Cindy Sheehan Announces Run Against Pelosi Anti-War Activist To Challenge House Speaker For Seat In Congress
(AP) SAN FRANCISCO Citing her son as inspiration, a tearful Cindy Sheehan announced her candidacy Thursday for the U.S. House of Representatives.
The anti-war activist is running as an independent against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has represented San Francisco in Congress since 1987.
"The country is ripe for a change," said Sheehan, who spoke at a podium with her son's photograph taped to it. "It's going to start right here and right now."
Sheehan's 24-year-old son, Casey, was killed in Iraq in 2004. Since then, she has gained international notoriety by setting up camp outside President Bush's Texas ranch and demanding to meet with the president.
She last month announced her intention to run against Pelosi if the speaker didn't move to impeach Bush by July 23.
On Thursday, Sheehan admitted she has no funds for a campaign, but planned to immediately get started raising money. Without giving further specifics, Sheehan said she wouldn't accept money from corporations and would run on a platform of universal health care.

Well, how nice to hear that Cindy is in favor of socialized medicine. I have wondered where she stood on that issue.

Oh, this is going to be sooooo good!
To: Sub-Driver
Who knew the young Casey Sheehan had such strong feelings on the subject of universal health care?

I have to believe this was decided on by both sides for some political reason.
No one is so mentally crippled to believe that this loon can beat Pelosi's machine, not even Sheehan.
I think they decided to enact this little circus, but I can't as of yet figure out for what purpose. Perhaps a smarter person here on the board can.

Yes, I believe the founders of the universal constitution believed in “galactism”, the belief that the individual galaxies should have all powers not reserved for the universal gov’t nor prohibited to the galaxies. I believe that was the X amendment.

Sheehan could be Nader’s running mate. I know Nader is still angry that Al Gore cost him the election. In any event - the more left-whackers to run against the dem establishment, the better.

The phrase “snowball’s chance in he!!” comes to mind, but it will be fun watching Casey’s mom continue to make an @ss out of herself.
Cindy and Nancy are both SO far off the mark. It would be funny if it weren’t so pathetic, AND if Nancy weren’t actually in a power position in this country. Yikes.

All FReepers rooting on Cindy to win take notes. You are about to witness the real, ugly side of the Democratic Party. Pelosi has SF in her pocket. That means all the celebrities, power-brokers, and left-wing groups are going to answer her call like the bats did in that scene from "Batman Begins."
Sheehan doesn't know who she's dealing with.

I would advise FReepers not to waste their money on this campaign, hoping to unseat Nancy Pelosi.
Pelosi will win the Democratic primary by a landslide against Sheehan.
The DNC cannot allow a Speaker of the House to lose her own district - especially to a challenger who is one of the leaders of the anti-Hillary wing of the Democratic party.
Sheehan will be destroyed - she does not and never will have a chance.

"Wanna bet that Cindy actually thinks shell become Speaker if she DOES beat Piglosi" When I was a boy I knew a very kind but very uneducated family down the street. I remember their teenage daughter coming home from her first job in the housekeeping department at a hospital. Her mother looked at her and dead seriously said, "Do well and work hard in your job honey and you might get promoted up to doctor someday."

We'd send money just for the fun of watching Nancy "with the Laughing Face" have to deal with someone who's nuttier than her. Heck, Sheehan makes Dennis the Menace Kucinich look like a moderate.
Sheehan will be destroyed - she does not and never will have a chance.
Has anyone here said she does? Where's your spirit of fun?
