Terrorists teaming with drug cartels
The Washington Times ^ | Aug 8, 2007 | By Sara A. Carter

Posted on 08/08/2007 6:28:06 AM PDT by Ooh-Ah

Islamic extremists embedded in the United States — posing as Hispanic nationals — are partnering with violent Mexican drug gangs to finance terror networks in the Middle East, according to a Drug Enforcement Administration report.

"Since drug traffickers and terrorists operate in a clandestine environment, both groups utilize similar methodologies to function ... all lend themselves to facilitation and are among the essential elements that may contribute to the successful conclusion of a catastrophic event by terrorists," said the confidential report, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times.

The 2005 report outlines an ongoing scheme in which multiple Middle Eastern drug-trafficking and terrorist cells operating in the U.S. fund terror networks overseas, aided by established Mexican cartels with highly sophisticated trafficking routes.

These terrorist groups, or sleeper cells, include people who speak Arabic, Spanish and Hebrew and, for the most part, arouse no suspicion in their communities.

"It is very likely that any future 'September 11th' type of terrorist event in the United States may be facilitated, wittingly or unwittingly, by drug traffickers operating on both sides of the United States-Mexico border," the DEA report says.

...

"Hearings I held in Laredo [Texas] last year and this DEA report show that our southern border is a terrorist risk," Mr. Royce said. "Law enforcement has warned that people from Arab countries have crossed the border and adopted Hispanic surnames. The drug cartels have highly sophisticated smuggling and money-laundering networks, which terrorists could access."

...

"Al Qaeda has been trying to smuggle terrorists and terrorist weapons illegally into the United States," the 2006 document states. "This organization has also tried to enter the U.S. by taking advantage of its most vulnerable border areas. The seek to smuggle OTMs [other than Mexicans] from Middle Eastern countries into the U.S."

Do the cartels REALLY want to become WoT targets?

Let’s be frank here: Enforcement against drugs is mostly a showboat exercise. Both law enforcement and the drug gangs profit amazingly well from the existence and continued flow of drugs. Drug traffickers are, for the most part, tolerated and concealed by bought officials on both sides of the border.

Put some terror on that, and the landscape would change — a lot.

Pienso que las cuadrillas no desean eso.

The borders should have been sealed earlier but as of 9/12/01 there is no excuse. Muslims and illegals are the greatest dangers to this country and it’s future. Not reacting to the combination of the two is suicidal, or homocidal if your sitting protected in DC while this is occuring.

The first offender in this area remains the US government, in its war on users of unpatented drugs.

The reaction against this results in profits for gangs and Islamic terrorists.

my daughter lives outside Tuscon.....a couple years ago my wife and I visited her for the first time and thought it would be fun to take a desert hike....I couldn’t believe the trash in the desert left by the illegals....empty gallon milk bottles, diapers, articles of clothing, busted sunglasses, hats....you name it....lately though, Islamic prayer rugs have been found close to the border....a bad sign for our security.

remember the origional James Bond movies?.....the ones with Sean Connery?.....the films all had one classic scene where the heads of major crime/terrorist/drug syndicates would gather around the conference table to plot....back in the 60s that seemed improbable to me.....now I think that Ian Fleming was right....forces of evil ARE working against us on a global basis where ever their interests coincide....I’m in full favor of assination squads to handle these people.

Mike Cutler has a nice response to this article:

This article is critical for a number of significant reasons. First of all, it shows that the porous borders of the United States represent a threat to our security as a means of entry into the United States for drugs that fund terrorism as well as for terrorists themselves. My friend Rachel Ehrenfeld wrote a book, not long ago entitled, “Funding Evil.” She coined the term “Narco-Terrorists.” Terrorism requires money in order for the terrorists to carry out their malevolent objectives. This is no different from any other enterprise. Without money a terrorist can no more launch an attack than could an entrepreneur establish a business. Money is the necessary component of any undertaking. The politicians who are so eager to dismantle our borders in the name of free trade and corporate profit are hammering our nation and our citizens in many ways.

The sale of narcotics funds criminal and terrorist organizations. Narcotics is a violent business in which it is common for rival drug gangs to engage in shootouts with their competitors. It is also common for the drug traffickers to kill anyone they believe may have informed on them to law enforcement authorities. Those addicted to narcotics often commit violent crimes in order to secure the money to buy their drugs. Those who are high on drugs may become involved in motor vehicle accidents when they are under the influence of the drugs. You get the point, narcotics are behind a significant amount of the crime committed in the United States and often destroys the lives of the drug users and the lives of the members of their families.

