Military veterans are ready to salute Rudy Giuliani as their next commander-in-chief - but treat Hillary Rodham Clinton like a private.
Giuliani is the most popular presidential candidate among vets and Clinton is the most unpopular, according to a Gallup poll released yesterday.
Giuliani - a supporter of the Iraq war who obtained an occupational deferment during Vietnam - was viewed favorably by 64 percent of veterans. Only 29 percent disliked him.
By comparison, 59 percent of vets gave Clinton an unfavorable rating. Only 37 percent gave her a thumbs-up, giving her the poorest overall rating.
The Gallup survey suggested that a gender gap hurts Clinton, the only woman in the race.
"Hillary Clinton is the only candidate who is viewed much more negatively than positively by veterans. Clinton would seem to be at a decided disadvantage among veterans, given that roughly 9 in 10 in the sample are men," said Gallup managing editor Jeff Jones.
Giuliani's 64 percent approval rating among vets exceeded that of John McCain - a decorated Vietnam POW - who was viewed favorably by 52 percent of his comrades and unfavorably by 40 percent.
"It's another sign that the mayor's message of staying on offense in the terrorists' war on us is resonating," said Giuliani campaign spokeswoman Maria Comella.
While popular among all vets, Giuliani faces a tough battle for the military vote in a Republican primary. He gets 28 percent of the vote, compared to 25 percent for unannounced candidate Fred Thompson.
The results are troubling for McCain, the only veteran among the top-tier candidates. Only 13 percent of the Republican vets support his candidacy - tied for third with Mitt Romney.

Not this vet, that’s for damn sure. Enough on that topic. Clinton is not even an issue, she will never be President
I’m surprised any vet approves of her - the ones who do approve must have hated being in the service.
How the hell can 38% of Vets be for Hillary?
The MSM is out in force to see to a Rudy nomination. That tells me something...and it’s not nice.
Giuliani won’t win the nomination and in the event it’s fixed so he does he will most certainly not win the presidency.
You are closer to the truth than Gallup....In fact
Gallup should get on his horse and get the hell out
of Dodge..ar anyplace else..he is a liberal poll
vaulter..JK
His daughter and I were married for almost 35 years before he died and I was never able to move him from a single one of his opinions about politics. And believe me, I tried.
The toons’ administration treated our Military like sh*t...she was a big part of that...they burned that bridge long ago....they’ll not support her ever...she’ll just grow old as a lousy senator.....
The neocon New York Post, of course, doesn’t mention that Ron Paul has far more military contributions than El Duce Rudy.
................................................
?????????????????????????????????
You and Ron Paul have fun.
Sharpton had a better chance.
Have a nice day,

Yet Ron Paul leads them all in donations from military personnel (active and vets).
I’ll have to go some research.
LOL.... excellent one Mike, specially the signature :)
I’ve faced the same frustration with my Mother and my Mother-in-Law. Both are elderly Yellow Dog Democrats. Ironically, both consider themselves well informed, but their only sources of information are the liberally slanted TV alphabet channels and the newspaper.
Both tend to ignore facts and logical arguments counter to their own beliefs. They hear what they want to hear. They think they are still voting for Harry Truman. Basically, I decided years ago that it is a total waste of time to bring up politics in their presence.
They know that he can be blown out of the water once he gets the nomination. Of course, if Ron Paul got as much ink as Rudy, he'd be a major threat to both parties, so even though he leads in military support, we won't see the MSM reporting that. It takes bloggers to do that.
Actually, Michael Barone has reported Ron Paul’s support among the military, and Fox News did a brief segment on it.
Ron Paul is persona non grata with me.
Rudy can slay the Gorgon..
Thanks for the laugh!
Keep laughing. Despite the fact the MSM have ignored Paul, he is already up to 3 percent in both the Gallup and Fox polls, putting him of Hunter, Brownback, and tied with Huckabee (who benefited from much media hype). What other candidate can claim this accomplisment?
While I like Rudy’s stances on military and national defense issues,I would think that our Vets would see that any Pub is more trustworthy in protecting our national security than any Dem. Clintonistas are just the ones so out in the public view since the MSM pushes their 8 years as one of peace, love, and jobs. All baloney but many mush headed voters seem to believe that and yearn for Hil as a commander perhaps like Catherine the Great of Russia! Since national security is the first priority of a Prez, I trust Rudy. I trust not one Dem.
I noticed that you didn’t bother to address the facts outlined in the link. Have fun supporting a candidate who has even alienated his own family. Rudy makes Clinton look like Jim Anderson by comparison.
“I trust Rudy. I trust not one Dem.”
I agree. Though I might trust Joe Lieberman on matters of national defense.
Rudy’s Army is late to the table.
Hunter’s Rangers salute you with the bird
These Like or DisLike polls are unless and will have little effect on election day.
Hope this veterans approve of gays in the military...That’s likely what they will end up getting with RINO Rudy in White House.

