Just a preview of what we’ll face when the perfection-caucus sits home on Election Day and lets the Democrats win.

boy oh boy, i’ve been hearing for years how well the UK was doing and how horrible we were...

I always knew it was a crock.

UK is finished as a Major Power. It’s also finished as a culture.

We surge south. The current British presence is around 5500 troops. Quadruple that with Iraqi augmentation and confront the Iranians directly. Break the local militias if they resist. This is absolutely attainable.

It will have to end up being some kind of "internal" Iraqi surge. Probably have to find somebody up north in the capital to come down on the scrubs in the south. Kind of like "triangulation" where they play the wogs against each other.

Maliki is having his feet put to the fire and rightly so. It would be considerably easier for him to step on the Shi’ites of Basra than it would closer to home in Baghdad. In fact, it may be the opportunity he is looking for. Just a thought.

I would think this would be an excellent opportunity for Britain and America to ambush those who try to attack the British withdrawal. Carpetbombing, the whole enchilada.

They may have an opportunity to kill hundreds or thousands of terrorists/insurgents in a single blow.

If the USMC or the army has to take over the British mandate in Basra. The Shiites will be begging for the British to come back. This may bite Iran in the arse having thousands of battlehearded GI’s at their doorstep is not what they have in mind.

Indeed! God bless the British soldiers who have again served gallantly in Iraq as did their forefathers before them. And God bless the Poles, still there, but who seldom get credit for it.

In this land where I believe “handwriting on the wall” first appeared, there will be no easy departure.

This sounds like a trap we’re setting for an overconfident Mahdi Army backed by an overconfident Iran.

As the Brits withdraw, it’ll lure out the undesirables...making them easy pickins’ for U.S. forces.

Well, they can’t stay there forever. Might as well pull out and see what happens.

Basra has long been one of the tamer locales in Iraq. It’s fate should give us some indication as to the readiness of the Iraqis to govern and police themselves.

Dunkirk II? ............ If it ever gets to that point, hopefully they won’t leave their equipment behind. Besides, it won’t happen, they aren’t fighting panzer divisions.

Perhaps Peshmerga battalions from the Kurdish north, with US air cover and SOF support. While they and the JAM are whacking each other, the Brits start their retrograde move.

Regards,

You’re right. The British troops deserve better leadership than what they have.

lol seems the same idiots are believing the same tripe.

In case you hadn’t noticed - we’re still there. These nonsense stories have been out for some many years now and yet you people still pipe up with your Brit bashing each and every time.

Our troops are as well funded as your own, they are as well managed and treated as your own and they are not leaving the battle field with the fight still going on.

Nobody ever planned on being there forever - the plan is to get the iraqis into a position where they can look after themselves. They are certainly getting there which is whyu we have allowed them in some areas to take over command.

As for the person saying we’re switching roles with france - do going and do yourself a bit of research.

What exactly is Mr bug europe love sarko done for you? NOTHING

He’s had a nice little holiday in America and shared a burger with bush.

On the other hand - he’s offered no troops, his forces do next to nothing in Afghanistan while ours are being killed fighting, and his domestic policy involved appointing a socialist to his cabinet in a senior role.

Get a grip people - it us Brits that have been sholder to sholder with you in this war and all the other wars and no doubt the coming struggles we face.

A few lousy articles really shouldn’t put that in any doubt - only for some, while attacking left wing media on an hourly basis - they’ll happily start believing this crap if the headline sounds good enough.

The hands off policy WAS the right one then.

Not now.

I believe Napoleon, The Kaiser, Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin all said the same...oh and General Galtieri.

As I have already said, the nhands off policy was the right one then(2003-05).Not now, that dosent make us bad soldiers nor negate the earlier tactics.

Anymore than Vietnam or Mogadishu make Americans poor soldiers OR the fact of the surge means US tactics pre this summer were futile or poor.

We are not finished,we just lack will,a western problem as well/
