It's not like they are sitting home playing video games or causing trouble. They are serving.
In this case, they are serving their faith before country. But still, they serve a higher calling. I wish all youth did one or the other, frankly.
Yet how many youth serve neither their faith or their country?
Well, to name just a few of those youth who served neither: Ronald Reagan's kids, Bush's kids, Fred Thompson's kids? I am sure it is pretty common among all the candidates. So what? Perhaps each family finds their own way to support not only their faith, but their country too and vice versa.
I found an interesting blurb on it. It seems while Utah is dead last in military enlistment right out of high school. The Mormons rank near the top in high quality enlistments of those who chose the military as a life-long career:
An Associated Press article (27 December 1999,Salt Lake Tribune) reported that Utah ranks last among all states in the proportion of young men and women signing up for military services (according to military figures). The military recruiters attribute this partially to the state's healthy economy and high proportion of young people attending college, but primarily to the choice of Utahns to serve as missionaries for the Church. The age group that the military prefers to recruit from is "also the prime age group for Mormon men to go away on church missions. And in a state that is predominately Mormon, most young men turn to the church and away from recruiters."
On the other hand, Utah ranks fourth highest among all states in the proportion of "high-quality" enlistees. Only Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota recruits outscored Utah.
I saw them on television and was very impressed with them. Seems like a nice family. We could do worse, you know. I have NO idea who I’m going to vote for, but I won’t turn Mr. Romney down just because he’s a Mormon. But, as I say, I’m not sure who I’ll vote for yet.
Mitt, did your sons register with the Selective Service when they turned 18, or wait until you joined the NRA?
Mitt's dad founded the National Volunteer Center, one of the country's largest volunteer organizations and has campioned charity work and volunteerism for all the Romneys.
Mitt also created and then served as president of the Bain Capital Children's Charity Ltd., which spends more than $1 million annually on youth-related causes.
Service to our country can be fulfilled in many different ways. People should do what they are best at thereby accomplishing more for themselves and others.
Yes Mitt's sons were registered for the Selective Service. Tell me tiger-one have you served? Are you a veteran?
General Norman Schwarzkopf "Amateurs talk tactics. while the professionals talk logistics."
I am grateful for George Romney's logistical support of the war effort.

Wartime Production Automobile industry produced 1/5 of all WWII war materials. Converting auto industry to military vehicles as well as bomb shells, fuses, machine guns, artillery, aa guns, etc. World War II (1939-1945) had a drastic effect on automobile manufacturing in the United States. After 12 years of depression, high unemployment, and labor strife, America was attacked by the Japanese on December 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Consequently, the United States entered World War II. Two months later, the last passenger car for the duration of the war rolled off the line. The automobile industry was converted to wartime production. Chrysler Corporation mass-produced tanks, and numerous carmakers built trucks for the military. GM built shells, bombs, fuses, navigation equipment, machine guns, artillery, and antiaircraft guns, in addition to engines and vehicles. Ford mass-produced bomber aircraft. The automakers more than doubled their productive capacity during the war, and women and minorities made up a significant portion of new workers.
Yes and yes US51509754 1964-1966. And you?
You must have copies of Mitt’s son’s SS registrations, or you are just guessing?
Sorry, Mittster, to equate working on your daddy’s campaign with putting your life on the line in Iraq to fight terrorism is an insult. You owe an apology to our brave men and women.
And my opinion doesn’t mean that everyone needs to be in the military or that candidates should not run if they or their families don’t serve. I’m just saying that whay Mitt said is insulting.
Perfect answer IMHO.
FMCDH(BITS)
He was liberal governor of a liberal state, not what I want int he Whitehouse.
Why should anyone think less of a person for not joining the military? That is just a revolting sentiment.
That has to be one of the most egotistical statements I have ever read.
I disagree with you on that, but that is beside the point. If those are your feelings, criticize him on those issues . . . NOT on his service to his country.
One question please: Do Mormoms serve in the military? Or is military service forbidden?
oops. those were two questions....;)
Quoth George Romney father of Mitt.
“When I came back from Vietnam, I had just had the greatest brainwashing that anybody can get when you go over to Vietnam.
Explaining why he was for the war before he became anti war.
This is no service or support by Mitt’s father.
With that attitude, no wonder not one of Mitt’s 5 sons have served.
Duncan Hunter’s son quit a good job after 9/11 and joined the Marines. Served 2 tours in Iraq and now in Afghanistan

Yes, I served, I was a 95A between Gulf I and II. Though I never served overseas. I have an older brother who is currently serving, career military. My Father was in the doctor draft during Viet Nam. By far however the most patriotic family member is one of my older brothers who has never served in the military. Military Service is a good thing but not the only thing.
My grandfather cracked codes for the FBI during WWII because of his fluency in German from his Mormon mission there. He never wore the uniform. There are other ways to serve your country.
