255,000 Chinese-Made Tires Recalled

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- A tire importer said Thursday it would recall 255,000 Chinese-made tires it claims were defective because they lack a safety feature that prevents tread separation.

The recall involves half the number of tires that the importer, Foreign Tire Sales Inc., had identified in June as possibly posing a risk.

The models involved are steel-belted radial replacement tires for pickups, vans and sport utility vehicles that consumers bought from early 2004 through mid-2006, Foreign Tire Sales said.

It would be sweet irony to burn all 255,000 tires and reclaim our rightful title as biggest polluter on earth from the Chinese.

"If it says “china” I will NOT buy it! I try to never buy ANYTHING made by chicoms!"

My lib brother tried that about ten years ago and found it nearly impossible. And he tried REAL hard. I bet it is flat-out impossible today.

I’ve never been to wal-crap. Thankfully they are not prevalent in my state. When Walton was lining up products to be stocked in his first store, he ignored local manufacturers and went to....China.

Electronics? Tennis shoes? Not everything is made in the USA unless you are willing to spend $$$ on boutique, custom made stuff. Look at everything in your house and tell me where you can find it made in the USA. Like others have said: start with your computer.

From article:

===================================

Information on the tire recall was to be posted at Foreign Tire Sale's Web site, http://www.foreigntire.com. Consumers can also call a toll-free number, 888-899-9293.

The recall applies to Westlake, Compass and YKS brand tires in these sizes and models:

--Size LT235/75R-15, models CR861 and CR857, with a DOT number beginning 7DT5FTS.

--Size LT235/85R-16, models CR860, CR861 and CR857, with a DOT number beginning 7DT2FTS.

--Size LT245/75R-16, models CR860, CR861 and CR857, with a DOT number beginning 7DT3FTS.

--Size LT265/75R-16, models CR860, CR861 and CR857, with a DOT number beginning 7DT4FTS.

--Size LT31X10.5 R-15, models CR857 and CR861, with a DOT number beginning 7DT6FTS.

Although Foreign Tire Sales did not make the tires, it is responsible for the recall, under U.S. law.

hmmmm...... it’s almost like cheap labor and production get you ......................... cheap products. This is the flip-side of the coin presenting itself. Big business is going to learn that they don’t get a free lunch either. You get what you pay for. You reap what you sow. The market will not be mocked.

Not exactly true. Sam Walton was a big supporter of "Made in the U.S.A.). He actually was responsible for throwing lifelines to several US companies by offering an outlet for their goods. But it was not long after Sam's death that the corporation dropped the "We buy American whenever we can, so you can too) line. Now it is all about the cheapest.

Sam Walton stocked his stores with American Products. There used to be big “Made in America” posters/ stickers/ signs all over his store. After his death Wal-mart has turned into a completely different store.

Firestone recently added cheap, Chinese tires to their line. I was told it was to compete with the Walmart cheap, Chinese tires.

I cannot argue with that. The only other point would be to say that there are no other stores left to compete. Wal-mart dominated the market with cheaper prices but with American goods. When all the mom and pop stores were put out of business Wal-mart started using even cheaper foreign goods. Now Americans have no choice.

“From the beginning, Walton had bought goods wherever he could get them cheapest, with any other considerations secondary,” writes Bob Ortega, author of the Wal-Mart history, In Sam We Trust. By the early 1980s, Ortega reports, Walton “increasingly looked to imports, which were usually cheaper because factory workers were paid so much less in China and the other Asian countries.”
