'Time' Puts Horns on the Reverend Billy Graham
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Edited on 08/10/2007 5:14:46 PM PDT by Admin Moderator. [history]

Could there possibly be an American who doesn't admire the Reverend Billy Graham? Apparently, yes. Have a look at the cover of this week's 'Time.' Of all the ways the editors might have positioned the logo, they managed to do so in a manner in which the 'M' in 'TIME' is transformed into horns protuding from the good reverend's head.

Tucker Carlson and Willie Geist took up the matter on Tucker's MSNBC show this afternoon.

View video here.

MSNBC'S WILLIE GEIST: A guy who has advised presidents, the Reverend Billy Graham on the cover of Time Magazine this week. I know the media is secular, but do they have to rub it in? A nice picture there of the reverend praying, but look at the horns above his head. A not-so-subtle message that maybe he's, well, Satan incarnate.

MSNBC HOST TUCKER CARLSON: That is actually . . .. Have people complained about that? Because that's unbelievable.

GEIST: Yeah, there's some chatter on the internet right now, and there's sure to be more.

Glad to oblige.

Just when you thought the MSM couldn't possibly sink any lower.

Note: when Viagra put horns on a man's head in a recent ad campaign, the FDA ordered the images yanked from the air. So what the government considered inappropriate in a Viagra ad, 'Time' considers appropriate in a depiction of the Rev. Billy Graham . .

According to the link you provide, the viagra ads were pulled “because they failed to disclose known risks associated with the drug.” It didn’t have anything to do with the horns.

Yep, I'm sure it's all an evil plot to make Graham into the Devil!

Really, this is reaching to the nth degree.

Wow, that’s pathetic! There’s no way that’s an accident. Even if it was incidental to begin with, there’s no doubt it had to be noticed before the cover was anywhere near a printing press.

Oh, c'mon. We are always chastizing the left for seeing demons where there are none (the "Rats" controversy); let's not stoop to their level of conspiracism.

Also, the imaginary horns aren't in the proper plane that they would be if this was deliberate. This isn't worth anyone's time who has an ounce of intelligence.

With respect, I don’t think you realize the extent to which major mags like Time scrutinize their covers for every possible detail and implication. That of all the possibilities, the horns just happened to protrude from the Rev.’s head is no coincidence.

I do realize the extent they go to - but I also realize it’s silly to go looking for a conspiracy behind every bush. This is a coincidence. As someone noted above, it’s doesn’t even look remotely devil-ish, as the “horns” are on the wrong intersect plane. But, I can see how you could jump to conclusions about it.

Didn't mean to insult; sorry. This is to me just ridiculous and beneath us.

I guess the best "what if" is what Billy himself would think of this. My guess is he would laugh it off as ridiculous. That's what I'm doing.

Billy Graham acted like he was the protestant version of The Pope: there is only one church (Roman Catholic), there is only one Pope at a time, but there are many, many, guys with cropped hair in suits speaking about Jesus. Perhaps Billy garnered the horns because he’s been hanging with Bill & Hillary too much: bound to rub off.

I think you should realize that the MSM has always tried in subtle ways to project subliminal images that conservatives are evil.

I'm trying to remember all the images and screen shots over the years of "accidental" bloopers by the MSM.

One of our favorites:

Harmless? Accidental? Only a moron would think so.

Of course I can’t prove it was intentional just as you can’t prove it’s a coincidence. I do note that Tucker and Willie Geist also found it outrageous.

“Yep, I’m sure it’s all an evil plot to make Graham into the Devil!

Really, this is reaching to the nth degree.”

On another note a friend of mine reenlisted in the Air Force some years ago. Sadly an airman had confessed to child molestation at the same time.

My friend’s picture made the base paper with a picture of him taking the oath. The caption to the left read: NCO Reenlists”. The caption directly beneath the picture of my friend who had his right hand in the air was: “TSgt Confesses to Child Molestation”.

He was p*ssed and we all got a good laugh.

Yes, but they're always so transparent when they're obvious. I don't think this is obvious. Which means that it isn't deliberate. I don't have any more time to spend discussing this non-issue.

Adios, and nice to communicate with you....

Listen: I don’t even know what “religion” Graham was other than apparently it was not Catholic. Just like The Pope: he’s had to suck up to some shady people. It’s bound to diminish the integrity of their overall relationship with “believers”. No problem with Graham: my problem is with some of the people he took under his wing (i.e. the Hedonists Bill & Hillary, that Quaker Nixon, that n-word using Lyndon Johnson, etc.), just as I have a problem with some of The Pope’s “meetings”. As for Pravada Time: what do you expect: their commies and don’t believe in religion in the first place.
