The Two Things To Know Before Your City is Nuked By Terrorists
Townhall.com ^ | August 15, 2007 | Douglas MacKinnon

Posted on 08/15/2007 4:41:43 AM PDT by Kaslin

1.) Tragically, horrifyingly, but quite predictably, it’s going to happen. The only question being which American city or cities?

In a recent conversation with a former high level intelligence operative of our government, I raised the possibility of terrorists successfully detonating a nuclear weapon within the United States. His response was sobering in its hopelessness.

First, he stressed how grateful he was that he did not work in Washington, DC, and that his family lived far enough out to survive the coming nuclear blast. When I pressed him as to why he was so sure that Islamic terrorists – with or without the help of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez – would eventually hit DC or another American city with a nuclear weapon, his anger boiled out.

He pointed the finger squarely at our politicians and our politically correct, left-leaning media, who, in his opinion, have “sealed our fate.” He spoke of politicians from both sides of the aisle who consider border security nothing more than a cheap tool to be used for their reelection and enrichment. He despaired about a media that not only gleefully leaks our nation’s most trusted secrets for partisan gain, but then willingly acts as a propaganda tool for the very terrorists intent on our total destruction.

He warned of the hundreds of “loose nukes” floating around our planet. He patiently explained that the former Soviet Union (no matter what they or our government claim), can’t account for a number of their nuclear warheads. That North Korea may well have a few they are willing to sell to terrorists to prop up their totalitarian regime. That Pakistan – already a nuclear power – may soon fall victim to the Islamic extremists trying to overthrow that government. Of an Iran further ahead in their development of nuclear weapons than thought. And last, but not least, he spoke of the thousands of cruise missiles unaccounted for around the world. A number of those missiles being nuclear tipped.

In short, because of what he portrayed as a “betrayal by those sworn to protect us,” a nuclear attack within our nation, in his mind, is “inevitable.”

2.) When said attack comes, you and your family are on your own. Period. My friend stressed that “our government won’t be there to help us. It is broken beyond repair and incapable of assisting those most affected by the blast.”

He talked of critical infrastructures like water, electricity, fuel, banks, our food supply, medical services, police and firefighters, being unavailable for weeks or months. He warned of the blind panic that would follow such an explosion. Of the looting, of neighbor turning on neighbor to take what they don’t have for their own survival. Of our economy suffering an economic loss in the trillions of dollars.

Knowing this, are you prepared? Can you and your family ride out the frighteningly unpredictable weeks or months following the loss of an American city and its inhabitants? If you are not in the city hit, can you survive?

You must ask yourself this question. For, unless there is a miraculous epiphany about to be visited upon our self-centered politicians, then such an attack is certain.

If our politicians and the voters continue to suicidally put party and partisan politics before the welfare and security of our nation, then the terrorists will find the opening to hit us.

Our government and media are failing us. Prepare for the worst.

Actually a small nuke would not destroy all that much of a city, relatively speaking, the contaminated areas could be much bigger based on bomb size and location/height of the blast.

The ensuing panic would be by the people running around right now with their head up their fourth point of contact.

Nothing clueless about being prepared. We here in hurricane country have seen firsthand what goes on when civilization breaks down.

The media and government never told the people all that went on after Andrew.

I'd get serious about getting prepared.

The only part of this that is right is the trillions of dollars part.

Rescuers were all over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in hours, not days. And these terrorists would be unbelieveably lucky to engineer a 12-18 kT explosion - 0.5-1.0 kT is much more like it.

Why wouldn't we do better than the war-scarred Japanese?

Of course we would.

And lots of water and spaghetti.

The only valid point here is this:

Our gov’t, at all levels (fed, state, local) have abdicated their primary responsibilities.

