Sept. 5 is the Fred Thompson announcement date, according to Tim Russert on Meet the Press right now.
What the he!! does Mr. Potato Head know.
WARNING: If you wish to join this list, be aware that this ping list is EXTREMELY active.
If true, sounds good to me, two days after Labor Day. “Normal” people will start to pay attention about then as the kids get back to school and summer is over.
Sure, I believe that Fred’s campaign is leaking to Russert.
We all know Newt ain’t a gonna run, but he could help the cause if Fred is deserving of it.
Remember. We have lost the good offices of the President in this election.
For good or for bad, Bush cannot help us much, and that is usually not good for the incumbent party at the White House.
We need every single thing that we can get to run against the Clintons and the MSM.
Ask Al Gore if his old pal slick Willie helped him any.
The St. Pete debate is the Youtube one that a lot of candidates are backing out of.
I wish these minor candidates like, Tancredo, Hunter, Huckabee and T.Thompson would drop out already. They are fine men, but the only candidates I want to see up there debating, are Giuliani, Romney and Thompson.
Some of the others would be good candiates for VP, although my personal preference, right now is Romney/F. Thompson or F.Thompson/Romney.
So it is.. I’d forgotten that. Maybe he ought to skip that one anyway, then, even if it is in Florida. While it may go against his trend of internet campaigning, skipping a Youtube event would actually be an internet-savvy move for a conservative.
Well, if he announces on that day, then I assume that it means that he will not be in the Texas straw poll on the 1st. I don’t know how significant that straw poll would be. Seems to me it would let him know how he stands with conservatives in Texas.
hmmmm... like Yogi Berra:
“I’ll bleevit when I Bleevit”
I don't agree. McCain should drop out because he is headed no where and has nothing to offer the party or the ticket. Many of the others (even if not strong players) have something to add. Defining the ticket and the party is part of the primary process.
Having an early pick is good, IF the party is strong and solidly behind them. However, sacrificing a defining primary debate in order to get an early pick is bad for the party.
Why do you want them to drop out before Thompson gets in?
“Ask Al Gore if his old pal slick Willie helped him any.”
I thought that Gore kept Clinton at arm’s length — because of Monica, etc.
Tonight’s Iowa Debate will be broadcast on C-SPAN @ 5:30 p.m. CDT. (6:30 Eastern Time)
I agree the bottom feeders like Tancredo, Hunter, Paul, Huckabee and T. Thompson are distracting from the messages of those who can win. They are hogging air time that the real contenders need. A couple of them would make great VP candidates (Hunter, Huckabee) but they are pulling the party down like millstones right now.
Thank You! I was wondering when they were going to re-broadcast that!
McCain does need to drop out. Is he getting more money for staying in longer - beyond any hopeful campaign?
Thanks for the GOP Debate Calendar. Not that I’m a political junkie, but, I printed it out.
Something like “If you don’t have 10% — You don’t get to play..”
You forgot to mention the surrender monkey ron paul who is a disgrace even unto the republicans. The party needs to purge his coward asss out of it.
Don’t be so quick to wish. He’ll take a bunch of Constitution-loving conservative with him, and then y’all will bitch about being stuck with Hillary.
Far better to court us and show us why your candidate is worth voting for.
It’s not like your margin is large enough to do without us.
He's actually not hurting anything......and he's a strong voice for victory in Iraq wherever he goes. This will help Fred.
The anti-war candidate plus those who aren't the slightest factor now or later should do the dropping out.
Let not impatience be the armchair strategery.
Bump! Go Fred Go!
"WAAA! HE'S NOT GOING TO RAISE ENOUGH FOR THE PRIMARIES NOW! HIS WIFE IS RUNNING THE CAMPAIGN WAAA!"
Skip it man, you know as well as I do...
Mark my words, Ron Paul will be the next President!
(of the board of better bunkers and compounds magazine)
I think he has to stay in for his matching funds. Not certain though.
The Immigration issue is Bush’s Monica, in that sense.
Fred doesn’t need to pander to so called swing voters or closet liberals.
