Congressman and presidential candidate Tom Tancredo will join us today now that he placed 4th in the Iowa Straw Poll....go Team Tancredo!
Howie Carr live show ping. Still no word on the Howie/Entercom/Greater Media situation but it looks like
Entercom is partnering with Nassau Broadcasting to put
its WEEI programming on 11 stations elsewhere in New
England, and Entercom has bought half of WCRB FM 99.5
(it will stay classical)...Dennis and Callahan
still have no deal and as far as I know, Entercom
still claims they want to keep Howie. There
are two lawsuits...
Once we DO know we’ll let YOU know. (Originally Howie’s
contract with Entercom was to end Sept 19 and it still
may, with Howie hoping to start on WTKK FM on Oct 1,
but nothing is set yet. For now be aware Howie is
ON VACATION all next week. No idea who will be filling in;
maybe Avi or Col. Hunt?
Howie did hint at it again yesterday... “I’ll be gone
all next week, because I want to burn off some
vacation time (cue the elephant roar)—read the papers...”
(i.e., Howie can’t say on air he wants to jump
ship but through papers and the Net you can find out
exactly when and if...)_
(this doesn’t directly relate to Howie but it may in some ways...will WEEI/Entercom shell out more money
to renew Dennis and Callahan? Does Entercom have money to
trump Greater Media’s bid for Howie? They were able to
pony up a reported $10 million for HALF of WCRB...we still
don’t know if Howie’s headed to FM or not but I think it
could be a matter of not IF but WHEN)...
Entercom & Nassau keep classical in Boston - but will spread Entercom’s WEEI to 4 states
Nassau - which last year struck an innovative deal with Greater Media to enter Boston in the first place - now sells a 50% interest in WCRB (99.5) to Entercom, and will create a new joint venture to keep it classical.
No dollar signs on that deal yet (Boston Herald said it was $10 million, though). But the other half of the Nassau-Entercom arrangement will have repercussions throughout Northern New England, because it puts the highly-rated sports programming of Entercom’s WEEI, Boston on 11 Nassau stations in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and out on Cape Cod, MA.
Entercom was already engaged in an aggressive outreach program to put WEEI into markets like Springfield, MA, with the purchase of an FM there. The Nassau-Entercom announcement doesn’t mention the fate of WEEI morning team Dennis & Callahan - whose contract runs out in September and who’ve been pulled off the air while they’re in negotiations.
It’s not about the money. Howie wants the morning spot. Although Howie would like to bury the hatchet with Tom Finneran. Right in his head.
Yup—Howie’s poll question is “is Howie taking too much
vacation time?” Howie says No but I think Yes is leading.
And he did refer to being on the air “a lot more than
the other afternoon host” (his perhaps future colleague Jay
Wow! This female caller is beatin’ the stuffing out of Howie
“ Howie - letmetalk, letmetalk, letmetalk ! “
What about the average length of relationships since her last marriage?
Howie said during the last hour that Col. Hunt will be filling in all next week. Yikes.
