and I know whereof I speak. I need to know more.

What hypocrisy by the Washington Compost!

Wow - Thompson's wife had a boyfriend, and probably had sex before marriage!

That is the dark, detestable, awful sin they cast upon her in the opening of this hit piece.

In 1991 - the Washington Compost went AFTER anyone who even REMOTELY pointed out Hillary Rob'em Clinton's suitcase history of unbelievable lawbreaking, intimidation, malfeasance, and illegal acts.

They set the tone quickly: Fred and Jeri married in an “unventilated” church. You KNOW you’re reading a hit piece.
Then the linked site has pdf’s for her car accident and a medical bill; somebody’s really digging desperately.
Conclusion: They fear the Fred. :)

I hope that isn't an accurate description of Rudy's wife. If so, that description fits enough folks that Rudy should have this election in the bag.

Comment:

As I have said before there is no limit on how low the WAPO will go to mar a candidate and his spouse.

The muckdiving of the WAPO seems to fit their Democrat biased sewer mentality very well.

The liberal media has no ethical rules and it really permeates throughout the entire country.

One person directly familiar with the campaign ....

Biggest load of huey I've read in the mainstream anti-Republican press since .... yesterday.

Seriously, I'M "directly familiar with the campaign" for heavens sake.

Find me ONE, just one credible source, one FACT which validates this "wife running the Thompson campaign" baloney.

There are none. This is all innuendo, antedoctal claptrap from a slanted reporter who is trying to smear a GOP candidate ahead of his likely announcement for Prez.

The absolutely silver lining to this hitpiece on Jeri is that it opens up Hillary’s sordid affairs to scrutiny.

Well, you could tell it was going to be a “hit piece” when they referred to Fred Thompson as an “ex-senator” instead of “former” or Senator turned actor...

Are you insinuating that all prospective first ladies (cough) didn't pick up (stalk is more like it) their husbands in swanky NYC Cigar Bars while the guy was married to someone else and then carry on an illicit affair in the backseat of a Limo?

The lack of interest in digging into the past lives of the wives of Obama, Dodd, Biden, Richardson, etc is glaring. The hypocrisy notwithstanding, Jeri should clear up any outstanding obligations. It’s just the right thing to do.

Did you ever see an article implying a Dem was a deadbeat because she paid some medical bills late?

No, if she was a Dem, they would spin it into a demand for socialized medicine.

It's interesting how these same types of criticisms were leveled against Nancy Reagan, but when hillary told us we were getting "two for the price of one" and that she would be a "co-president" in 1992 and 1993, the press never raised an eyebrow.

Well for one thing I think Fred is making a calculated risk on waiting to get into the race.

Personally the excitement of being new is wearing off quickly the longer he waits.

I am a Duncan Hunter supporter but would be willing to also support Fred if he got in but it’s hard to defend anyone not in the game from low blows.

Right now he is lurker and as such his supposed base of voters can only holler and not much else.

Fred, take this ole Red Neck Okies advice and throw your hat in the ring before it’s to late.