Online Presidential Debate 1.2 “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”
by Bryan Barton
When the media uses polls as news to write articles the best bet is to disregard the story.
He’s a wingnut.
It’s vital that we realize this fact. They probably have all sorts of dirt on him that they will not release until he’s become the nominee. They want Hillary and will soft pedal any bad news about her while making much out of any bad news about Rudy. I know that all of them have baggage, but I would think he has more than any other. Newt has a lot, but but I really suspect there’s stories out there about Rudy that would come out late in the election process and be very hard to counter close to the election.
I hate it that I have become so suspicious and such a skeptic at this point in my life, but those MSM are not our friends and in fact are the enemy. If they appear to be for someone I’m convinced I need to be against that someone!
I like Rudy and I think he has a lot to offer, but I fear his nomination would bring lots of problems. That having been said, let me hasten to add that I will be supporting whomever is our nominee. We are doomed if we go trying to send a message to anyone this next election. The only message has got to be that we will not tolerate another Clinton.
I would think a lot of Vets would be for Duncan Hunter since he is one of them.
And.....? Since you are a freeper, you and I are too according to the consensus of most non-freepers.
Now....if you'd like to move beyond sound-bite name calling and discuss issues, I'm game.
I thought Ron Paul was supposed to be the most popular candidate with veterans. ;-)
LOL! I know that — but I’m not the one spinning that silly information as if it actually means anything. YOU guys are — or you wouldn’t have even brought it up. “I don’t think there is any way to try to measure veteran support from fundraising reports.” No kidding! Yet you guys show up on a thread about a report that DOES measure veteran support with that as a response! Why do you constantly go back to that well, when you know it means nothing?
She will if we sit back and do nothing.
Yep. Daily KOS and DU seem to be quite enamored of him, as do other anti-war activists.
The Paulies never fail to get their moonbat wings fluttering on any thread that has an opportunity for them to get a little RP worship in.
As a former editor of two newspapers, I would urge you not to feel bad about your suspicion and skepticism...they are well placed. Unfortunately, the neocon publications aren't going to open any investigations on Mayor Giuliani, and there aren't any decent conservative publications out there with sufficient clout to vet his past now, prior to the nomination. :-(
So, we get Rope-A-Doped.
Thanks for pointing out that civilian employees of the military would be included, but note that the vast majority of civilian "defense employees" are employed by a defense contractor, not by the military. And those Civil Service employees in the Defense Department were counted separately (as were employers like the US Naval Research Lab). [BTW, don't you love the listing for "SELF-UNEMPLOYED"?] :-)
I find it very believable that the military is very supportive of Ron Paul, based on my own dealings with military personnel. They recognize his support for the military and for the Constitution for which they fight.
But I know that many FReepers figure that the military contributions are small peanuts compared to big business and all, so I suppose we'll hear the "Ron Paul doesn't stand a chance because he doesn't sell out enough" and "who cares what the military thinks, since they don't give much money..." crowd come up with ways to disguise these messages.
