No matter what you think of Karl Rove -- or anyone else in politics -- please keep it to yourself, or at least falrly quiet. That was the message in a note sent to staffers at the Seattle Times by Executive Editor Dave Boardman after what he called "an awkward moment at yesterday's news meeting."
What happened? According to Boardman in the latest email installment of what he calls "Dave's Raves" it was this: "When word came in of Karl Rove's resignation, several people in the meeting started cheering. That sort of expression is simply not appropriate for a newsroom....As we head into a major political year, now's a good time to remember: Please keep your personal politics to yourself."
The incident was described in a blog by chief political reporter David Postman. He comments: "I wasn't there, but I've talked to several people who were. It was only a couple of people who cheered and they, thankfully, are not among the people who get a say in news play. But obviously news staff shouldn't be cheering or jeering the day's news, particularly as Boardman points out, 'when we have an outside guest in the room.'
"Jokes get made in newsrooms, of course even what you would call gallows humor. And Boardman wrote that he was 'all for equal-opportunity joking at both parties' expense.' But he was clearly ticked off by yesterday's display."
Many reporters are angry, ugly children.
I used to be one - but I wasn’t ugly. :)
Does that mean the big-three networks and CNN will leave their DNC cheerleader skirts and pom-poms home on election night in 2008? That would be a refreshing change.
ROFLOL!
Oh the hypocrisy of the Legacy Media truly knows no bounds.
Well, they’re claiming that the cheering did not involve anyone involved in news decisions (so what were they doing in a meeting of newsroom staff?), but yesterday’s Seattle Times op-ed page contained no less than three anti-Rove pieces - an editorial by the Times and columns by E.J. Dionne and Eugene Robinson. So the cheerers must have thought they could get away with it, given the atmosphere in the newsroom.
Needs a rewrite:
"Please keep your personal politics subtly buried in the articles you write."
I remember on election night 2000 when they mistakenly declared Gore the winner, the cameras caught Paula Zahn, then with Fox News, in a big cheer.
The insane left truly view Rove as the anti-christ, though when pushed on why they can never give you a solid reason.... Newspapers are by and large leftist bastions so nothing overly suprising to hear this happened.
There are socially inept people in every group. One of the long term mover/shakers with a lot of personal staff(brought in about 30-40% of the biz) in my company was canned by the President. There was a very somber staff meeting right after it happened about how to re-group from this. At the end of the meeting one of the competing mover/shakers, said “great, let’s have a party”.
How tolerant, diverse and inclusive of the unbiased press.
That BS call before the polls were closed in the Florida panhandle cost W at least 5000 votes from people who heard the news and got out of line without bothering to vote or turned their cars around and chose not to go to the polls. If not for that BS, Florida would not have been close enough to even talk about a recount.
“In the meeting room, with an “outsider” present, keep you politics to yourself. When you are writing your lies, er, articles, let it fly!!”
“In the meeting room, with an “outsider” present, keep your politics to yourself. When you are writing your lies, er, articles, let it fly!!”
This POS “newspaper” cannot go out of business fast enough...right up there with NYT and LAT....liberal garbage can
And Homo’s.
And Dan Rather looked like he was going to have a breakdown every time he had to announce another state had gone for W. When they got around to announcing that W had won both Tennessee and Arkansas, Rather was visibly pissed off and defiantly bitter about it.
No, they are just the reporters and they have no say where their biased articles get placed.
I always get a one word "explanation."
"HALIBURTON!!!"
They should be crying. Rove is on the loose to help other Republican Candidates.
Rove you Magnificent B*STARD
Not too long ago I was given some sage advice for leading a more peaceful life.”Lose the news”.
Oh yes, one question. For those who did not cheer, were they put on a special watch list?
One thing that makes me happy in looking back at the 2000 election is that in those BIG 3 networks: RATHER, BROKAW, and JENNINGS are NO LONGER there (Jennings has passed away in fact).
Bastards, liars, posers.
These Dim hacks should be fired.
Oh, but not most newsrooms, which display overt DNC partisanship like this one in Seattle.
