Of course, as to the vertical dimensions, but you know what I meant. However, in no case is the strike zone a foot off the plate on the outside, or six inches off the plate on the inside. I'll use Jose Guillen as an example. For whatever reason umpires seemed to hate him; maybe he mumbled at them under his breath while at the plate. With Guillen chin music was a strike, balls an inch from his jersey were strikes, balls bushing by his ankles were strikes. It's no wonder he was so often plunked when he played for the Nats in '05 & '06: the pitchers knew what the umps were doing, and took advantage of it by coming in much closer than the otherwise would have.
