GOOSE CREEK, S.C. --Two men were detained after police found and detonated a suspicious item found in their car during a routine stop for a speeding violation on a highway near Charleston, Berkeley County sheriff's Lt. Vince Lombard said Sunday morning.
Lombard said the men were being held pending a charge of unlawful possession of an explosive device, but he would not say what the device was or what bomb technicians from neighboring Charleston County exploded about 2:45 a.m. Sunday.
The item made a loud bang, similar to a firecracker, when it was demolished.
Authorities closed the road about 7 p.m. and federal officials later said there was "no immediate threat."
The car was heading west on U.S. Highway 176, away from Goose Creek and the Naval Weapons Station there, Lombard said. The facility also houses the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig, a military prison where enemy combatants have been held. The traffic stop took place about 7 miles from the sprawling Navy facility.
A mile-long stretch of U.S. Highway 176 was reopened about 4 a.m. Sunday.
A reporter with WCBD-TV said she saw a robot remove something from the trunk of the car earlier in the evening, but that the item was not immediately moved from the scene.
South Carolina law enforcement Chief Robert Stewart told The Associated Press that his officers were on the scene, but that the FBI was handling the case and he did not elaborate.
Goose Creek, with a population of about 30,000, is located about 20 miles north of Charleston.
No names.
No nationalities.
yesteday’s article said “middle eastern” men IIRC
Not those pesky Amish extremists again?
PING ~!
Another lie by ommission?
I noticed that too. Hmmmm.
What were they stopped for originally?
Tan van vs grey sedan.
Baggie vs Duffle bag.
small explosives vs large explosives.
They're just guessing obviously.
Article this morning mentioned this being an offshoot of another investigation but didn’t elaborate any more than that.
“The item made a loud bang, similar to a firecracker, when it was demolished.”
What a joke...It was maybe a box with a firecracker in it?
hmmm....
Looks like it’s going down the ol’ memory hole.
Speeding, I believe.
Lets see, small shaped charges with an intensity to produce cracks at stress points on bridges, but otherwise might not make really loud ‘booms”.
Yeah I know...nothing to see here, move a long (ad nauseum)....
“The item made a loud bang, similar to a firecracker, when it was demolished.”
Wow, they are coming after firecrackers now?
In two days, it will be: “What suspicious items? What arrest?”
According to Lt. Vince Lombardo, deputies discovered the suspicious items in the trunk during a traffic stop. The two men inside the vehicle are detained at the scene. Lombardo also said information from an investigation in another jurisdiction raised the suspicions of the deputies.
There were one or two other references to this but they were all worded the same so I figured it was all fromt he same source.
Not much to go on huh? :)
lol. You have to be an industrial strength duma$$ to go back to the van rental agency to request the deposit back from the van you just blew up under the WTC in 1993 as well.
These people may be thuggish, cowardly and vicious, but they're not real bright ;)
Thank You for the information. I had not seen anything. I appreciate your efforts. I might add a vague update, and I know that is not your fault. It would help if more information was released or perhaps more information has been release and it was only to intelligence gatherers and LEO.
Thanks, I hadn’t heard that
Pete and Larry or...... Akmed and Muhammed. I wonder which might be closer...........
South Carolina has firework stands on just about every corner
Noticed that. If it were white men, that information would have already been released, along with their names. Last night on the clip, the reporters were saying "the buzz is that they're Middle Eastern men...not white, not black," but the police wouldn't confirm anything about the detained.
If the perps are members of the death cult, the media will suppress all mention of it, so that we think that the biggest threat is from Christians.
To you and others deriding LEO’s, note the article says that close by is the Navy brig and Weapons Station.
We should be praising the tight security outside the base when there are strong rumors about.

Could have been a box full of cookies ... the loud bang was the device authorities used to make them into crumbs?
Once again more lazy reporting as it’s no where near the Navy brig and Weapons Station. It’s sort of the same road but where they were caught was on the other side of the city from the Navy facilities, closer to Summerville than it was to there.
No, names, no nationalities, heading south to a city that is full of bridges...
Not US citizens and students at Florida University so says CNN.

