I heard on the radio a little while ago that Romeny spent more than ALL OF THE OTHER CANDIDATES COMBINED.

He bought the Ames straw poll, plain and simple.

This isn’t American Idol. Put your faith in paltry polls if you wish. Media-driven polls, especially one where “votes” are purchased only shows how many tickets can be sold. My vote isn’t for sale.

In St Louis and Arizona and Spartanburg and other straw polls, they actually polled conservatives. In Iowa’s, they poll whatever caracasses the campaigns can drag to the event. Mitt spent a couple mil, easily. And it will do him no good at all. LOL

Heck, I guess we don’t need no General Election now. (sarcasm)

wonder, will McLame will drop out since Hunter beat him in a poll? Or Rudy since Hunter was only 9 points behind? Maybe FRed should drop out since he only has a couple hundred more supporters than Cox
You're talking about guys who weren't even in the straw poll, aren't including Iowa as part of their strategy, and in one case isn't even running for the nomination.

McCain won't drop out because of this, but the handwriting has been on the wall for a long time for completely different reasons.
But you already know that.

Lots of strawman arguments here to deflect Hunter's straw poll disaster.

No wonder one of the posters who was there told me that Romney’s crowd didn’t applaud much, and looked apathetic.

Their names were on the ballot, they participated even if they didn’t show up for one day. Rudy and McCain were both campaigning in the state for several weeks. FRed has been on the airwaves as well.

If anything, it was a poor showing for FRed (he’s got name recognition, charisma and all that). Romney spent over 2 million for a straw poll...I’d call that a DISASTER of epic proportions.

You just don't get it.
This isn't a media driven poll.
This is a test of organizational strength, where candidates get a chance to prove their campaign's viability in order to continue raising funds.
Everyone knows already that Fred and Rudy are viable candidates. They didn't need to prove anything here.
This is the one chance a bottom tier candidate gets a shot at pulling away from the other bottom tier candidates, and get closer to the top tier.
That was Mike Huckabee today.
He is the chosen one now. There was only one ticket out, and Huckabee got it.
Hunter didn't even come close, which means his candidacy will be taken even less seriously now.
He earned himself a demotion, if that's even possible.
After today, he might as well be John Cox.

This is how it works.

The Romney crowd was just watching the meter and hoping the check clears!

Wonder if Flip Romney will have to mortgage his house like Kerry did.

Again, keep pushing the polls...they really worked for Jean-Fraud Kerry.

Nice spin, but you’re wrong.
Read #171 above.

Fred and Rudy have no infrastructure in Iowa. McCain has next to none.
Just because their names were on the ballot, it doesn’t mean they were competing. The straw poll is a show of organization and paid activists. It proves a candidate’s GOTV machine, nothing more.

Saying Fred is “on the airwaves as well” is disingenuous.
Having a part in a TV show is not the same thing as running a political campaign.

No, I don't think many of us are that worked up about this at all. He spent eight days there. He's been busy working - doing work that counts, that will save your and my @$$. In the final analysis, this will come before the American people.

His strategy from the getgo has been slow and steady. He knows he's got the name recognition thing to overcome - said as much on Medved the other day. He's made progress, and we're helping it along. He knows he must stay in this long term before it bears any fruit - just as Iraq has taken a long term commitment and is finally showing blossoms of promise, despite years of naysayers' naysaying and natterers' nattering.

Cut and run? No way...

Not once do you say issues matter...that's the spin. First you say the poll is the end-all be all, then make excuses for FRed and Rudy, nice try.

FRedbots are certainly expending alot of energy on us "1%-ers".

That’s all well and good, and I think Duncan Hunter has served San Diego well for the past 20 years. He is a serious man who takes the business of running the country seriously.

Unfortunately, he has no campaign, and you cannot win an election without one.

Hunter doesn’t have Romney’s $200,000 consultants or John Edwards’ $400 haircuts either....neither of which will win over a voter.

What Hunter DOES have...he’s RIGHT on all the issues. That will go along way.
