Ron Paul big on 'Net, but media don't notice
Clarence Page August 8, 2007
WASHINGTON
Of all the interesting little fish swimming beneath the currents of the major candidates in this presidential campaign season, none is making waves as surprising as those kicked up by Rep. Ron Paul.
The Texas Republican, who embraces a libertarian point of view, has been riding an unimpressive 2 percent in the polls, but if the presidential election were held in cyberspace, Paul would probably win hands down.
Paul's supporters flood online polls, such as the unscientific survey ABC News invited viewers to join after the Republican debate last Sunday. Yet, you could barely find the Texas doctor in the network's after-debate coverage, despite the vigorous applause he ignited with his call for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.

This is a nice article. Let’s hope he has a good showing in Iowa.
Like Paul or not, he keeps things stirred up. And both parties could use someone to come along and pee in their champagne. :)
Break out the Kool Aid again.
Is this the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy or a Vast Left Wing Conspiracy? Or are they in it together? That's it, they're all alike... no difference...
The media is ‘noticing’...and recalling Howard Dean in 04.
Geeks and other smart people can understand him. It’s the simpletons that just can’t get passed the knee jerk reactions the status quo have been pounded into their heads over the years.
Clarence Page is a died in the wool liberal Dem.
Aw hell...
It is getting too easy...
So I want to reach out and help with the Media.
Need a slogan though...
Got it.
Ron Paul 2008, a short wave in every bunker!
I wonder what would have happened in 2004 if old howard hadn’t screamed.
Why does this sound more like a self fulfilling conspiracy, just working the other way to delude them into thinking there is more support than there is?
Clarence Page is a died in the wool liberal Dem.
Yep, I suspect he probably wrote about McCain in 2000 in similiar light.
I wonder what would have happened in 2004 if old howard hadnt screamed.
His stunning inconsistencies would have made it a landslide for Bush.
The sad thing is this Professional Geek understands him, and his ideas are almost great, but that ones that come up short are dangerous...
Which makes it fun of course.
I also know that Star Trek is not a documentary and they really are not out to get us...
“Ron Paul 2008, a short wave in every bunker!”
Heh, I got all three of those. The yard sign, the short wave and the bunker.
I’ll have to fire up the old short wave and see if anyone is talking about Paul. It’s been a while.
He hasn’t put in that much effort. He’s a one man campaign. Come on now. No advanced team, opposition research. He relies on the internet. Now Romney has a virtual army of people on the ground. He’s spent over a million dollars on this straw poll.
“but that ones that come up short are dangerous...”
I understand your concern, we live in a dangerous world. It goes back to that Safety vs. Liberty thing for me. I haven’t seen another candidate that isn’t willing to sell out the liberty part on behalf of the safety net.
“The Texas Republican, who embraces a libertarian point of view, has been riding an unimpressive 2 percent in the polls, but if the presidential election were held in cyberspace, Paul would probably win hands down.”
No, if the election were held on the net, more people would take these cheesy internet polls more seriously, and Paul would end up with the same national numbers.
Let me know if you hear Dr. Paul on Alex Jones again.
Maybe, Bush against Kerry should have been a landslide as well.
Columnist are taking notice of Ron. Page a is Pulitzer winner. George Will and Novak. This is going to be fun. GOP establishment is throwing one cheap shot after another his way.
Maybe, Bush against Kerry should have been a landslide as well.
No, Kerry played a very careful campaign, and did a good job of blurring positions. Combined with the President’s noted communication problems....
“Let me know if you hear Dr. Paul on Alex Jones again.”
I really should get out more. Not sure who Alex Jones is. Is he on the shortwave?
As far as selling out liberty I am not seeing it. I have yet to see any rights of good honest hardworking citizens be trampled.
The only fruitcake I see is you :>)
No his campaign specifically told the nutty supporters to back off.
Google employees are liberals. Liberals love Ron Paul because they think he will upset the Republican party.
The two biggest liabilities for Ron Paul are his idiotic supporters and his surrender policy toward the jihad.
I’m sure at some point, the media will twist things, such that they will say that because Ron Paul has many supporters on the internet, the majority of his supporters can afford computers and internet access, and are therefore “rich” and that it’s not fair.
Living in the DC area most my life, we always had the fear of many nukes going of at any moment drummed into us. What has changed is that now it’s a smaller nuke and maybe just one, or a dirty bomb here and there. Maybe some anthrax, a sniper or two. All much more manageable stuff.
You hit the nail on the head.. if it weren't these two things, I would probably give him my consideration, but because of this, I am prone to scrutinize him in detail (especially because of the latter item..)
That's because it's very easy for a small handful of people to make a lot of noise on the net. The net allows small groups of people to present themselves as disproportionately by the relative amount of noise they can generate.
Disproportionately larger, that is.
The two biggest liabilities for Ron Paul are his idiotic supporters and his surrender policy toward the jihad.Whenever a Ron Paul thread opens up, all you have to do is wait for a dozen or so posts and then start scrolling down. Invariably you find one that sums up Ron Paul perfectly. In this thread, pacelvi gets the prize.
Well said, pacelvi. Your post is right on the money.
Yes.
that, and the fact that Ron Paul is a Jew-hater.
Actually I really like lemon cake made with fresh lemons.
But the fact is that Paul has no really support.
Just a few fanatics busily posting articles and voting 129 times in every on line poll.
Clarence the cross-eyed Page sounds like a big Ron Paul fan (of course, that all changes by next June.)
It pretty much was, only close because of the rat shenanigans in a few states.
Excellent idea, vote on the internet and let people vote as many times as they want.
I hope you're not suggesting that's a Ron Paul idea.
And I have news for you, while many of Paul's supporters consider themselves the true storehouse of political knowledge, both parties would immediately amass voting computor banks.
I think he has a radio show, and possibly TV, but not sure about that. He also produces films about conspiracies. I've actually showed one of his films at our public library.
