Why Liberals Read More Books (Or Why Ann Coulter Will Never Become Book Industry President Alert)
Worldnetdaily.com ^ | 08/24/2007 | Joseph Farah

I am talking about the fact that, according to this poll, there are far more self-identified conservatives in America than self-identified liberals – even among a sampling that included far more Democrats than Republicans! Please, read the raw data for yourself.

First, I want you to try to imagine the book-publishing trade industry selecting Ann Coulter to be its president. I know, I know. It could never happen. It could never happen despite the fact Ann Coulter sells more political books than almost anyone on the American scene. But it could never happen because, despite her tremendous success as a non-fiction author, the publishing industry hates Ann Coulter. But, evidently that same industry loves Patsy Schroeder. Now, what does this tell you?

Ann Coulter is a best-selling author - now try to imagine her as president of the book industry. The liberals would NEVER dream of it. And Pat Schroeder thinks she knows the political views of our country's avid readers. Yeah, right!

Even the book industry publications are pointing out that Schroeder’s comments are stupid. The difference in the “poll” was (I believe) that libs read 9 books a year and conservatives read 8, while moderates read 5. It’s such an insignificant difference that Schroeder just looks stupid saying what she did. As usual.

What the AP did NOT report:

* The sampling included 46 percent Democrats, only 38 percent Republicans;

* The self-identified conservatives represented 36 percent, to 25 percent liberals;

* Strong conservatives numbered 14 percent vs. 6 percent strong liberals.

Stunning figures in a push poll. Even when you have Democrats deliberately oversampled, conservatives STILL outnumber liberals 2-1! No wonder the AP AKA MSM wouldn't report it. Conservatives are far from dead and buried in America.

Oh come on. Comic books account as reading books for liberals?

Pat was able to draw this conclusion simply by basing it on how many people were forced to read ALgores miserable book “An Inconvenient Truth”.

We live in an age of media that goes beyond books. Liberals are always so limited.

You've pushed a button here! I'm a conservative and I like reading comic books. Not as much as I use to because today, they are filled with left wing views. However, I grew up in the 60's reading Captain America kicking the Red Skull's arse all the while explaining that idiots like the Skull mistake kindness and forgiveness as a weakness and promoting American values.

Thinking it over, maybe you are right - the left does read too many comic books - the comic books of today!

Stalin’s works were not that benign.
I read about 30 books a year, about half novels and half history, politics and other nonfiction.

I see far to many grown men, men in their 30’s reading comic books on the train. Just a little strange to me.

Probalbly fiction and new age dynamics or buying and selling or comic books. No way history or math or science or the Holy Bible would be their choice.

Dems can’t read and sure can’t count to 9. Not if they are products of their gov’t schools.

My point is that although I must have heard of Schroeder as a candidate, there was nothing about her that stuck in my memory. Unlike, say, Al Gore she didn't even seem to be a fool, just a nonentity. I find that happening a lot.

Somone needs to tell Patsy that:

The “Adventures of Superman” do not count (just becasue they are comic BOOKS) doensn’t mean they are books.
That reading more than one “Archie” comic book doesn’t count as more than one book.
And that looking up Pizza shops in the local phone book does not count as “reading a book”

I question the results of that poll.

However, I will concede that at least some liberals read a lot. I work around them all day and they do read a lot of books. Mainly popular current fiction bestsellers, but they read a ton of anti-Bush, pro-feminist, or environmentalist whacko books as well.

So I’m willing to believe that some liberals read a lot. But it’s also pretty obvious that many liberals are functionally illiterate. Democrat candidates tend to sweep precincts where high school dropouts are the norm among voters. That would have to drag the liberal book-reading average down quite a bit.

Most conservatives I know read quite a bit, probably somewhere between the upscale, college educated liberals (who read a lot) and downscale, functionally illiterate liberals (who don’t read books at all). These conservatives are quite intelligent, but they don’t have the same amount of leisure time as liberals in the same educational/income bracket. Conservatives are more likely to have kids, who obviously take up a lot of their parents’ free time. Conservatives are more likely to do their own lawn work or laundry (libs live in condos and have maids). Conservatives tend to work in private enterprise, where there’s less “goof off” time and there’s incentive for working overtime or taking office work home. Educated libs are often housed in academia or other government employment where there’s obviously more free time.

There seems to be an on-going effort on the part of the left to claim that liberals are smarter and/or more educated than conservatives. It isn’t true, of course, but liberals wallow in narcissism. If liberals are really so much smarter, why are they so adamant about abolishing literacy requirements for voting, and why are they even trying to extend the vote to felons, whom one would assume aren’t the best and the brightest our society has to offer?

The sampling included 46 percent Democrats, only 38 percent Republicans;

* The self-identified conservatives represented 36 percent, to 25 percent liberals;

* Strong conservatives numbered 14 percent vs. 6 percent strong liberals.

The obvious answer is that the missing percentages identified themselves as communist-progressives.

I just finished Churchill’s six volume set “The Second World War.” It was great. I also like ancient history and nonfiction like Michael Crichton, Ken Follet, and recently Greg Isles.

I would not call the non-educated dems that get bused to the polls "liberals" I doubt that is their philosophy so much as they are promised handouts from the "leftists" so that's where they cast their votes.

Similar to today's modern "progressives" as they like to call themselves, they are neither liberal or progressive, they're simply leftsist, socialists/marxists trying to cloak their true identities with benign sounding labels.

Liberal numbers are boosted by all the romance fiction the single women read...

And don’t forget - liberals lie!

So a more interesting survey would check on how many non-fiction books are purchased each year by liberals. Even if you include Algore’s tripe as non-fiction, the numbers wouldn’t be very high.

“We live in an age of media that goes beyond books. Liberals are always so limited.”

Well, you are right, somewhat. But I do believe it is a age thing as well. A previous post mentioned libs and comic books. That is not far off. My son is a lib on most issues (but not all, he is a vet), one of his major hobbies is collecting and translating Japanese comics (he has degrees in Japanese & Korean). While he is educated, he reads very little that is not directly related to his interests. And he reads nothing political while constantly deriding every single book I read on politics....and I read them all. On second thought, while I do love him, when it comes to politics he is about 75% a**hat. LOL!

The New York Times bans the Bible as well as the Harry Potter from its bestseller list. How much do you want to wager that reading the Bible didn't count when these yahoos decided that liberals read more than conservatives.

How's this for the title of Ann Coulter's latest book:

IF DEMOCRATS HAD ANY BRAINS, THEY'D BE REPUBLICANS

No kidding, that's the title! (LOL!)

Truth is, the Dem leadership in Congress these days does have some brains, but they use whatever smarts they have to lie to and rob the American people, do social engineering, and make the country more vulnerable to terrorist attack.

I probably read about 30 books a year, also, maybe more. I don’t keep track.

I am reading Ivan Turgenev’s Fathers and Sons, right now. It amazes me how little has changed in regard to liberals. Liberals are still the arrogant elitist fools that they were in 1860. I thought that the original liberal supported the little people, the peasants, but the liberal attitude was just the same then, as now. Liberal thought that the peasants were incapable of making their own decisions.
