Justice Dept. accused of impeding CAIR
DALLAS, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- The U.S. Justice Department has been accused by the Council on American-Islamic Relations of impeding its operations through a Texas court case.
In a brief filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, CAIR said that being named by the Justice Department as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror case has hurt its regular operations, The Washington Times said Wednesday.
"The public naming of CAIR as an unindicted co-conspirator has impeded its ability to collect donations as possible donors either do not want to give to them because they think they are a 'terrorist' organization or are too scared to give to them because of the possible legal ramifications of donating money to a 'terrorist' organization," the group said.
The Dallas court case against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development has included alleged ties to terrorist groups and CAIR is among 307 named co-conspirators.
The group has asked that its name be removed from the list and the organization's attorney has said the court could approve the motion without holding an official hearing, the Times reported.
“CAIR said that being named by the Justice Department as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror case has hurt its regular operations”
Excellent.
The Justice Department living up to it’s name?!
Awwwhhh gee..., CAIR is but one slippery step away from having its assets seized! I would be fairly certain that their officers and many members are under constant surveillance just waiting for someone to screw-up!
DOJ doing its job for once? Good.
A step in the right direction, but I won’t be happy until the whole lot of them are in Gitmo or dead.
Nothing nicer than hearing that a hate group like CAIR is suffering from the ramifications of being aligned with terror mongers and haters.
(Do you remember those "analogy" questions on the SAT?)
Rubbish.
It can be demonstrated conclusively that the "unindicted co-conspirator" is not only justified, but understated.
It can also be demonstrated beyond question that their membership plummeted starting right after 9-11, years before they were named in the Texas case.
An organization, with less than 2000 members whose constant, strident, whining voice and complaints can, only be kept afloat by foreign governments --- mainly Saudi Arabia. There is something unsettling about that.
We won't even talk about the clear terrorist roots of the original founders of the group, before they invented a "kinder and gentler" name.
Just saying.
And what, may I ask, does this have to do with the Justice Department’s central function of imprisoning border guards and Martha Stewart?
Heads must roll on this one.
Looks like cair took down the link.
They must be disappointed the "Sensitivity Training" didn't go as planned;)

Bout damn time someone impeded these terrorists !
I SURE hope so!!! I hope they are!
Stupid, misleading headline. CAIR is the one doing the accusing, so where is the story here? There isn’t one.
I think that this falls into the tough s#*t category.
They don’t get it yet.
The United States Justice Department is not something you can push around because you think your ideology trumps all.
If I were you, boys, I’d make nice because the Justice Department can get really fussy fast.
BLOODY SAVAGES!!
