Feminists' Hot Air
New York Post ^ | August 20, 2007 | Carrie Lukas

TO thunderous acclaim from the liberal intelligentsia, a team of feminist icons - including Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda - last year launched a women-run radio network. The mainstream media dutifully parroted press releases describing the launch as a "breakthrough" for women in the male-dominated world of talk radio.

The Boston Globe, for example, proclaimed that "GreenStone gives women an outlet." Business Week described the venture as "Talk Radio Minus The Testosterone."

Last Friday, GreenStone Media signed off for good. Why did this effort fail?

Great piece on the latest flop by liberal radio "pioneers". Laura Ingraham opened her show quoting this and discussing the implications. I hope Rush gives it some time and attention.

but also included programming that was downright girly. Morning show segments included "Mean Mommy," with advice for mothers, and "What's up with Guys," providing insights into the elusive male brain.

What a farce. The elusive male brain? Men are easy to understand, folks. It's the female brain that man has no chance of decoding.

Like women need another way to talk :D (I’m a woman, is it OK if I say that?)

They don’t need a network. They’ve already got one. It’s called NPR.

Geez.

GreenStone gave credence to the notion feminists are liberals with the X chromosome. There's not much difference between a male and a female liberal. They both support abortion.

GreenStone offered the typical liberal fare - boasting of interviews with Ralph Nader and Alec Baldwin - but also included programming that was downright girly. Morning show segments included "Mean Mommy," with advice for mothers, and "What's up with Guys," providing insights into the elusive male brain. GreenStone's problem was it couldn't attract an audience of either gender. The programming was picked up by only eight affiliates in small to mid-sized markets. Apparently, GreenStone's programming wasn't the talk that women really want.

GreenStone's president and CEO Susan Ness laments the end of its programming as a loss for women, opining that "women need a voice on commercial radio," and "radio needs women's voices." Perhaps Ness should use her time off to tune in to other stations. She'll find there are many prominent women on the airwaves; they're just not saying what she thinks they should.

GreenStone Media's brand of tepid liberalism didn't appeal to women. This isn't a tragedy for women; it's the market at work. Women will continue to listen to the radio and women talk-show hosts will continue to compete to earn their interest.

Whatever happened to Algore TV? And why isn’t he broadcasting his tirades from that network?

But apparently not GreenStone's voice! I remember the announcement of the launch of this effort, but that's all I ever heard till the announcement of its demise last week.

This radio program failed due to a lack of a federal government mandate requiring people to listen and support it.

providing insights into the elusive male brain

HAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahaha....

Wife gets a magazine - Redbook, or something like that. In between the recipes and ads for feminine hygene products, there's always an article or two on "What YOUR man wants".

Written for women, by women. How the h*ll do they know what I want?

And, why waste pages of typeface on it. Mostly, I'd say that men want "To be Left Alone." A more pithy comment would be "Control of the TV remote." or for women to "Show up naked and bring beer."

>>Last Friday, GreenStone Media signed off for good.

I believe a grand total of about 8 stations had this network.
Three I knew of:

—AM 1300 in the Albany area, I heard, went back to
ESPN Sports

—Unsure what WTWK in Plattsburgh NY will do. They
were Air America before they took on the female
talk network. Great.

—WNSH in Beverly, which hasn’t updated their site yet,
is plugging other talkers in. They DO have some conservative talkers like Laura Ingraham, Mike Reagan, and Jerry
Doyle on. It was funny to see their site say “radio
for women, by women” yet they were running all male
hosts from 6 pm to 6 am.

Actually I really enjoyed feminist radio. I loved their reviews of next years models of sponges, mops and brooms!

“What YOUR man wants”.

How about, STOP TALKING during sports and war movies that I am currently watching on TV.

How about open the beer that you bring to me.

Why did this effort fail?

Because liberal pretensions are nothing more than mass delusions -- "The Emperor's Clothes" writ large. Nobody listened. Nobody WANTED to listen. What do Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda have to say to today's generation of girls? Their rhetoric is as tired as they are, but, unlike their flesh, their rhetoric doesn't benefit from surgical renovation.

"Feminism" is a played-out wedge issue, much as race is. It was a useful tool for the divisive Left half a century ago, but it has no power left, largely because it's been drained of its moral authority by its so-called "champions" -- people like Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda and, in the case of race, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

Put a fork in it.

It wound up on 8 tiny signals...WTWK 1070 in Plattsburgh NY,
serving the Burlington VT area across the lake as well,
had a weak daytime only signal. They got rid of AAR to
put women’s talk on—what next? (Maybe syndicated oldies,
radio Disney, who knows—not much of a signal to worry over)

WNSH in Beverly MA also has a rather limited signal and
is mostly programmed via a computer and a satellite dish.

Note what the article said: some female talk hosts
are quite popular, thank you, like Laura Ingraham and
Dr. Laura, and many women DO listen to male hosts like
Rush and Hannity. Er, notice a trend here? Conservative
talk, not “tepid liberalism”.

Who would have thought that a network designed by and for bitter, old, behind-the-times feminist women wouldn’t catch on?

Today’s guest will be Cindy Sheehan on why men are brutal, fascist war-mongering killers . . .

Stay tuned after that uplifing segment. We will discuss why it is never too late to give up men and find a nice girl.

And finally, Cynthia our anchor has found a man and will be leaving the network. Good luck to you Cynthia in the Connecticut suburbs! The office pool says, with your attitude, you’ll be back in no time and will host a show on raising children alone.
