China Seizes Pigs Force-Fed with Water
The Straits Times (Singapore) ^ | June 28, 2007 | The Straits Times (Singapore)

(BEIJING) - Chinese police raided a village where live pigs were force-fed wastewater to boost their weight ahead of a trip to the slaughterhouse, state media said, in the latest case to highlight the country's poor food safety record.

Four trucks packed with 80 live pigs were found by Beijing police on Wednesday in a vacant lot on the southern outskirts of the capital, the Beijing Morning Post reported on Thursday.

Plastic pipes had been forced down the pigs' throats and villagers had pumped each 100 kilogram pig with 20 kilograms of wastewater, the paper said.

The case underscored China's chaotic food safety situation, where manufacturers and distributors often use unapproved additives or dyes, falsify expiry dates or find other methods of cutting corners to eke out small profits.

Paperwork found at site showed the pigs were headed for one of the city's top slaughterhouses and stamps on their ears indicated that they had already been through quarantine and inspection, the paper said.

No arrests were made because the suspects ran away, it said.

Similar things have been known to happen at US farm shows...totally illegal and against rules of competition.

Wonder how many weeks until PETA takes notice?

At this rate I don’t think the world will make it to the Olympics in ‘08.

One year is a long way to go — they’ll be an “incident” and hell will break loose.

True that.

One wonders, however, how news about the place keeps escaping, and why the MSM would run such stories.

...an interesting parallel to what American CEOs are trying to do to profit margins by outsourcing production to this irresponsible nation (regardless of the safety threat it poses to American consumers).

forced down their throats, they had been force fed Steroids
in an attempt to circumvent the Olympic rules.
The 300 lb. males had been forced to consume over 20 lb.of industrial steroids after having passed the manditory

Here's another one of the poor creatures that they rescued. This picture was taken just before it threw up all the wastewater it consumed.

When the China mess becomes a campaign issue I suspect a lot of top tier candidates will be doing an interesting dance trying to attract voters and appease the big money corporate donors who deal with China.

My momma always told me, “Never look at (or question) the ingredients of a Chinese egg roll.”

Momma was much wiser than I ever gave her credit for.
