BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - There are so many negative vibes around "Cavemen" that at least one TV critic is taking bets that it won't even get on the air.

The ABC series based on Geico insurance commercials has gone beyond being just another stupid sitcom.

Questions are being raised about whether the Cro-Magnon characters will reinforce racial stereotypes.

Have you seen the cavemen interview.

The commercials were funny, watching effete cavemen violating caveman stereotype.

Apparently, the show producers cannot tell the difference between effete and flaming gay.

The actors were not funny and sounded like they had been recruited directly from a San Francisco bathhouse. This show is unlikely to see the light of day.IMO

The producers revealed that one of the cavemen is gay.

This is too stupid for words.

I agree the whining guy on the therapist couch seems like a fairy to me.

The cavemen in all the Geico commercials are METROSEXUAL. That is why it is so damn funny. Metrosexual cavemen!! Come on!! LOL!!

It is a one joke pony, however, not enough to sustain a sicom for ever a full episode.

“Too stupid for words?”
It is the stupid for which we spend an unlimited blathering of words.
A whelter of anti PC shows have done well these past few seasons. Perhaps the best of these is “Are you smarter than a 3rd grader?” (Or is it First Grader?) They are all dumb as a stick and wildly popular. Dissing PC is in and gets ratings.
The show will run if only because there is a high degree of curiosity. It will continue if it is well written, a la The Simpsons, a true anti PC classic.

Somehow, I never thought about racism when I watched this skit on SNL

I am wondering how these guys ever managed to survive the Ice age. Going to a Barbara Boxer lookalike for mental help seems like step backward.

In the original commercial where the Geico rep takes them to dinner and apologizes, i thought the one who bitchily refused to eat was quite gay. All that was missing was he didn’t snap his fingers at the Geico man.

As for the Barbara Boxer therapist, I don’t know if I’d call Talia Shire that. Yo Adrian.

I’d be insulted if I was compared to a snooty, whiney “metrosexual”, too!

I always thought that “Amos and Andy” was an insult to cavemen.

LOL

Priceless.

I hope it works out because my friend from high school is starring in it and it could be his big break into the top tier of show business!

Whatever else can be said about the commercials:

Roast Duck with Mango Salsa sounds pretty good!

(ooops...now the PETA people are gonna howl)

Yep the Geico commercials are highly effective at subtly poking fun at the libs. If I thought there was a chance in the world that this would continue in the sitcom, I’d be looking forward to it. But more likely it’s what I believe John Simon said about Hollywood’s version of Bonfire of the Vanities: the original authors take the money, hold their noses and toss their material over the California border.

Questions are being raised about whether the Cro-Magnon characters will reinforce racial stereotypes.

Of course they are. Whether it is a sitcom, the weather report, or a documentary about hummingbirds, the professional racists will raise questions about racial stereotypes. That is what they do; that is what they have done for a long time; and by now, they are very good at doing it.
