Hunter is all too quick to mention his son's service, imo. His approach borders on the exploitative.
Romney has enough problems with his record that we don’t really need to look into the military service of his children for more.
That having been said, a commander-in-chief with prior military service is far preferrable in a time of war than a mere businessman.
Is he? I don't know much about him. The point I was making is that he looks presidential. I think Americans are becoming more and more sophisticated at looking beneath the surface of things. At least, I hope so.
But as I said--I'm not at my best right now. Nothing serious. Just morning grogginess.
Maybe you can help me out. What do you think?
did I state that having a child in the military is a requirement for anything ?
having 5 sons and not one going into the military seems strange to us esp. in light of this country being atacked on 911.
Military service was always pushed in this family even before 911...and all that arrived ahead of us enlisted,be it peace times or war.
and no one’s ever gonna run for any political office or base their choice of candidates on that either.
we just find this strange, that among 5-—no one felt strongly enough that America needed help.
Wow, that’s a real slit trench!
But, seriously, Pottawattamie County can be such a war zone!

Or since Hillary is now against the war she once voted for, would she talk Chelsea out of enlisting?
The proper answer, for any candidate (although it's never asked of RATS) is, "my children are adults, go ask them yourself. I also support the police and fire department. You might ask them why they're not police or firefighters, too."
America has a tiny (made even smaller by BJ Clinton) but highly professional military. Only the qualified, and motivated, need apply. To not volunteer is not a mark of shame, any more than not volunteer to be a cop, firefighter, or paramedic. These are special callings for special people.

No disrespect at all. Just a poor choice in a word.
Been there, done that! And I’ll do it again! :)
If we followed your line of thought, all of them would have served.
I think its valuable to have a commander in chief who can look the American people in the eye and say, Were all in this together, said Mr. Hunter, who is a Vietnam veteran.
If nothing else, it might give Mr. Hunter some more credibility with the American people. His son's directly involved in our fight, too. Duncan Hunter himself served honorably, in the 75th Rangers no less. And according to wikipedia, he enlisted (as opposed to being drafted).

Ok. Mitt is not my first or second choice (maybe third choice) but I am sick of this nonsense. Did Fred Thompson’s kids join the military? What about Rudy’s? I believe that John McCain does have a son in the military so I guess if we use your lousey reason for electing a president than:
JOHN MCCAIN WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT
OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
I hope this shows your post is just dumb.
Didn’t work for Jimmuh!!!
Excerpt:
Senator John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, by contrast, goes out of his way to avoid talking publicly about his son Jimmy, a marine who was recently deployed to Iraq. Mr. McCain has another son, Jack, who is at the United States Naval Academy.
Shortly before leaving for Iraq, Jimmy McCain spent a few days last month on the campaign trail in New Hampshire with his father. He stayed in the background at events, even when Mr. McCain gave a big speech laying out his reasons for continuing to support the current strategy in Iraq.
The one time Jimmy McCains name came up was at the last stop of the trip. There, at American Legion Post 29 in Claremont, N.H., one of the veterans who gathered for a public forum drew a big round of applause for praising Jimmy McCains service.
Apparently unbeknown to the questioner, Mr. McCains son was sitting just a few seats away. But Mr. McCain did not introduce him to the crowd.
But McCain has also been endorsed by the LCR. So, my post 47 applies to him too.

I have four sons.
I certainly would have been proud and encouraged them if any of them to join any branch of our great military
Three of them would have served under that SOB TRAITOR Bill Clinton, so I can't half blame them for not being too ready to join
I wish the nyslimes would ask about obamas muslim past or hillary lying about where chelsea was on 9-11 but then again it is the nytimes.
I’ve been serving in the Army for 5 years now. I plan on making it a career. However, as long as an American is being a productive member of society (productive being the key word), then no one should question whether or not they should join the military. It’s not for everybody. Quite frankly, if a lot of these politicians’ children were to enlist, it may actually degrade the military’s quality.
Still, it is disturbing that children of the elite are shunning the military. In any war, we need the attitude that we're all in this together. When the people sending other people's kids off to die are not sending their own, this will inevitably breed resentment.
