One of six men charged with the execution-style killings of three college students in Newark, N.J., said yesterday in Prince George's County District Court that he will fight extradition to New Jersey.
"I want to stay here and fight it," said Rodolfo Godinez, 24, a Nicaraguan national who was arrested Saturday in Oxon Hill.
Judge Leo E. Green Jr. ordered Mr. Godinez held without bail until a hearing Sept. 20.
Mr. Godinez's half-brother Alexander Alfaro, 16, who is being held in the Prince William County jail in Woodbridge, declined to waive extradition yesterday...He will be held pending a court hearing on New Jersey's extradition request...
Four other men have been arrested on charges of killing the three Delaware State University students and wounding a fourth Aug. 4 behind an elementary school wall...
The suspects are charged with three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, four counts of robbery, one charge of conspiracy to rob and two illegal-weapons charges...
Also arrested are Jose Carranza, 28, an illegal alien from Peru; two 15-year-olds; and Melvin Jovel, 18, of Honduras.
Mr. Godinez was 9 in 1992 when he reportedly arrived in the United States. He was ordered deported on May 5, 1993, but it is not known whether he left.
Mr. Godinez was arrested at 16 for a robbery in South Orange, N.J. The charge was reduced to theft, and he was sentenced to 18 months of probation. Three years later, he was arrested in Irvington, N.J., on charges of aggravated assault, robbery and weapons possession.
Records show he was arrested again in April 2003, this time for robbery in Newark. That charge was reduced to theft, and he was again placed on 18 months of probation.

No matter. His 'fight' will last about a week. Then his nasty ass is off to NJ to face a murder rap. With any luck in about 15 years we'll be deporting his corpse back to Nicaragua.

Screw trying any of them. Flog them bloody, give them a salt water washdown and dump them in the Mexican desert. Sorry, but my give-a-damn about treating these criminals humanely is broken.

I was thinking the same thing. Then it occurred to me that PG has the highest percentage of successful black professionals in the DC area. Jury selection would be bad for him there, however judgewize he could only do better in CA. (There is a reason I move out of Maryland).

Agreed. However, if he wins the extradition he may end up being tried in PG, or not being tried at all, which is what he's working towards. I hope he losses the extradition appeal and goes to NJ for trial.

I don’t understand why we would give an illegal alien probation and just let him go. In my opinion, if you are not a legal citizen of the U.S. and you commit a crime you should go from the jail cell to the next available flight back to the shit-hole you came from.....
To: Talking_Mouse
They cannot try him in Maryland for a crime committed in New Jersey. If the Maryland judge does not extradite him to New Jersey, he will be put on an immigration hold and deported.

If the Maryland judge does not extradite him to New Jersey, he will be put on an immigration hold and deported.I'll bet that's what he's hoping for. I don't think the MD judge will be nuts enough to do it, but that's one jurisdiction where it wouldn't suprise me.

I'm surprised that this hasn't been "federalized". The murder was committed in New Jersey and the suspect fled across state lines. The suspect was already a federal criminal by virtue of having violated immigration laws. The feds should take him into custody on the federal violation and relocate him to New Jersey to facilitate the state charges.

That’s 5 years per murder victim and zero for the attempted victim. NOT ENOUGH! But, indeed you are probably close to what he’ll get.
I wish this case would spark some change in NJ, but I’m quite sure it will not.
Our governments continue to put illegal criminals on a pedestal above the rest of us. It is disgusting.

I was thinking federal crime. Which could be tried in MD, due to not getting a fair jury in NJ. You are quite correct that as things now stand if he in not extradited he will be deported. However if he is not extradited, I can not see the federal system letting this go without at least trying for a bite of the apple, due to citizens reactions to the crimes.

Godinez

Carranza

NEWARK, N.J. Authorities have identified a fourth suspect in the execution-style killings of three college students in Newark last weekend, issuing an arrest warrant Saturday for 24-year-old Rodolfo Godinez.
Godinez, a Nicaraguan national who also uses the name Gomez, is considered "a principal player" in the case, Newark Police Director Garry McCarthy told The Star-Ledger of Newark.
Saturday's developments follow a shocking turn in the investigation Friday. On Friday, FOX 5 New York reported that two of the victims may have been sexually assaulted before they were killed by an illegal immigrant with a violent criminal history.
According to FOX 5 New York, a sexual attack may have occurred before Terrance Aeriel, Iofemi Hightower and Dashon Harvey were shot to death, and a fourth victim, 19-year old Natasha Aerial, was critically wounded.
The suspect in the sexual assault, Peruvian national Jose Carranza, is an illegal immigrant previously charged with raping a 5-year-old. Carranza surrendered to Newark Mayor Cory Booker on Thursday and plead not guilty to to three counts of murder and one charge each of attempted murder and robbery in Essex County Superior Court on Friday.
