Pro-life rock stars 'duped' by Amnesty
WorldNetDaily ^ | 8/26/07 | WorldNetDaily

Amnesty International, which formally announced two weeks ago a new worldwide policy backing women's right to abortion in some cases, is being charged with having "duped" pro-life pop stars who contributed their time and talents to a CD released to raise money by the anti-torture group for victims of violence in Darfur.

"The human suffering going on right now in Darfur is horrific," said Erik Whittington, American Life League's youth outreach director and director of Rock for Life, an organization of anti-abortion musicians.

"To add insult to injury, however, using this tragic abuse of human rights to raise money for a pro-abortion organization is hypocritical and beyond belief," he said.

In particular, Whittington accused Amnesty of deceiving singers Christina Aguilera and Avril Lavigne, who have both made statements against abortion, according to the London Sunday Times.

I'm a little surprised too but I have to admit, I have never heard of Avril Lavigne. I'm old though, maybe that explains it.

I never really DESPISED Avril...she always seemed harmless enough.

Christina’s another story...until now.
Maybe she’s growing up afterall.

She’s a younger, American version of Alanis Morissette - only not so edgy (same type of vocals though)
Think “skater girl”.

Avril Lavigne is a Canadian “rock” singer:

I would rather have guessed her to be a typical liberal teeny starlet... but hey what do I know.

I’ve never cared for the music of Christina Aguilera and Avril Lavigne; however, they don’t seem to be as ill-behaved and immature as Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, etc.

The only thing I really know about Ms. Lavigne is that she wears way too much eye makeup. Saw a video of her recently — looked like someone punched her in the eyes. But from that brief clip, she sounded ok.

If those artists were duped then let them speak for themselves. I don’t really care for Amnesty International and their hypocrisy when it comes to Israel, but with regards to abortion IIRC is stating that women should have a right to an abortion for some cases like rape and her health(and maybe more). I see nothing wrong with this at all.

She sounds great in her recordings. She sounds like doggy doo when performing live.

And anyway, it is very surprising to hear that both of the girls (who happen to have a trampy public persona) mentioned in the article above are pro-life. What is this world coming to?

That tells me she's actually playing the song and not lip-synching it (as way too many other young artists do these days).

I didn’t know Christina Aguillera was pro-life. I did a search on her lyrics and she left the Christ in Christmas in her Christmas album:

Traditional
Glo-glo-glo-gloria
Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plain
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains
Glo-glo-glo-gloria, in excelsis Deo
Ooh, no, yeah yeah
Shepards, why this jubilee
Why your joyous song prolongLyric provided by http://www.SortMusic.com What the gladsome tidings be, ohh
That inspire your heavenly song
Glo-glo-glo-gloria, in excelsis Deo
Oh oh oh, ooh oh, oh yeah
Ohh, come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing, oh
Come on adore on bended knee
Christ, the Lord, our new-born King
Glo-glo-glo-gloria, in excelsis Deo, oh yeah
Eric Dawkins:
On the day, that Christ was bornLyric provided by http://www.SortMusic.com The angels sang such a heavenly song
In excelsis Deo, ohh
Angels we have heard on high
Angels we have heard on high
Angels we have heard on high

In excelsis Deo

Amnesty International has totally accepted the leftist culture of death.

Amnesty has said that abortion should be decriminalized in cases where a pregnancy caused by rape endangers the lie or health of the mother. You're free to disagree, of course, but best to disagree with a position they've actually taken.

It's also worth noting that neither Levigne nor Aguilera have made any statement about being "duped." That was a judgment made for them by the "Rock for Life" spokesman. In fact, the story includes a quote from Levigne's spokesman taking issue with the claim.

In other words, a typical World Net Daily "news" story. Remember, if you can read the beginning of any WND story withoug becoming outraged, it makes a WND editor cry.

“Can you define edgy?”

I’m not sure of the official definition.
I would guess it refers to someone who is racier - more provocative -even more vulgar.

I’m thinking of Alanis’s dropping the f-bomb. Singing about her love affair with her manager when she was only 13.
Hence - the heaploads of anger in much of her music.

Avril’s voice sounds similar to Alanis - but the songs themselves are cotton candy in comparison.
