actually, the Army is ISSUING AKs.
my brother-in-law, an Army JAG O-5, was OFFICIALLY ISSUED a "brand new Russian one" about a year ago "over there". Frank said that he liked the AK better than the M-16.
evidently, we seized so many AKs when saddam fell that the "powers that be" decided that "tech support, CSS & some CS troops" should be armed with them. (do we have a shortage of M-16 rifles???)

That picture looks like it is Iraqi Army.

could be. i just don't know the answer to that.
otoh, i thought it was "interesting" that Frank was actually ISSUED an AK47. (while LOTS of GIs carried "battlefield pick-up" AKs during the RVN years, those were NOT ever an "issue item".)
just for the record, i frequently carried a "privately owned", sawed-off, Stevens, 12gage, double barrel shotgun and a 4" barrel,Model 27 S&W "over there".
note to readers: PLEASE don't bother telling me that carrying a privately-owned weapon was "against Army Regulations". ARs did NOT "come down from the mountain, graven into stone tablets". ARs are "for the guidance of the commander" ONLY. my CG was WELL aware of my carrying the shotgun, as he saw it daily (slung over my shoulder) at staff meetings.
to quote a flag officer i used to know, "I COMMAND this unit. I am NOT it's !@#$%^& "administrator", so don't tell me what some fat @ssed bureaucrat wrote in a regulation."

If you wanted to counter-protest INDEPENDENTLY of FreeRepublic and risk an obscenity charge, I suppose they’d be OK to bring along.

I like the one in reply #20 the best. Of course it has too many multi-syllable words so the moonbats won’t understand it as well as your first offering. . . . (Seriously, I do like the “Not pro-war, I’m anti-terrorists” the best.)

They stick with what works, and it worked with Vietnam, so.... They must be passing aroung copies of "Rules For Radicals" by Saul Alinsky, because I'm not sure if it still in print. They were betting that we'd sit on our sofas and do little more than blog. The very fact that GOE is happening for the 3rd time dampens their efforts. But for those that can't get to DC, we have to join forces and take on the local tentacles of this octopus. End Armchair Patriotism! Defeat the Left wherever we find them!

FANTASTIC POST, CB!!!! LOVE THAT PICTURE!!!! Yesterday at our rally, a young woman rolled down her window and shouted the "no blood for oil" mantra. I asked he, "If it is about oil, why are you driving?" Funny, no one is complaining about the cost of a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread, cup of coffee/tea, a movie ticket (not to mention the concessions). Why is no one saying thank you for the declining price of a gallon of gas?

After being a one of those keyboard warriors since beofre klintoon and co, it's a lot more rewarding spiritually to be on the street yelling than inside my house.
and no one tells me "shut up, I can't hear the TV."
