Rep. Bob Filner Charged With Assault on Virginia Airport Worker

Monday , August 20, 2007

WASHINGTON —

California Rep. Bob Filner was facing charges Monday for allegedly assaulting an airline worker at Dulles International Airport after becoming upset that his luggage had not arrived at a baggage carousel.

Filner, 64, is slated to appear in Loudoun County, Va., General District Court on Oct. 2. Court officials could not say whether the San Diego Democrat had been served the summons yet to show up on that date. Filner's office passed all inquiries directly to the congressman, who has yet to respond.

According to law enforcement officials, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority police were called to the United Airlines baggage claim office at about 6 p.m. Sunday evening for a report of an incident with a passenger regarding his baggage.

"The individual allegedly attempted to enter an area authorized for airline employees only, pushed aside the employees outstretched arm and refused to leave the area when asked by an airline employee," according to airport police.

"When MWAA officers arrived a few minutes later, the man had left the office and was waiting in the area of a bag carousel. Officers interviewed him and witnesses and released him. Before the individual left the airport, officers advised him that the airline employee would be pursuing charges," the police statement reads.

The statement says the airport worker filed assault and battery charges, a class 1 misdemeanor.

"The statement says the airport worker filed assault and battery charges, a class 1 misdemeanor."

A misdemeanor in VA?? Drat, I've wasted some golden opportunities. But then, I've got a soon-to-be-ex-son-in-law that is in need of some "career couseling."

Then I'll repent and give thanks that I waited until no witnesses were present....8~)

The eight-term lawmaker faced considerable criticism in the four-candidate Democratic primary last year after a long-time rival accused him of corruption for supporting a Mexican water-treatment company that gave him large contributions. He also has paid his wife more than a half million dollars for campaign consulting, a practice that is legal.

U.S. Rep. Bob Filner has paid at least $505,000 in campaign funds to his wife for political consulting services since 1995. For the past five years she has run her unregistered business out of their condominium in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Rep. Bob Filner
Filner has properly reported the payments to his wife's business, called Campaign Resources, on his campaign statements. He also has filed annual financial disclosure reports stating that his wife earns an undisclosed salary as a "self-employed consultant."

Bob Filner, Democrat, is a registered Socialist just like John Conyers and other members of the "Progressive Caucus."

Unfortunately, only Death herself has a chance of beating Bob for reelection in that district.

Baggage claim wait times at Dulles are awful: 30-45 minutes, and sometimes more than an hour, waiting at the carousel. And that’s after taking 15-20 minutes to get to baggage claim from the outlying terminals on shuttle buses. Filner got treated as every other post-9/11 traveler...like crap. Welcome to the DMV, “Mr. Progressive.” Oh, and you’re a $h!tty congressman, too.

“They didn’t give his party affiliation - must be a Dem.”

Lifetime ACU rating 4.7. That is very liberal. Pelosi is 3.1, Kennedy 2.5 and Kerry 5.6.

Congressmen and Senators really do live in another world. The sense of entitlement some of those people have is astounding.
