Mitt Romney on 'Hannity & Colmes' (Romney Forces Beckell to Back Down!)
Fox News ^ | 08/15/07 | Fox News

Posted on 08/17/2007 6:53:10 AM PDT by Reaganesque

BOB BECKEL, GUEST CO-HOST: Governor, this is Bob Beckel in for Alan Colmes. You just said something interesting in your response before. You said that those are the kinds of things said by people on the other side. Are you suggesting that Barack Obama is on the other side of the United States on this war? You said the other side. I'm curious what you meant by that.

ROMNEY: I meant the other side of the aisle. Democrats have been saying — for instance, Harry Reid said we lost the war, forgetting of course that we knocked down Saddam Hussein and his military. And then when the surge was only days old, he said that the surge failing or had failed.

Consistently the Democrats are saying things which are playing into the hands of those who oppose our interest in the world and it is unfortunate. I don't believe for a minute these guys really think some of the things that they are saying. I think they hope they are appealing to the far left wing of their party. But I don't think it's going to work.

...

BECKEL: Governor, you're very good at parsing words. I know understand why you're doing as well as you're doing. I don't think that you can play that back and read it any other way than you're suggesting those of us who oppose the war are somehow less of Americans. But let me ask you this question.

ROMNEY: Bob, I am not going to let you say that. Bob, that's not true.

I wish someone had the balls to call them what they are—traitors.

Beckell is nothing more than a political hack...given to a loud voice that often drowns out anyone else who might be trying to speak. Dims are nothing more than noise...because they cannot speak intelligently on the issues, one on one.

Absolutely right. I said six months ago, that whether it was Rudy, Romney, DOESN’T MATTER-—the first person to consistently and clearly attack these people will win the nomination, period. You don’t call them “patriotic Americans” anymore than you call a guy who is always seen with another woman, who never wears his wedding ring, who criticizes his wife in public at every opportunity a “loving husband.”

Well, he did write a check to a prostitute. I guess that counts for something.

You are correct. I felt by “other side “ Gov Romney was truthfully saying such false claims of war crimes were made by those on the other side of the conflict.

In time of war, people who are antiwar, who undermine our troops in the field, who try to deny the financing necessary to outright victory, who make the enemy's political propaganda for the enemy in the context of our own politics, who eagerly provide aid and comfort to our enemies, who resist the government's efforts to wage war, regardless of political party or purported ideology ARE, in common parlance, if not criminal law, TRAITORS! On an ongoing basis, they show the wisdom of the Vietnam War era bumper sticker: America, Love It or Leave It! Let them go live under the Taliban or the Al Qaeda whom they clearly prefer to their own country.

Today's antiwar antiAmerican obsessives are simply the 21st century equivalent of the Americong of the Jerry Rubin, Abbie Hoffman, Hanoi Jane Fonda, Benjamin Spock, William Sloane Coffin, Jr., William Kunstler, George McGovern, et al., or of the Tokyo Rose and Axis Sally and Ezra Pound type from WW II. By comparison, Benedict Arnold was a more honorable man who, at least, had the excuse that Congress refused to pay his troops as promised while funding less successful armies. Not an honorable man, obviously, but a MORE honorable man than our contemporary traitors.

Also, Mrs. Arkansas Antichrist goes publicly berserk at the suggestion of the truth that she is essentially a treasonous weasel. That means the accusation is truthful and that she is reacting like a vampire doused in holy water.

Beckell IS a moron. Half the time you can’t understand what he is saying. He’s sarcastic, nasty and slovenly in his appearance.

It depends on the situation. Surely anyone who supports an invasion of this country and throws up their hands and says too many are already here so lets not do anything may be accused of treason.

Just because the Feds do something, does not make it right. An example is President Bush and our senators' push for amnesty for illegals, many of whom are terrorists, pedophiles, and other lowlife. No way will I support it.

Just because the Commander in Chief orders our troops to kill Serbs, mostly women and children, does not make it right. This action was not even in the best interest of the US, but quite the opposite. To imply that someone who opposes killing of the Serbs is a traitor is absurd.

Would someone enlighten me. Why is this Beckel given any credence on anything?? Just what has this nothing accomplished outside of being a flack for the Dums.

Beckel is the equivalent of the Generals a basketball team that toured the world with the Harlem Globetrotters. They're existence depended on being humiliated and getting their a@@es kicked every night.

On a more humane note, Beckel is a recovering alcoholic and I wish him continued recovery, health and peace.

Well I totally agree with you on that one. But that's not what's at issue here. The democrats are actively trying to defeat us in Iraq, that to me, is traitorous and I wish someone higher up was willing to call them on it.

I agree with you about your pet peeve. I have another one - Republicans who back down and say I’m not saying their unpatriotic. It’s time to stand up. For once, I would like to see one of these people stand up and say, you see this picture of these people carrying the sign saying WE WILL SUPPORT THE TROOPS WHEN THEY TURN AROUND AND SHOOT THEIR OFFICERS! To date, not one Dem has comdemed that sign. In essence, they agree with it. Now Bob, is that patriotic?

Sean upset me the other day on his radio program. He was talking to some woman who caught her husband cheating, they were discussing the dimwit who got caught because he sent flowers to his lover. Anyway, Sean makes the statmeent “...or like Jerry Springer, write a check to a prostitute...” Sorry Sean, that was your buddy Bob Beckel who did that!

Yes. There can be some patriotic and good Americans who oppose the war, but do not demoralize the troops, demean the mission or divide the country in the process. They are entitled to their wrong opinion as long as they are not emboldening the enemy and hurting the troops.

They needed someone to beat up.

“BECKEL: Governor, you’re very good at parsing words.”

Bob, you’re in a battle of wits and you forgot to bring your weapons. There was no word parsing going on, he said plain and simple exactly what he mean’t. Another point for Romney in my book.
