YouTube row over social services baby threat
The Telegraph ^ | 19 August 2007 | Ben Leapman

Posted on 08/19/2007 2:18:07 PM PDT by burzum

A heavily pregnant woman is at the centre of an extraordinary legal battle with social workers after she secretly recorded them threatening to take away her newborn baby.

Vanessa Brookes, 34, who is due to give birth early next month, smuggled taping equipment into a meeting with social services officials, fearing they would try to take her baby for forced adoption.

She recorded a social worker telling her and her husband Martin, 41, that even though there was "no immediate risk to your child from yourselves", the council would seek a court order to place the child in foster care.

Mother and baby would be allowed "two or three days" in hospital together, but should not leave the premises until social workers came to remove the infant. In a desperate attempt to keep their baby, the couple have published the recorded conversation on the internet.

Calderdale council, in West Yorkshire, last night accused them of breaching the Data Protection Act by recording its staff without their knowledge or consent. The council said it had begun legal action to have the recording removed from the YouTube website. Mrs Brookes said: "Even puppies and kittens aren't removed from their mothers at birth. Social workers always record everything, so why shouldn't we record them?"

....

Social services took an interest in the Brookes family after Mrs Brookes, who is partially-sighted, was diagnosed with depression and a personality disorder, leading to concerns that her baby might be subjected to "emotional abuse". Neighbours have complained that the couple's household was disorderly, but neither has been accused of abusing or harming a child.

Oh yes, Big Brother doesn't like to endure the scrutiny of the mere public, does he? ;)

Fear anyone who says that children are the property of the state.

These “social service” bureaucrats can generally put whatever they want in a “report”. Guess they don’t much like someone documenting their own side of the story. C.S. Lewis warned that people like this would do more to destroy us than any accountable, elected person would even dare to try.

25 years down the line we will see if the baby’s baby is taken away because a computer database says that there was hearsay that the grandmother’s house was disorderly.

I’ll be damned if they’d get my baby!! I’d flee, I’d do whatever I had to do to keep my child.

My husband, an MSW who trains social workers, calls this “Speculative abuse.” This (in theory) happens in the US *ONLY* if a previous child has been removed because of documented abuse and/or neglect.

He does, however, feel the day is coming when children will be removed from Christian homes. I don’t think I need to list the reasons why.

Guess they would have had to take Abraham Lincoln’s children away then, since his wife was eccentric and Lincoln was allegedly prone to depression.

CPS is worse than the IRS. They not only destroy your finaces, but they destroy your family. Their power is incredible. Even if they are wrong, you are likely to lose your children for months and even years until it is ironed out.

I’ve known more people abused by CPS than I have known helped by them. That’s saying a lot.

An issue of a state asset (you) is automatically a state asset and as such, would be the state’s baby and not yours; the abolishment of slavery has already settled the legal basis for the “ownership” of one human by another.

However, the state has both a duty and an obligation to each of its denizens and such responsibility conveys the same authority of care and diligence as would be found for any other form of state property.

Do you have a source for that?
Was it in one of his books?
I'd like to read it.
Thanks

Me too, and I can’t believe the superficiality of women who would vote for her because she’s a woman and they think it would be “oh so progressive”.

I had a custody case which had a volunteer evaluator. She arranged to meet my client at a Starbucks. I showed up unexpected. At first she said I couldn’t be there. Oh, but the best part, we saw her outside in the parking lot talking into her purse, then listening, then coming in. She placed this purse in the middle of the table. I asked whether she was recording the meeting and she said “no.” Later, I asked her under oath and she still said “no” but I don’t think that the judge believed her and oh, even better, she wouldn’t take the oath, she would only affirm. And this from someone who had been a cloistered nun for 14 years before leaving the convent and getting a bachelors in psychology. Poor thing, it was her first case and I toasted her. She totally loved the mom and believed everything mom said. We proved mom was nuts and got sole custody for the dad.

God bless Vanessa Brookes and her brilliant expose on the Internet! The hideous bureaucracies of the UK and the USA employ vast numbers of these social worker petty tyrant/thugs.

Shine the light of day on these monsters!

I left a comment on You Tube saying the mother should raise the child as a Muslim and the govt would then leave her alone.

Stories like this remind me of Lebensborn.

The really sad thing is sometimes I pick up my newspaper to see pictures of beautiful foster children who were beaten to death by people who would never be allowed to adopt dogs.

The file has been deleted by Google’s YouTube, but it was already
uploaded to dozens of servers around the world. Here’s one, based in
the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus:

(*.flv file - can be downloaded with Firefox and probably other
browsers, and played on various flash video players.)
