Dozens of cities across the nation have proudly become illegal immigrant sanctuaries, but officials in one municipality are pondering the status after a Peruvian man with a felony record massacred three college-bound students.
Had authorities in Newark New Jersey contacted federal immigration officials after illegal alien Jose Carranzas first felony indictment last year he would have been deported and therefore prevented from murdering three innocent youngsters in a schoolyard this month.
Instead Carranza was released on bail, despite being charged with raping a 5-year-old girl and aggravated assault and weapons violations. This week he was charged with the gruesome execution-style murders of three college-bound students, ages 18 to 20.
The shootings evidently pushed Newark authorities to violate their sanctuary policy and contact federal immigration officials who had not been previously informed about Carranzas crime spree. If they had, Carranza would have placed in removal proceedings after his first felony arrest in October 2006.
But like a growing number of municipalities across the nation, Newark is an official illegal immigrant Sanctuary City in which police cannot ask a suspect about immigration status. Other sanctuary havens include Detroit, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston and New Haven.
Some states--such as Alaska, Oregon and New Jersey--actually have blanket sanctuary laws. In fact, New Jersey passed legislation in 2006 that bars law enforcement agencies throughout the Garden State from asking about immigration status.
After the measure blew up in their collective faces with this horrific case, lawmakers are reconsidering the consequences. Now a Newark city councilman wants to sponsor legislation urging local police to call immigration authorities upon arresting undocumented aliens because it helps law enforcement go after bad people in our community.
One newspaper editorial suggests that illegal immigrants charged with serious crimes such as rape and murder should not ever be release on bail. It also urges county prosecutors to notify federal immigration officials of adjudicated illegal aliens whether or not they get convicted.
The Drive-By media are burying this story. The issue would KILL the democretins in 2008.
Someone in city government should be prsoecuted for turning this animal loose to prey on the citizenry.
And in all the coverage I have seen no mention of motive. Was it a robbery or is he just that depraved?
This is a key point. In many states the County/District/States Attorney is elected and is largely independent of state control. Prosecutors should always report criminal aliens to ICE. In my opinion, not to report them would be a violation of their oath of office. Having said that, it is virtually impossible to get ICE to do anything about illegal criminals who are reported to them

Absolutely, the media remembers Willie Horton even if most Americans have forgotten.
Sanctuary cities make me as mad as the government who won't do their job and everyone who supports, hires or defends illegal aliens
These sanctuary laws are long overdue for a heavy duty challenge all the way to the Supreme Court. They should all be invalidated as unconstitutional. No way is it within the scope of the states’ powers to require their paid employees to aid and abet people in their ongoing violations of federal law.
McCarthy better watch his back. There are some pretty tough people with little to lose, who don’t find the deaths of these young people to be “irrelevant” at all.
I recall riots in some of hour cities when police treated criminals none too gently. But no rioting here where four good kids were tortured and murdered. Did I miss the outrage from Rev. JJ?
I hope the libs will finally see...
AFAIK, the judges who let him out on bail (darn cheap) have complete immunity for their actions.
which is why the Rs should make it their primary campaign issue.
I have ask this question before: If a doctor can be sued for a bad decision/ bad outcome why are judges immune from the same rules?
Alaska is a sanctuary state? I wouldn’t expect that from a blood red state all the way up north.