That how McCain has largely become history.
And Bush’s actions - alienating the conservative base - on immigration doesn’t help any GOP candidates running in 08 that I am aware of.
Strange. I can’t find any news about this other than here. Wonder if it’s true?
These candidates (except for Huckabee) are not "bottom-feeders." All of them are more conservative than both Giuliani & Romney.
Nice that you want to exclude the real conservatives but a pro-abortion, pro-gun control Mayor should be included.
But the guy who supports killing unborn babies is OK.
Is this a DU thread?
And I, Mr. Sandbox, will also announce on that date.
That's understandable. You sure don't want to see Duncan Hunter one on one with Giuiani, Romney or Thompson, do you? Couldn't have that kind of open debate. Don't want any "fine men' facing these Rino's. No Siree.
FredT is running on his schedule.
Tim Russert, have another donut.
GO FRed GO!
Look again - I posted that Hunter, and Huckabee would be nice VP candidates!
You are just soooooo in love (brainwashed) with RP that it clouds anything you write on these forums.
>...the only candidates I want to see up there debating are Giuliani, Romney and Thompson.<
Those are the candidates farthest down on my list. On second thought, I would really like to see Hunter debate Thompson.
I wish he wouldn’t bother. I like his acting, but as a Senator he was nothing to write home about. John Glenn made him look like an eunuch.
Ron Paul is better than Rudy McRomney by a long shot, even though I don’t agree with his stance on foreign policy.
Yes, by all means, Duncan Hunter, a genuine conservative, must be drop out before Thompson enters. The GOP must not allow Hunter to debate Giuliani, Romney and Thompson. We can’t have this conservative debating the GOP’s RINO’s.
I would suggest they are not pulling anything down. I can however, understand, why Guiliani, Romney and Thompson would not want to debate conservatives. I don’t, can’t and won’t ever describe an articulate conservative voice as hogging air time. I think you could perhaps make a case for “hogging” airtime and resources in unrolling an old actor and mediocre Former Senator out of mothballs, who has not yet officially announced, who has no vision and no new ideas as I have heard. Perhaps even for Guiliani who is as much liberal as conservative or Romney who comes off as some caricature of what he thinks a conservative should be, all the while, extolling his new-found conservative principles.
I find your use of “real contenders” and “bottom-feeders” an affront to some very fine men and proven conservatives. No one is distracting these so-called “real contenders” from their messages. I mean, wouldn’t they actually need a message for that to be the case? If you want your candidates spoon-fed to you by the media and want to use meaningless polls as your guide, that is your right. I have a different method, I compare, contrast and choose the best. The best is what we are going to need in the coming years and I had much rather choose the best now rather than wish for the best, later.
Duncan Hunter supporter here. New to this blogging scene. Put me on your ping list.
I agree with this. I'm a libertarian conservative, and I'm for Thompson because of his record on limited government, fiscal conservatism, federalism and national security. However, I believe Dr. Paul deserves respect -- I think he's misguided about some aspects of national defense, but he's been a fantastic and all-too-rare defender of the Constitution for many years.
I think there's a lot for libertarian conservatives to like about Thompson. If Dr. Paul drops out of the race or if Thompson wins the nomination, and I hope you'll consider him. However, if you don't I'm not about to trash you -- I've voted third-party myself when I believe the situation demands it.
They are not getting much ink, anyway.
A little scared of the day light there bud?
It is rare when I think ill of a Newbie, because fresh blood brings life to the debate, but in your case I am willing to make an exception.
You want to play pal, go for it, I’m game, but man (or woman or whatever) up and play out in the open, not send out some BS email to people like a cockroach scurrying in the dark...
By the way, I brought some of my friends along for you to meet, I know they’d want to meet you.
Maybe you can get come new address to mail your crap out to.
Dont forget about SC Governor Mark Sanford
He would be the very best IMHO.
I got that email you’re talking about. As I informed the sender, there better not be any more of it. If he doesn’t want it posted for everyone’s viewing pleasure, he better not send it to me.