Goose Creek - Berkeley County police pulled over a light colored van in a routine traffic stop near Meyers Road and Highway 1-76 around 6 p.m. The van with Florida tags was driven by two men of Middle Eastern descent. Inside the vehicle police found explosives. Two men were arrested, and charges of possession of unlawful explosives are being prepared. Officials are not at this time releasing any additional information on the number of charges or types of explosive devices they found.

Florida, particularly its university system, is stuffed with Islamics.
I have always thought that the next attack is going to be either Charleston or Jacksonville. Glad somebody else with more authority seems to be thinking in the same direction and watching the muzzie rat lines.
Blue Water Bridge, Windsor Detroit Tunnel, Ambassador Bridge are prime targets, considering Dearborn is 20 minutes away. Any of these are prime since you would disrupt commerce from two countries.
I think bridges would be a disruption, but both Charleston and JAX have big military installations and a successful attack on either of them could be a more serious problem.
Charleston, of course, also has a military brig where some of this slime is twiddling its thumbs and waiting to be sprung. Not going to happen, IMHO, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to try.
What is interesting is that they were heading out of Charleston according to one source. My first thought was that they were heading into Charleston because being from Florida (one would assume with FL tags) they traveled up I95 and got off US 176 which is a back way into Charleston. I know this because we us to live about a mile up from where this occurred off of US 176. We would head up 176 to get on I95 instead of I26 because it was closer. Also, living outside of Goose Creek for a number of years, my husband was well acquainted with the Goose Creek police, being stopped several times in the town for speeding. It is known for speed traps, and the area these fellows were stopped is close to the city limits. So, I still wonder which way they were heading, my thoughts are they were going into GooseCreek from I95, on their way to Charleston.
It was just some ‘fishing supplies’ picked up at the state line fireworks store.

Two Bush Bumper Sticker Slogans Arrested in S.C.

Actually, Mr. Edwards, we cant see if the arresting officers have a bumper sticker or not, but nonetheless there was a bust in South Carolina yesterday:
((Reference to John Edwards’ idiocy: The WOT is a bumper sticker))
The FBI is saying there is no immediate threat after police in Goose Creek discovered what they believed were explosives during a traffic stop
Sources tell Live 5 News that police stopped a four-door sedan during a routine traffic stop and found what they believe was a bomb inside the vehicle
Sources also say that there were two people in the car and that they were apparently of Middle Eastern decent.
Forbes has another interesting tidbit:

Law enforcement officials closed the road about 7 p.m. after the traffic stop in Goose Creek, home to the Naval Weapons Station. The station houses the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig, a military prison where enemy combatants have been held.
My God, do you realize what this means?
South Carolina police are profiling!
CAIR is no doubt en route as we speak.
Thanks for the ping STARWISE.

OPINION:
Edwards (http://truthusa.com/a/index.php?PHPSESSID=918dce7df409827cc48ea3b883e26836&topic=279.0 ) like most of the democrats (http://truthusa.com/a/index.php?PHPSESSID=79e78c6a14b918a84cf223e79e8ca08b&topic=144.0 ) are totally clueless (willfully so), regarding terrorism, terrorists, and the war on terror.
Actually they have enough fireworks for sale Legally to blow up damn near the whole middle east.
Whatever happened was out of the ordinary and someone is minimizing it.
Local report out of Columbia just now said the two men are in jail for possessing an explosive device.
Agreed, you can buy some cool stuff here. This must have been something way more potent. National wires are minimizing it.

It’s all around us. While my brother has been off fighting them overseas, a suspicious looking Middle Eastern man and daughter moved in next door to him. He heard about them from the neighbors... There are other MEs who live there and are fine - the neighbors can perfectly well recognize who is “ok” and who is questionable. So now I have to worry about all of them.
TANKS for the ping,,,I still have not heard what this stuff in the trunk was...
Homeland Security....doing the job other countries refuse to do!
All I read earlier, on a thread (I think a different one) was that whatever it was popped like fireworks when it was detonated.
I don’t think anything was said about the contents.
Interesting....I suppose they know but they’re not saying.
