They JUST anounced here in NYC on FOX 5 NY news that the NYPD is raising their counter terrorist surveilance level, including vehicle checkpoints and radiological detection.
It was their lead breaking story. No details yet.
Looks like Debka was right this time. Sounds like a radiation attack, perhaps using truck bombs...(news story yesterday).
Thanks for posting this...
maybe related to this. I hate quoting Debka, but apparently the NYPD is taking it seriously.

DEBKAfile Exclusive: New Al Qaeda threat of radioactive truck attacks naming New York, Los Angeles, Miami
August 10, 2007, 1:11 AM (GMT+02:00)
The threat was picked up by DEBKAfiles monitors from a rush of electronic chatter on al Qaeda sites Thursday, Aug. 8.
The al Qaeda communications accuse the Americans of the grave error of failing to take seriously the videotape released by the American al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gaddahn last week. They will soon realize their mistake when American cities are hit by quality operations, said one message.
Another said the attacks would be carried out by means of trucks loaded with radio-active material against Americas biggest city and financial nerve center.

Debka info. FYI
"With the raising of the national alert level from yellow to orange, the New York City Police Department has stepped up anti-terrorism precautions under Operation Atlas. Under Operation Atlas, the Police Department has launched a coordinated defense of the city, using regular patrols as well as police officers equipped with heavy weapons to safeguard landmarks, houses of worship, bridges, tunnels, subways, and the transportation system generally. The alert level in New York City was already at orange, indicting a high risk of attack. ..."
We did...I’m sorry I neglected you on that one...I’ll keep you in from now on.
No problem...........and thank you.

Operation Atlas has been in effect since 2003. This was announced on the news as something new, unless of course the news guys got it wrong.
I saw that. However, the info on the site I linked to was dated August 10, 2007.

NYPD Steps Up Dirty Bomb Precautions
Spokesman Says Threat ‘Unverified’
Last Edited: Friday, 10 Aug 2007, 10:11 PM EDT
Created: Friday, 10 Aug 2007, 10:11 PM EDT
The NYPD has modified its counter-terrorism posture Friday because of unverified intelligence regarding a dirty bomb risk.
This change includes an increased deployment of radiological sensors — including those mounted on vehicles, boats and helicopters as well as those carried by NYPD personnel.
In addition, vehicle checkpoints are being established in New York City, including lower Manhattan, and at certain approaches to the city from neighboring areas.
These efforts are not in response to a verified threat, the department spokesman said.

They call it “Operation Highway Sniffer” — a military-style title for a series of anti-terrorist checkpoints set up by the Suffolk County police.
And it’s happening Monday on a Long Island Expressway rest stop.
The police will set up specialized equipment to detect radiation, explosives and other terror-related substances at a rest stop on the LIE, the location of which authorities asked not be disclosed, beginning at 3:30 p.m., police said.

Police Deployed In Response To Unverified Radiological Threat
August 10, 2007
Police, fire and EMT teams have been deployed around the New York City tonight in response to unverified reports of a radiological threat.
Authorities stress that the threat is unconfirmed and that the city’s terror alert status remained unchanged.
Nevertheless, police say that they have deployed a battery of radiological sensors, including vehicle and helicopter-mounted devices, as a precautionary measure.
Authorities are also examining vehicles at checkpoints in Lower Manhattan and selected Manhattan entry points.

This is strange. Below is a link to NY1 news, but it seems almost like the article is from back in the London subway bombing days:

Unfortunately, people get jaded over these terror alerts.. they get a little testy over being "scared for nothing"..
Anyone hearing about any police activity in LA or Miami, citied mentioned in the Debka story?
Hopefully this will turn out to be nothing more than an attempt to take attention away from the subway mess of earlier in the week. :)
It’s those darned Amish again...
This is something more.
What subway mess?
Fox 5 in NYC just had a reporter at the Holland Tunnel entrance showing video of a typical police checkpoint where they ar randomly stopping cars and trucks.
This is pretty typical. You see these checkpoints now and then. It is unusual to hear a story about it however.
Thank you
I can’t believe anybody would put any credence in a DEBKA story.
This likely is not related to the recent Debka story.
What -is- it related to?
Anyone hearing about any police activity in LA or Miami, citied mentioned in the Debka story?
Nothing so far - will keep monitoring and advise if anything
breaks!
Prayers for all!

NYPD: Unverified Radiological Threat Made To NYC
UPDATED: 10:39 pm EDT August 10, 2007
NEW YORK — An unverified radiological threat was made against New York City Friday, but the city’s alert status remained at “orange” level.
The New York Police Department released the following statement:
“While the threat remains unverified, our counterterrorism posture, which is reconfigured daily based on intelligence from around the world, has been modified to include increased deployment of radiological sensors, including vehicle, marine and helicopter-mounted, as well as those carried by NYPD personnel.”
Additionally, vehicle checkpoints were established in the city, including lower Manhattan, and at certain approaches to the city from neighboring jurisdictions.
NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul J. Browne stressed that the deployments were strictly precautionary and not the result of any verified threat.
thanks, bfl
Can someone cut/paste the debka article?
Notice how this story came out -after- the markets closed?
Always issue bad news late on a Friday.....
Thanks for the post.

A third message mentioned New York, Los Angeles and Miami as targets. It drew the answer: The attack, with Allahs help, will cause an economic meltdown, many dead, and a financial crisis on a scale that compels the United States to pull its military forces out of many parts of the world, including Iraq, for lack of any other way of cutting down costs.
There is also a message which speaks obliquely of the approaching attacks easing the heavy pressure America exerts on countries like Japan, Cuba and Venezuela.
DEBKAfiles counter-terror sources and monitors say there is no way of gauging for sure how serious these threats are, how real, or whether they are part of a war of nerves to give the Gaddahn tape extra mileage. But it is important to note that the exchange of messages took place over al Qaedas internal Internet sites and that they contained the threat of radioactive terror and specific American cities for the first time after a long silence on these subjects.
In addition, a growing number of clips has been disseminated of late over al Qaeda sites instructing the faithful how to design remote-controlled gliders, pack them with explosives and launch them against predetermined targets.
there should be
Karl... are you hearing anything up in LA tonight?
I can’t believe we are reacting to a Debka article.
Stand down, fella’s. It’s Friday and the NYPD shouldn’t be concerned about drunk white guy’s.
