C.I.A. Details Errors It Made Before Sept. 11 (Jan. 2000 CIA knew of two hijackers)

WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 — A report released Tuesday by the Central Intelligence Agency includes new details of the agency’s missteps before the Sept. 11 attacks, outlining what the report says were failures to grasp the role being played by the terror mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and to fully assess the threats streaming into the C.I.A. in the summer of 2001.

The 19-page report, prepared by the agency’s inspector general, also says that 50 to 60 C.I.A. officers knew of intelligence reports in 2000 that two of the Sept. 11 hijackers, Nawaf al-Hamzi and Khalid al-Mihdhar, may have been in the United States. But none of those officers thought to notify the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the potential domestic threat, the report says — evidence of what it calls a systemic failure.

The inspector general recommended that several top agency officials, including former director George J. Tenet, be held accountable for their failure to put in place a strategy to dismantle Al Qaeda in the years before Sept. 11, 2001. Gen. Michael V. Hayden, the current C.I.A. director, and his predecessor, Porter J. Goss, have declined to seek disciplinary action against Mr. Tenet and others named in the report.

The wall definitely contributed to the risk and actual attack but I have to wonder when the CIA got out of the business of taking care of business before the threats arrive on our soil?

Of course, everything is Bush’s fault. /s

If the media put in the headlines,”Hijackers sent note to President in 2000” almost everyone automatically thinks it’s President Bush because the date fools them and they are programmed to think it’s Bush’s fault. There are still a lot of people who will believe anything and everything the MSM spoon feeds them.

>>>The report cited the C.I.A.’s failure to pass intelligence about Mr. Mihdhar and Mr. Hamzi to other agencies as potentially significant. The C.I.A. had identified the men in January 2000 when they visited Malaysia but never notified the State Department to put them on the terrorist watch list.<<<

The Malaysia terrorist summit is where the planning took place for the USS Cole bombing and 9/11.

Well, the whole report is crap and the CIA’s Inspector General has his head up his arse. The little creep should be fired for his incompetence. His little report does NOT reflect the realities of how it was before 9/11 and now.

Number one, for the departments to work together as they should at the time, some major changes would have to have been made which Bush only was able to make them AFTER 9/11 happened and people finally figured out Gorelick’s wall wasn’t such a hot idea after all.

These agencies still are not talking as they should though better than they once were.

Everyone seems to forget what is still happening even today, after 9/11. You get some Arab guys taking flying lessons and if someone complain, your called a racist. Oh no! We can’t profile. Bad bad bad bad!

Even today every time Bush takes a measure to protect this country and people starts screaming and having hearings and wanting to impeach someone.

So people knew of a couple “possible terrorists” eh? Before 9/11? You drag them in for questioning, then what? You might be able to ask them some questions which they’ll probably have some nice answers I’m sure. But then you’d have to let them go or have the ACLU down around your ears and big arsed articles written in the New York Times talking about civil liberties and racism.

You couldn’t ask them with intent of getting answers or someone will be screaming torture. Just how are these agencies suppose to do their jobs? Hell.... you can’t even listen to their phone calls without a ton of paper work and just how long does these guys phone calls suppose to last before you get every T crossed and every I dotted?

It’s still really bad out there to get anything done and it was worse yet before 9/11. Just what drugs is Helgerson on anyway? What good does it to “be held accountable”? What does THAT mean anyway? What possible good does it do us now? Shouldn’t we be frigging be looking forward and not backwards?

If you really want to hold people “accountable”, you need to go back decades and not just since January 2001. It took decades for these nandy pandy liberals to tear down our defenses to where they were just before 9/11 so it would be so easy to get attacked..... the same that the liberals are working so hard to achieve today. They want it all to be like it was pre-9/11.

The so called “Inspector General” should be relieved of his duties and he should pick up a nice little job at Mcdonalds... but even THEN he’d get your order wrong he’s so inept!

let's face it....the Clinton dictatorship was one of focus groups and schmoozing up and avoiding any hard, adult decisions.....like trailing who planned the first Trade Tower bombings and treating it like an attack rather than just a simple crime....

ah, but the stock market was so great......( except for me I guess)..
