As a Southerner , born and raised , who lived in New England for 20 years, and has now returned to the South, Fred Thompson’s folksy ways, will not win him points in a national election. Being from Tennessee , and and born in Shelby, Alabama , and having been around Tinsel Town for a while, Fred Thompson knows it. I don’t think Al Gore being from Tennessee helped him, he did not even carry his own state. When it comes down to it, it is going to be about the issues, and who can best do the job.

Fred was right in that voters don't want to hear about a 30 point plan. They want to hear from a leader who has a positive vision of our future, despite our problems.

AMEN!

Perhaps I’m not explaining myself well, or perhaps you want something different than I want. Fred’s speeches and interviews are different than other candidates, and I like the difference. He’s trying to get something done and saying things that other candidates don’t say. He’s explaining things better than others because he is laying out the principles. That is different and better.

I find Huckabee to be likeable, and some things he’s done I appreciate. He gives a good speech, but he left me flat. So did Romney.

Reagan said something that no one else would have said “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.” It showed his character and convictions. IIRC most of his advisers told him not to say that, but his words were powerful. Look what happened! I don’t think for a minute that the wall came down because of Bush #41, I think it was Reagan and his courage and conviction and his words.

I see this in Fred, in giving us substance that we really need, in a way we can understand. He needed to get Republican leaders to come along and help. No one person could do what needs to be done. I found Fred’s speech inspiring because of the substance and ideas. Like I felt about Reagan.

Fred gets it, most of the other candidates get some things but not as many things as Fred gets. It is easy to turn off the others no matter their speechmaking skills.

I know one person’s opinion is only valid for that one person, both you and I. Your opinion is interesting. I want substance, not style. Huckabee and Romney were more about the style.

Fred is doing things differently than other candidates. I hear his speeches and believe he deserves to be the next President. I hear some of the others and think there is a talented bureaucrat.

Things are different this year than they often are with the changed dates for caucuses and primaries. The candidates are different than any other year. The Republicans are all better [except Ron Paul] than any of the Democrats. But the Democrats are without talents and abilities except to do anything for power. Hillary. Cannot compare her to any other candidate in any other year because she is so ruthless. Same old mediocrity isn’t going to work.

Freepers say so often they don’t want big government spending, they want Republicans with courage and convictions. Fred is showing a lot of courage and conviction in running his campaign this way. He’s doing it by what he believes is right, not bending to every wind of opinion.
