The two Middle East-born men held in Berkeley County after explosive devices were found in their car have been charged with one count a piece of possession of an incendiary device. Police denied that the two were pulled over because they were of Arabian decent, stating that they acted suspiciously when pulled over for speeding on Hwy. 176 in Goose Creek.
Both now living in Tampa, Fla., Yousef Samir Megahed, 21, originally from Egypt, and Ahmed Abda Sherf Mohamed, 24, originally from Kuwait, were going at least 15 miles over the posted speed limit when pulled over, according to the Sheriffs Office. When approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed the men closing a laptop computer and stowing it on the backseat. Responses to questions about where the men were going and where they were coming from were erratic, leading the officer to ask if he could search the vehicle.
The men stated they had fireworks in the trunk and that sent off red flags. Officials did not have further details about the explosives in the car, but noted that they looked homemade. Lab tests on the are expected to be completed later today. The FBI has taken over the investigation.

Add me to the list. / Remove me from the list.
Move along, nothing to see here.....
Amazing how fast the race card is played nowadays...
don’t get these 2 guys, and the people who made that homemade sub the other day together.

There. Fixed it...
“BOOK’EM Dano.......”
It would be interesting to do forensic analysis on that notebook to see if something has been recently deleted/eradicated. Hopefully it is on it’s way to the NSA even as we speak.
I wonder what their immigration status is.
But did they have a “War on Terror” bumper sticker?
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
SO, basically, they shut down a mile of Rt 176 in both directions for 9 hours for firecrackers.
Fireworks? LOL Those are kinda, sorta, big fireworks!
The younger one is a permanent legal resident and his family also lives in the Tampa area. I believe the older one is here on a student visa.
.....that's good with me.....
.....they can say anything they want in public......
.....as long as they are doing what needs to be done.....
.....behind my back.....
I see theyre getting Latino Marijuana farms growing big time in SC. These are Cartel farms, growing on public forests and parks and in the article I think it mentions they found one on someones private land.
S.C. authorities make pot bust worth $37M
CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. State and local authorities found the largest plot of marijuana ever discovered in Chester County on Monday afternoon, Sheriff Robby Benson said.
More than 15,000 plants, with an estimated street value of more than $37 million, were found just before noon when a State Law Enforcement Division helicopter performed a routine aerial check of the county, Benson said. [snip]

Awesome they caught them. Expect the American Commie Lawyers Union to defend their “rights” that somehow got violated.
Standby, HSA will probably say they were just flares.
Young arab males from middle eastern countries, with homemade fireworks? I know this looks quite innocent on the surface, but their just might be something else going on here. Worth looking into. Just my opinion. (big sheesh sarcasm tag)

That’s because it works.
One is here on a student visa and the other one is a legal permanent resident. Let’s just assume for a minute that they were innocent students. How stupid would two Muslims have to be to drive around with bomb-making materials in the trunk of their car? They have both been studying at USF for years, the younger guy, who is taking three credit hours, hasn’t even declared a major. How do you get a student visa without declaring what you are going to study?
I foresee much shrieking and teeth gnashing from the ACLU about alleged profiling. The ACLU is ever on the job, slapping down good cops with good instincts who put themselves at risk for our safety.
That is always a mistake.
So this is what the “official” story is going to be...
Well aren’t we just the stupid lot of bigoted anti-arab right-wing haters!!!
I just can’t get over how all of this started...And how it ended...
I guess we can all “feel” safe, and that in no way will anything ever again will be classified as related to “terrorism”.../sarcasm
Until it actually is...
But we will be told that we need to be “vigilant”, not vigilantes...”Observant” but not oppressive...
Geesh...
Somehow I believe we are one lit fuse away from another really bad day in this country...And all these “probes” are building up for a discovery of some weal point or easy exploitable soft-target...
I mean you’d think that if the government would trust us enough with knowing how manytimes we are being probed, that all of these calls for vigilance and being observant would be taken seriously...
I believe we are a very strong nation, its just some people think we are too sensitive to know that there are real, tangible enemies that are out there to destroy us...
Our weakness is in the fact that we have people in high places that don’t believe we (the people) are strong enough to be serious about securing our country and protecting it...
And those same people are treating us like we are players in some game...
This is not a game!
Mighty big if....
Has the FBI come out ans said that this incident is not terrorism-related?
Is there a visa requirement that the person on the student visa must show adequate progress towards completion of a degree? Or is it just that the person must be enrolled in a college course.
I have a feeling it’s the latter and these two did the minimum to avoid coming up on anyone’s radar.
Could this have been another test? Checking the response by the authorities, playing the race card, etc.
228 word article. Not one mention of the “M” word.
CAIR already had a news conference. They refer to these guys as "two victims".
yitbos
God bless the SC Sheriff and his men. They were performing due diligence, and may have prevented another crazy Arab attack on a US city or military facility. Let CAIR whine and moan. These two muzzies were up to no good!
In Massachusetts the charge would have been having an “infernal machine”. No kidding.
No, “Two Americas - Edwards 2008”
More info coming out as the day progresses. Good points 3AngelaD, some other freepers have been asking the same questions.
These kids are college students from Florida who got pulled over for speeding 15 MPH over the limit.
The profiling didn’t start until after they got pulled over.
The profiling continued once this story was posted here on FR :)
Deport First. Ask Questions Later.
We’ve had a number of attacks since 9-11 but they’ve all been shrugged off as the work of “lone nuts”. Then again some have tried to claim the same about the actions of the 9-11 hijackers.
USF is ours here in FLA. Sorry.
It's infected with muzzies - that 'Sami' guy who finally got convicted of terrorist planning was a prof there.
It appears that they're allowed to operate just so we can see who comes-and-goes ................... FRegards
The article I read listed the hours they took during summer session. A student during summer session might take anywhere from 1-3 classes (3-9 hours)...but they will not usually allow one to take more than that during the summer because the course length is shortened, and the material is more concentrated.
Also the one student is a graduate student. Full time for a grad student is 9 hours...so 6 in a summer session would probably be a full load.
Amazing how fast the race card is played nowadays...
We should start a pool everytime something like this happens. Take bets on what occurs first:
1. The race/profiling card being played -or-
2. The feds saying “not terrorism related”
The over/under on both would have to be about 6 hours.
Having gone through grad school in engineering, I met a great many students from the Middle East. They are just like young adults from the US in that they are interested in things like fireworks, weapons, and such things. Many are also spoiled rich kids who don't have a solid grasp on the fact that they really can get in serious trouble for breaking our laws, even if they don't have malicious intent.
It sounds like their actions definitely demand a serious investigation by the FBI, and I have little doubt that they will be throughly investigated.
I hope they get prosecuted according to their crimes, but it doesn't appear that enough information has been released yet to know what they were doing.
bump
Never mind deport. Drag them down to Gitmo and do a little torture first to find out who they’re working for and what their orders are! This is what would have been done during WWII to any aliens riding around with a bomb in their car.
LOL--I'm hoping they're Persians, and will take offense!