I have to control my opinions about the Times because my sister works there and so did her husband before he retired. They’re good people but blissfully unaware of their political bias. For the sake of family unity, I never broach the subject at family gatherings.
I dumped cable a long time ago.... news is primary through places like this and I do subscribe to the local newspaper, and read it.... (I know I’m one of the few under 50 who still does this)....
But, I know the local paper is liberal in its bent, hugely. So I still read it, and do keep up on a lot of stuff, but I also recognized editorialization vs reporting.
He is leaving the Whitehouse and is really getting in Hillary’s cage. This election is getting to be “SO” fun!!!!!!........
But only hiring deranged leftists is.
Jokes not only get made in newsrooms, but also in ERs and clinics, out of patient ear-shot, of course!
Guess this is how you handle things when you’re a denizen of the unbalanced MSM and you’ve had little to cheer about since the 2006 elections.
"Editor and Publisher" is missing its editor.
They thought he was the anti-christ before any of the current “scandals” were even launched.... I can remember dealing with psycho leftist bashing him like he was hitler in 03.... They just despise him frankly because he’s a damned effective strategist who’s beaten them time and again, best I can tell.
Boardman doesn’t think that the obvious bias is the problem — the only problem is that an outsider was allowed to witness it.
You are right - they hated Rove before any of the stuff happened that they’re now trotting out as reasons to criticize him. The E.J. Dionne piece blamed Rove for the spirit of “divisiveness” in the country. What BS. Remember how during the 2000 campaign - before Bush was even elected - the Dems were blaming Bush for the economic downturn, saying he was “talking down the economy”? And I clearly recall - about two weeks after Bush took office - the Dems were already running anti-Bush television ads, accusing him of poisoning the water. This is a fact. Yet Dionne blames Bush and Rove for the divisiveness and partisanship.
Quite the contrary, sir. It is MOST appropriate for the newsroom to openly demonstrate its biased, one sided point of view, thus revealing the reporters' status as mere cheerleaders for liberal democrats...........Oh, now I see why the editor thought the outburst was inappropriate. Nevermind.
Hypocrisy on steroids.
Nothing surprises me coming out of Seattle, the 2nd most leftist liberal city in the US.
Liberals catching liberals acting like liberals. Amazin’.
Cartoonist David Horsey has been on the editorial board for some time now. He draws an occasionally amusing 'toon but I have never really forgiven him for making a stirring defense of why the Times chose to censor the Danish Mohammed cartoons - "sensitivity" dontcha know - and in the middle of the controversy launched a lengthy written diatribe concerning the abuse of women. No, not by the guys who wrap them in burkas, cut off their genitalia, deny them schooling and other basic human rights, and were threatening to murder anyone who opposed their will in the matter of the cartoons, oh, my no - his target was the stereotypical t-shirt clad white male. Dave, if you're reading this, you're a coward and a hypocrite. IMHO.
That said, I must be fair enough to point out that the Seattle Times endorsed Bush in 2000. Even they couldn't stand the idea of four or even eight years of Algore.
The insane left wanted Rove frog marched out of the White house.
I remember Brit Hume announcing Gore was leading in some state and you could hear Paula say "yessss" off camera. So I guess she was doing this sort of thing the whole night. I was so appalled by her behavior that I left FOX and surfed around not watching any particular channel. Paula Zahn, professional journalist? Yea, sure.
The first thing Rove did——Guest on Rush”s!!!!!!....
>>>”Please keep your personal politics subtly buried in the articles you write.” <<<<
If only they would go back to subtly burying their biases. The press now overtly displays their biases. As Rush says, the MSM has chosen sides. There is no attempt to cover it up even though they still have the audacity to deny their prejudices.
Good for Rush and Rove. Is there a transcript somewhere?
“I never broach the subject at family gatherings.”
Ha! You’re lucky! My brother-in-law is a muslim!
It is on his Website!!!!......I think we will be hearing more from Rove next month!!!!!.....You can take that to the bank, the big one!!!!!!.....
It was Bernard Shaw and Judy or Paula crying on CNN when Clinton was impeached by the house.
