If the kids did something wrong they should have been talked to and told to treat girls more respectfully. But to treat them like criminals is excessive. To turn an ethical lapse into a crime exceeds both the bounds of fairness and justice.

In my day some 45 years ago Mr. Kelly (our principal) would have handled this in very short order. The victim and I would have been hauled into his office. He would have found out what the hell happened. If he thought the punishment need not be severe I would have been placed in detention hall for a week. If he thought it needed quick remedial action he would administer three swats with a paddle that was a baseball bat that had been planed down to about 3/4 of an inch in thickness. If he thought the punishment needed to be more severe, the coach would swing the paddle and a call would be made to my home. A call to my home was not good, not good at all.