Our nation spends billions of dollars waging a “War on Drugs” yet, paradoxically, the administration is not willing to secure our borders against the flow of drugs, criminals and potentially terrorists, all so that corporations can increase their profits. Meanwhile, Americans are dying. Law enforcement officers are getting wounded and killed and, in fact, I have lost several colleagues and friends in the law enforcement community to this supposed “War on Drugs.”

Next this article echoes a point that I have made often, when I have engaged in debates on various radio and television programs concerning the argument I often hear that Mexicans are not terrorists. The question is, what does a Mexican look like? If a terrorists managed to gain entrance into Mexico or other Latin American country such as Brazil where there is a problem concerning training camps for terrorist organizations being reported in that nation’s Tri-Border region, how difficult would it be for that terrorist to become fluent in the Spanish language and then assume a Latino identity, enter the United States and then embed himself (herself) in a community and pass himself off as a member of the Latino community?

Now I want you to consider this disturbing question. What would enable the overworked bureaucrats at USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) to determine the identity of millions of illegal and undocumented aliens who would participate in the sort of Guest Worker Amnesty Program that is innocuously referred to as “Comprehensive Immigration Reform?” I am not just referring to the name of such an alien applicant but the nationality as well. I ask this question because even though the most recent effort at jamming this treacherous legislation down the throats of our nation’s senators just several weeks ago was defeated thanks to the courageous efforts of such senators as Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania appears to be attempting to do it yet again! What part of the word “No” does he not understand? When a young man refuses to take “No” for an answer when he is with a date, he may find himself being charged with “date rape.” Here there are politicians who appear to be similarly unwilling or somehow unable to take “No” for an answer and are figuratively intent on raping this nation! All to satisfy their wealthy campaign contributors and curry favor with the special interest groups.

Providing identity documents for individuals who have no verifiable way of identifying themselves would enable terrorists to assume new and legal identities in the United States. This would provide them with the opportunity to embed themselves in communities around our nation as they await instructions to carry out another murderous attack against our nation and our people. That is why I referred to the most recent version of the Senate immigration bill as the “Terrorist Assistance and Facilitation Act of 2007.”

Not securing our borders provides easy and undocumented access to our nation by criminals and terrorists and enables millions of illegal aliens to circumvent the efforts designed, at great expense, to document the arrival of aliens entering our nation. The lesson here is clear to the bad guys who would want to enter our country. Why pick the lock on the front door when the homeowner has left the back door wide open?

The politicians in Washington are frustrating the vast majority of Americans by expanding the Visa Waiver Program, not securing our nation’s borders and refusing to properly fund efforts to enforce the immigration laws both along the border as well as from within the interior of the United States. There is virtually no integrity to the immigration benefits program yet the President continues to push for legislation to further erode our freedoms and expectations of privacy. As a former INS senior special agent I understand and appreciate the need for enhanced surveillance and other such measures. It is not, however, acceptable to increase these efforts while refusing to secure our nation’s borders and create an immigration system that has meaningful integrity. i would remind you that we are rapidly approaching the 6th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001 and our borders are still porous, Border Patrol agents who do their jobs are imprisoned, USCIS loses tens of thousands of critical immigration alien files and still provides benefits including United States citizenship to thousands of aliens without reviewing their files!

When the next attack comes there will be no way for the self righteous politicians to stand before the cameras and microphones and thump the podium demanding to know why the “Dots were not connected!”

In the years since 9/11 many of us have not only connected the dots, we have provided the “Fools on the Hill” with the crayons so that they could color in the pictures! Yet they refuse to do so. They must be made accountable in the voting booths the next time that they are up for election!

We the People must become involved in the political process as never before, because our nation’s survival is being challenged, as never before!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!

Hezbollah and Qaeda operatives are in the lawless "triborder" region of South America, where Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina meet. The triborder region of South America has become a place where terrorists with widely disparate ideologies -- Marxist Colombian rebels, Hamas, Hezbollah, and others -- meet to swap tradecraft. according to U.S. government officials, al Qaeda now uses chat rooms to recruit Latino Muslims with U.S. passports, in the belief that they will arouse less suspicion as operatives than would Arab-Americans.

You forget that these bought officials would probably also look the other way when Ahmed and Mohammed add a few more items to the tons of dope they allow in.

You want to stop this, end prohibition, kill the black market narcotics monopoly by drying up the profits.

Our nation spends billions of dollars waging a “War on Drugs” yet, paradoxically, the administration is not willing to secure our borders against the flow of drugs, criminals and potentially terrorists, all so that corporations can increase their profits.

I think another problem that the legislators see with building the Fence is that the flow of illegal aliens nor drugs will not be diminished except perhaps momentarity. We will certainly see an increase in unauthorized passengers being carried in the back of the thousand of semi trailers that come across our border with Mexico each day.

