Denver chief asks metro agencies to send officers.
Denver won't have enough cops of its own to police the 2008 Democratic National Convention, so Chief Gerry Whitman has called on suburban police departments to help carry the load.
In a recent letter, Whitman asked various metro area police chiefs to pledge forces for the convention next August...
Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates has responded by pledging 300 officers - 50 percent of his street force - for five days.
Denver police declined to release a copy of the letter or to discuss convention security plans.
"We won't talk a lot about what our resources are," Jackson said. "That's not good, to let the bad guys know."

Exactly!
What they’ll never admit is that the protesters that disrupt Dhimmi conventions are.....Dhimmis! The protesters who disrupt at Republican conventions are.....Dhimmis again!
The Aug. 25-28, 2008, convention is expected to attract 35,000 people...
Give 'em enough policemen to handle the traffic but otherwise... hands off.
Is Hickenlooper supporting the DPD any better ?
35,000? That’s less than half a football game.
Yes :
the protesters that disrupt Dhimmi conventions are.....Dhimmis
Yep, I hope that many are FOP members and will refuse working for the DNC, Good for them.
These ‘peaceful’ protestors got some politicians in the Denver City Council to propose lots of special rights for these ‘peaceful’ protestors.
The motion failed.
The Denver Police are not happy with the Mayor...
I’ll bet their pals down at Al Qaeda could cut some of their boys loose to help pull security for the convention.
I’m just going to sit back and watch. With a good cigar and a single malt.
Yes, but since any political convention from either party inevitably involves hundreds of members of Congress, former Presidents, dozens of governors, Fortune 500 CEOs and various and sundry other bigwigs, the logistics and security issues are horrendous.
Aurora also insisted on immunity for anything their police needed to do. So, Denver would be on the hook if anything goes wrong.
I fully expect this event to be filled with protests and the trash these people will leave behind is going to strain Denver’s abilities. Some on the far left are calling for a repeat of Chicago years ago (1964?). Not a good sign.
Well, I don't have any special knowledge, so this is just me. My sense is Hick isn't really doing any better, but he hasn't done anything lately to further aggravate matters with the rank and file. The Childs shooting case and aftermath seems to drag on forever and continues to rankle.
DPD has figured out it doesn't have the resources to cover the Democrat convention and has issued a call for reinforcements to suburban departments. So, now that he really needs the police to go above and beyond, maybe Hick will make nice with the cops so his big party won't be spoiled.
-—I am of mixed emotions about the Demotraitors conventioning in my former favorite adopted state—part of me feels sorry for Colorado and part of me hopes that Chickenlooper has to call in the military to restore order-—
