Despite his “pro-life” campaign pitch, former Gov. Mitt Romney owns stock in two companies involved in embryonic stem cell research, a controversial field of study he previously cited as the reason for his rightward shift on abortion.

Romney holds stock in the biomedical firms Novo Nordisk and Millipore Corp., both of which use human embryos to research cures for chronic diseases, records show. Many conservatives fiercely oppose the research because it destroys the embryos in the process.

“I believe (pulling the investments) is a step he should take,” said Mildred Jefferson, president of Massachusetts Citizens for Life. “I do believe (Romney) is an honorable man, and having declared that he understands the ethical violation in embryonic stem cell research, I feel certain he would not want to have his money go to support it.”

Mitt is a guy who says what the voters want to hear. In Massachusetts it took saying one thing. In the Republican primaries it takes saying another.

’ Romney’s assets are held in a blind trust created after he was elected governor in late 2002. The manager of that trust, Brad Malt of the law firm Ropes & Gray, said Romney had no way of knowing how his funds were invested. “He lost that ability once the trust was created,” he said. ‘

fyi, from the article.

The media can find stock owned by Republicans but can’t find Juanita Brodderik.

Mitt is a guy who says what the voters want to hear.

You could say the same thing about the entire top tier.

Also, Stem Cell research is legal. They get government funding if they are using current lines.
Is that is what is happening here?

fairly certain thats the case.

Whats telling is the Boston Globe ‘buried’ the fact Romney has no control over the blind trust.

This story is sensationalist, just because someone owns stock in Exxon for example doesn’t mean they support oil spills or price gouging....and does anyone really think that guy manages his own money?

The irony is its no different than liberals whining about Cheney and Haliburton, as if Cheney still owed the stock and run the company.

For what purpose?

Just giving you Mitt Romney's historical understanding of what blind trusts amount to politically. Do you disagree with him?

This is gonna leave a mark! Pro-lifers are not going to let this slide. It’s one thing to say he changed his mind about abortion, it’s quite another thing to own stock in companies that violate moral convictions of the voter base.

And in other news, the Boston Globe has found a witness who saw him wiping his butt with his right hand when the latch on the stall of the public restroom he was using sprung open prematurely.

The way I figure, if the Boston Globe hates him so much, he can't be all bad.

Well, they loved him for most of his career. Until he decided to run for President and decided he needed conservative votes. That should tell you something.