Then what about the increased illegal passengers on the railroads. I can just hear them in Washington say, "Heaven forbid, you mean we would have to check the trains too? What's do these people think we are capable of? Correcting all the ills in the system?"

The drug cartels will be glad to hire illegal aliens to carry the drugs into our ports and onto our coastlines for further passage inland. This would call for an expanded Coast Guard.

Have you thought about the sorry situation we currently have in our ports regarding shipment inspection. Less than two percent of all shipments are actually inspected by the port authorities. Imagine what will happen when we start demanding secure ports after the borders have been corrected.

The prices of all foreign imports to the US of A will rise which will upset the multinational corporations who moved to Mexico, then China in search of cheaper products. The globalists will be very upset to learn that manufacturing in America is once again the best way to sell their product to Americans. That will put a very serious dent in the side of the New World Order and globalization. We might a well just get out of the United Nations and start over.

From: HIV and AIDS in Malaysia

HIV Situation

In the two decades since the first HIV/AIDS case was reported in Malaysia, the number of new cases has risen exponentially. By the end of 2004, roughly 64,000 Malaysians were reported as infected with HIV, of whom some 9,400 had developed AIDS. The majority of reported AIDS cases and HIV infections contracted were through injecting drug use. In 2003 some three-quarters of the total reported cases of HIV/AIDS comprised Injecting Drug Users. Another 12 per cent were categorized under heterosexual activity and just 1 per cent under homosexual or bisexual behaviour. With a 5.3 per cent increase in the proportion of antenatal women screened in 2002 compared to 2001, the number of HIV-infected women detected almost doubled from 79 to 141 cases among those screened under the Mother-to-Child Transmission (MTCT). The almost 80 per cent increase in 2002 from the previous year is cause for concern.

This story sounds a little hokey to me. Those Mexican drug cartels are always fighting each other over the drug business. There are always news stories about their bloody battles in the streets of Mexico. If they won’t share the business with each other, why would they want to share the business with camel jockeys? I don’t doubt that some of them might work with terrorist types if the money was good enough, but they aren’t going to want to share money with terrorists, fund them, and they’re probably going to be at least a little leery of knowingly working with these types anyway because if the people they are working with start blowing things up in the U.S. it’s going to bring the heat down on them in the worst way. These people are greedy businessmen out to make lots of money. They’re making tons of it and it doesn’t make sense for them to do stupid things to screw that up. Will terrorist types ever try to use drug runners’ smuggling channels? That is quite possible. Are Mexican drug cartels going to want to “team up” with Islamic terrorists, fund them, help them achieve their goals? I don’t really see that happening. Their interests and their motivations are too divergent.

--news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/this_world/3791889.stm

"The GOS [Government of Singapore] nonetheless is concerned about the increase in addiction rates and recidivism among drug offenders who have undergone treatment. There are currently about 9,000 addicts [Singapore's population was about 3 million] undergoing rehabilitation in Singapore treatment centers, the same number as in 1995."

The Netherlands has extensive demand reduction programs and lowthreshold medical services for addicts, who are also offered drug rehabilitation programs. Authorities believe such programs reach about 7080 percent of the country's 25,000 harddrug users. [Netherlands population was about 15.1 million then]

Crunching the State Dept. numbers - Singapore had almost twice the rate of heroin addiction as the Netherlands. And Singapore's figure only takes into account the addicts under treatment, whereas the figure for Holland is the estimate of the total number of addicts.

Singapore's heroin problem was in the same ballpark as the US in the same period:

"There were an estimated 980,000 hardcore heroin addicts in the United States in 1999, 50 percent more than the estimated 630,000 hardcore addicts in 1992."

Question: Which of the above countries is providing the least financial support for drug gangs and terrorists?

Ken, I lived in Malaysia for 18 months, and never saw a joint, let alone heroin, hash, meth or anything else. Iran was not in the conversation.

You don’t say. You might want to immediately pass this information on to the ever vigilant Homeland Security Department. I am certain that they would get on this right away.

Yeah, and I've had to endure a three thousand dollar rectal exam to adopt. DHS is a Crock O Sh....

I don't doubt you, but they were clearly being used - and in large enough numbers to create a public health problem.

Iran was not in the conversation.

You said (paraphrasing) that if there had been a real war on drugs, it would have been won years ago.

Singapore and Iran, which have been waging a WOD similar to Malaysia for decades, are two more examples that argue against your assertion.

OK I stand corrected, but at least in Malaysia, it must have been mostly hookers, and illegal indonesians, otherwise, I can’t reconsile the disparity.
