A Texas family is suing Gov. Rick Perry and a school district over a state-mandated moment of silence in schools, according to The Dallas Morning News.
David Wallace Croft and his wife, Shannon, of Carrollton, Texas, have three children at Rosemeade Elementary and argue that the moment of silence is unconstitutional and amounts to state-sanctioned school prayer.

I wonder if they’ll sue when the muzzies get their 2 or 3 twenty-minute prayer-sessions in a specially-provided room with closed circuit tv views of Mecca.
“David Wallace Croft and his wife, Shannon, of Carrollton, Texas,”
Petty, hate-filled people.
A**holes! Perfect time to administer a punch in the gut.
Regardless of where anyone might stand religiously, I think just about anyone can see from this statement that these people are some of the most unconscionably stupid people this country has ever produced.
Question: To which God or gods is one praying if one sits there in silence? And how would anyone else ever know?
I think I’ve actually got one of his Java books. I knew I had heard that name somewhere before.
The bastardization of the Establishment Clause continues.... Few people realize that the Establishment Clause was not meant to apply to the states, but rather, as all the Bill of Rights were originally intended, only to the Federal Government. Even fewer people realize that as many as 8 of the original STATES had established religions, Mass. keeping theirs the longest, until 1835. But enough with the history lesson, it will be interesting to see how the new makeup of the Supreme Court affects the outcome, if at all, of Establishment Clause cases. At least there won’t be any more of O’Connor’s “balancing tests” ... Let’s hope anyway.
That's putting it mildly.
Jsut goes to show - you can give a person a degree, but you can’t give them intelligence or reasoning capacities.
We used to have several moments of silence when I was in the West Iron County Public School system. It was called “When the hand goes up, the mouths go shut”. The teachers were very liberal with this practice.

I am also a Founder and the Treasurer of the Society for Universal Immortalism (formerly the Transhumanist Church).
As a transhumanist, I believe that future technologies such as nanotechnology will one day permit us to live forever. I have made arrangements with the Alcor Life Extension Foundation for cryotransport upon my death.
I created an announcements mailing list and a discussion mailing list for North Texas Transhumanists living in the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex.

I have been nominated to serve as Chair of the Metroplex Atheists. I serve as Vice Chair and Webmaster of the Metroplex Atheists Reading Group.
I am a member of the American Humanist Association.
I recently became a member of the all-volunteer democratic organization Atheist Alliance International.

I am confounded by how a universe could come to exist from null.
Or these lines:
“I recently became a member of the all-volunteer democratic organization Atheist Alliance International.

I am confounded by how a universe could come to exist from null.”
LOL! That is classic.
This will probably get tossed out pretty quick. There is established case law that a moment of silence is NOT government-sponsored or -mandated prayer, as one has the option to pray to whatever God or gods one believes in, to meditate on the day, or not do anything at all.
That’s why we *have* moments of silence now instead of prayers, after all.
I just have to laugh at atheists who still create a religion.
I wonder if they'll sue when their children and grandchildren are required to abide by a muslim mandated government which was allowed to come to power because of limp wristed twits like themselves?
I just checked for his phone number. It's unlisted. Hmmm. I wonder why?
*sigh*
As a student I would have been THRILLED with a moment of silence, whether to pray, collect my thoughts, or even JUST BREATHE in silence.
These people need to get a grip. Unless someone is saying you “must” pray it is no more sanctioning school prayer than anything else.
I’m Jewish and a Texan — I grew up with prayers at football games — public high school. If it helps those who believe, more power to them. I was respectful and silent during their prayers. *shrug* I’m sure if enough Jews wanted a Jewish prayer we could have gotten (or I guess they still could get) a rabbi to lead one - I think though that now there are no prayers at all. Which I find more sad — I’ve always found the moment of silence a “fairer” compromise than anything else — at least be respectful of everyone’s beliefs.
If the humanistic kids want to stand on their heads for that minute, let them. If they want to read, let them. If they want to pick their nose and examine it under the scope - who cares? ;)
When my kids were in the Texas schools they had morning prayer over the loudspeaker to start the day. This was in the 1970s.
Can you imagine how screwed up his kids are going to be?
IMHO, the proper way to respond to their suit is to say "Prayer? Who said anything about prayer? Stop being ridiculous. Nobody has mentioned prayer except you."
In their charter they claim they are open to ALL viewpoints. Apparently not to any established religious view.
I have heard of several people who did not believe in God start believing in him as death got closer.
And footbaths in the restrooms.
So, let their kids have a moment of silence to “prey.”
Funny, he calls himself involved in religion on his front page.
David Wallace Croft and his wife, Shannon, of Carrollton, Texas,
Insignificant people in hope of their 15 minutes of fame.
He wrote “I am confounded by how a universe could come to exist from null.”
One word: God.
Of course that’s probably not a word he uses much.
Free publicity through media stunts. When will he go on the TV talk show circus/circuit?
Umm... Not.
What you do during that moment of silence is up to you. If the court lets this fly for more than a millisecond, it will be a travesty.
Maybe his kids could use their daily moment of silence to ponder this confounding question. Or maybe that's what he's afraid of . . .
Well, that is the irony of it all. Athiesm is a religion in unto itself. The sole puropose is to disavow religion.
The kids will probably be just fine. They’ll grasp from a fairly early age just how bizarre their parents are. After all, they’ve got ringside seats.
Good grief, what a couple of idiots.
ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL. That was my point, exactly.
= )
Hey! I resemble that remark!
We’ve had a ‘moment of silence’ for well over 5 years in Virginia. Does anyone know if there has been a challenge to it?
On parenting. Max Jukes lived in the state of New York. He did not believe in Christian training. He married a girl of like character. From this union they have 1206 descendants. Three hundred of them died prematurely. One hundred were sent to the penitentiary for an average of 13 years each. One hundred and ninety were public prostitutes. There were 100 drunkards, and the family cost the state $1,200,000.
Jonathon Edwards lived in the same state. He believed in Christian training. He married a girl of like character. From this union they have 729 descendants. Out of this family have come 729 descendants. Out of this family have come 300 preachers, 65 college professors, 13 university presidents, 60 authors of good books, three United States congressmen and, outside of Aaron Burr, a grandson of Edwards, who married a questionable character, the family has not cost the state a single dollar.
That Jonathon Edwards may have been the same Jonathon Edwards who preached, "Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God."
“David Wallace Croft”, hmm. You ever notice that most serial killers use three names?
What an idiotic waste of time and energy on the part of this a$$hat.
The Virginia moment of silence was challenged in court back after it went into effect (2000-2001). The Supreme Court refused to hear the appeal, so it stands.
FWIW, that was when Jim Gilmore was Governor and Mark Earley was AG. Not sure we’d have had the same results/arguments a few months later.
That would be “noticed”.
