Posted on 08/18/2007 1:23:17 PM PDT by em2vn
SUMMARY: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is amending the regulations relating to the unlawful hiring or continued employment of unauthorized aliens. The amended regulation describes the legal obligations of an employer, under current immigration law, when the employer receives a no-match letter from the Social Security Administration or receives a letter regarding employment verification forms from the Department of Homeland Security. It also describes ``safe-harbor'' procedures that the employer can follow in response to such a letter and thereby be certain that the Department of Homeland Security will not use the letter as any part of an allegation that the employer had constructive knowledge that the employee referred to in the letter was an alien not authorized to work in the United States.

I know I won’t be voting for any candidates who have opposed cracking down on crimminals who hire illegals.
What a joke!
D C still is clueless......they don’t know that we don’t believe a single thing they say : )
Just more blindâem with Bullshit from the Jorge adminstration, circle the wagons and fire inwards. What a bunch of losers.
“A week after unveiling a major crackdown on businesses that hire illegal immigrants, the Bush administration is now conceding that its most heavily touted weapon in pursuing employers - an assault against Social Security fraud - will be nearly useless.” From the San Jose Mercury News:
I’ve seen this a few places, but it’s gotten surprisingly little coverage so far. But it seems to say that, oh well, all that cracking down we talked so much about last week, it’s not going to happen.
Typical when it comes to immigration enforcement.
That reads like a bunch of ten year olds, making up the rules of a game as they go.
* It is illegal to use the service to verify SSNs of potential new hires or contractors or in the preparation of tax returns.
“That reads like a bunch of ten year olds, making up the rules of a game as they go.”
Just trying to buffalo us again with the same old con : )
Wouldn’t it be great if we could get a list of the people who are sent these letters ... we know the government isn’t going to follow up but the FReepers would have a ball publishing the list and staying after the problem.
We would have a ball!
jorge bush and his lackey jerk-off chertoff.....ensuring the illegals can continue to invade the US at no peril....
What's coming out of this process is incomprehensible...
“What a bunch of losers.”
Absolutely agree. They either don’t understand what’s happening on the street, or they just don’t care.
“It’s the law!”
Another mile down the road to banana republicdom.
The right hand giveth; the left hand taketh away. Nobody believes Chertoff and the rest of the gang anyway. Business wants open borders. So we’ll have open borders.
