Rep. Bob Filner Charged With Assault on Virginia Airport Worker

WASHINGTON —
California Rep. Bob Filner was facing charges Monday for allegedly assaulting an airline worker at Dulles International Airport after becoming upset that his luggage had not arrived at a baggage carousel.
Filner, 64, is slated to appear in Loudoun County, Va., General District Court on Oct. 2. Court officials could not say whether the San Diego Democrat had been served the summons yet to show up on that date. Filner's office passed all inquiries directly to the congressman, who has yet to respond.
According to law enforcement officials, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority police were called to the United Airlines baggage claim office at about 6 p.m. Sunday evening for a report of an incident with a passenger regarding his baggage.
"The individual allegedly attempted to enter an area authorized for airline employees only, pushed aside the employees outstretched arm and refused to leave the area when asked by an airline employee," according to airport police.
"When MWAA officers arrived a few minutes later, the man had left the office and was waiting in the area of a bag carousel. Officers interviewed him and witnesses and released him. Before the individual left the airport, officers advised him that the airline employee would be pursuing charges," the police statement reads.
The statement says the airport worker filed assault and battery charges, a class 1 misdemeanor.

san diego county is mostly conservative—
due to camp pendleton and the u.s. navy base in san diego.
filner represents the 51st district, primarily imperial county = agriculutural, and heavily mexican, and just a bit of san diego’s south county. his is all u.s. border.
duncan hunter represents the 52nd, immediate to filner’s but radiates from san diego across san diego county to the northeast, across the cleveland national forest (no forest), more money, more conservative, mountainous.
Must not have recognized him as a congressman...

He was only testing the security at the airport...and was, um, planning to report the results of his survey...to um a committee of Congress...yeah, that’s the ticket! For protecting the Country, no less...yeah, that sounds about right!

Filner is sole client of spouse's unregistered consulting business

U.S. Rep. Bob Filner has paid at least $505,000 in campaign funds to his wife for political consulting services since 1995. For the past five years she has run her unregistered business out of their condominium in Washington, D.C.

Filner has properly reported the payments to his wife's business, called Campaign Resources, on his campaign statements. He also has filed annual financial disclosure reports stating that his wife earns an undisclosed salary as a "self-employed consultant."
