In the rotten boroughs of New England, the wealthy recognize the fact that it is now easier to generate "wealth" through legislation than by operating a business subject to the whims of a free people.

One more signal of the terminal decline of our sometime republic.

Greenwich,CT

I lived in Greenwich, on the OTHER side of the tracks, for 4 years. It's the kind of town that will call the police if a black person is seen crossing the street.

The very wealthy are liberal. Think George Soros, Warren Buffett and Steve Jobs. Today its a safe bet any one with lots of money is likely to vote Democrat. In the old days, the reverse was true.

There isn’t a shortage of hyper-liberals among rich elistists especially in New England.

Wasn’t it Jimmy Carter who, on the night he was elected, stood on the stage and laughed at those who voted for him, saying “They have no idea we’re about to tax the **** out of them.” ??? I suspect that line will be quoted yet again.

I've always thought that the natural constituency of the Republican party is the middle class, people like my parents who grew up during the Depression, served in the war, worked hard all their lives to build a future for their children, played by the rules and lived honest, moral lives. These are the bedrock of our society, providing the social and political stability necessary for a growing economy and a viable representative democracy. They instilled these values in their progeny and we neither seek handouts nor expect something for nothing.

That said, it puzzles me to no end why a party whose natural constituency is this demographic would implement policies (globalist economics, open borders, expanded government) that are harmful to it. One can't undercut the well-being of one's supporters and expect their continued support. That only sows the seeds of discontent and eventual revolution.

A liberal immediate family member told me once “Even you” referring to me “don’t have the money to be a Republican”.

Frankly I don’t have the money to be a Democrat either. Between tax increases out the wahzoo and this Private Jet Progressive crowd demonstrated here.

There is a guilt complex abouot making it rich in this country which is silly and wrong. But IF you inherited your riches, you have no firckin’ clue how to make money. Teddy, has no idea how to earn an honest dollar. For that matter neither do Bill Clinton or Jesse Jackson, although they didn’t inherit their money. John Kerry doesn’t have a clue either. People who know how to make money shouldn’t feel guilty about it. They are helping others by providing jobs and opportunites and economic growth. Those who only know how to take from others and give to the needy are of questionable value to our way of life.

Many of the very wealthy feel guilty about it. They assuage their guilt by giving to the poor.

But you don’t get rich by giving money away...so they assuage their guilt by voting democrat, and giving OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY to the poor.

I have to remind democrats who say republicans are the party of the rich.. that actually most of the super rich are Democrats.

Also when Democrats are in power the stock market tends to rocket up. A company with a guarunteed government contract with set profit margin is much more profitable then a company fighting to the death with other companies on a free market.

If the unions demand more wages our regulated monopoly company simply increases the price to reflect the increased costs, + adds some more profit.

Limosine liberals.

This is orwellian reporting.

The MSM is telling us our 20 gram ration of chocholate will be increased to 20 grams. (not a typo)

This is just like the stock homless lady which the MSM, provided by the DNC, used in 2002 AND 2004 despite not being homless.

The MSM is trying to create the perception of momentum for the ILLUSION of persuation for the weak minded.

The article proves one well known fact: the ability to make money does not impart wisdom in other areas of life, especially politics.

I think a lot of this has to do with the preception that the Republican Party is the party of the religious right, and well-off sophisticates or pseudo-sophisticates do NOT want to be associated with the Rapture crowd.

Also, the wealthy tend to be pro-abortion, which is another strike against a Republican Party associated with religious conservatives.

There are a lot of people who have a very exaggerated fear of the religious right, overestimiating its power and exaggerating its goals. Some people actually believe the religious right wants to force non-believers to convert to Christianity, or to somehow make membership in a Christian church mandatory for all Americans.

I think this just helps prove the theory that one doesn’t have to be a deep thinker to make a good living.

Funny, I thought sensible moderates ,like Jodi Rell, were going to turn affluent suburbs into being solid Red territory.

I know that Greenwich has seen a sizeable influx of Jews (typically Democratic) and nouveau riche cafeteria Catholics, so I am not surprised.

Darien and New Canaan, however, remain heavily Republican.

The biggest shift I have seen has been in Nassau and Suffolk County New York, which used to vote RINO in local elections and GOP of all stripes by overwhelming numbers though the 1980s, to say nothing of Montgomery and Delaware counties outside of Philadelphia. Now, with the "greening" of the haute bourgeoisie, we should not be surprised that these are now Dem areas.

New Jersey is a bit more complex. The "new wealthy" communities in Morris, Somerset, and Hunterdon Counties still vote Republican, while the older high-income suburbs (Tenafly, Millburn, Upper Montclair, etc.) vote Democratic. The blue collar areas also tend to vote Democratic, although you have swing areas like Toms River and Hamilton where alot of law enforcement live.

I don’t know about elsewhere but many of the Greenwich rich are now Jews who are historically liberal.