Borders are uncontrolled, invaders allowed to walk our cities.
Convicted criminals are turned back onto the streets via weak sentencing.
Drug users never held responsible for accidents, lost productivity or health care cost.
Infrastructure (air, roads, rail) incapable of handling the growth in population.
Infrastructure (air, roads, rail) not maintained properly.
Social services abused by the in-eligible and mismanaged.
Billions of dollars lost by gov’t agencies.
Law enforcement officers that are untrained, incompetent and neutered.

Need I go on?

I have serious doubts that there are any “suitcase bombs” out there in the wilderness. It does seem to be the subject of constant apprehension, kind of like global warming. I guess we just never trusted the Soviets to tell the truth about anything.

What’s to know? That it will happen and that political correctness is the cause.
Afterwards there will be a lot of panic, unending discussion, and blaming the wrong people. I can guarantee you that the people who should be deported will not be deported, but that instead they will wail and moan and get additional privileges!

A chartered plane from overseas that never lands (at least in one piece) in the US is the most likely delivery system (I would guess). Since it never lands, it doesn’t need to worry about customs...

I dunno about walking a nuke across the border, but I worry about it being driven over. Driven over in a Mexican truck—sealed in a container that is not inspected. Bypassing US customs without a second glance. And all for the price of bribbing a low level Mexican shipping clerk.

Think it can’t happen?

Unfortunately, I don’t think even a nuke going off would wake this country out of its stupor. After one nuke, you’d have the NYT (if NY got nukes, substitute the WAPOST of LATIMES) calling for immediate negotiations, urging restraint, and stressing the many benefits of diversity and free-trade. Maybe if they took out Washington DC, NY, Boston, and LA it would do the trick. Very sad, but I suspect true. The reality-free liberal mindset is so entrenched in this country that it would take the death of a massive number of them to spur action.

Somehow, by hook or by crook, and with everything else going on at the time, the government - federal, state, and local - will manage to find the personnel and the time to make house-to-house searches for lawfully-owned firearms. Bet the farm on it.

If something happens, it will be with dirty bombs, not nukes.

Dirty bombs are much easier to design and construct. I'd be looking for coordinated attacks on both DC and New York with large-scale dirty bombs in moving trucks or on tractor trailers.

And remember - even though terrorists like high body counts, what they'll really be looking for is mass panic and large-scale economic damage. They know anytime the market so much as twitches, people get nervous. Coordinated dirty bomb attacks would hit the economy hard.

Since GWB issued a directive for the Goobermint to spread out to ameliorates a decapitating attack (most likely nuke and this isn't the first such article) I think we should list the positive affects:
1. The idiot pols elected by both parties will disappear.
2. The MSM as it stands will disappear and not be able to lament their political allies lost.
3. The welfare state ends.
4. The border is sealed.
5. Mt 9MM takes care of the rest.
I love it when a plan comes together. Feel free to add your own positives. Let’s look at the bright side of this.

I’m not so sure this is empty scare-mongering, and even if it is, in the sense that the “source” is either made up or making things up, the idea of a nuke attack isn’t all that far-fetched.

One thing I’m sure of. Afterwards, there will be vigilante groups and secret societies.

I wouldn’t want to be a well-known leftist during the long and tragic aftermath. They will be hunted down like the treasonous vermin they are.

Just a prediction.

With the amount of active and retired Army on my block it would be a little hot for looters turning the corner looking for easy pickings.

Most are Korean War and VN vets. I don’t think a gang of looters is going to strike much fear in this bunch.

Of course the younger active guys from the recent fight would have to brush the older guys up on modern house to house fighting. Old farts might be slow but their aim is still good. :-)

In the aftermath of a disaster some inner cities deteriorate into anarchy and government services are scarce or unavailable. Remember New Orleans and the Superdome. Multiply that by the number of cities hit.

I have a number of relatives and close friends living and working in DC and its first-ring suburbs.

They don't share your relative's cowardice in the face of terrorist threats, and at least two of them have considerably more insight into the risks involved.

As for me, I will continue to work in midtown NYC every day and raise my kids 17 miles away from downtown NYC.
