I did my Wal-Mart Run on Friday MY next WalMart run will be this coming Friday.....finish up the school supply list (school starts day after Labor day-YIPPEE)
I don't have a problem with this, it's been going on for years with hundredsof thousands of companies.
I do like your point of the companies being an unpaid tax collector for the states, you are so right about that, and it's something I hadn't even considered.
(and you wonder why I consider you my idol)

In other words the state tax collection ADMITS it is legal, it is just not being EQUALLY OPPRESSIVE because walmart can afford to set up the stucture to avoid the taxes.
I see a cottage industry to set this up for smaller businesss.
I hope walmart fights and WINS this one.

It sounds to me as if the fault lies with the WI legislature, which set up the tax laws in such a way to benefit their favorites, i.e. buddies who contribute to their election campaigns. But now that Walmart is taking advantage of those loopholes written into the laws, they're going to take them to the cleaners!
I agree with you, Walmart should just pull out of WI, and set up stores just over the border in friendlier locations.

Good for Wal-Mart. They are following the laws that exist and if they can legally reduce their tax liability, wonderful. Everyone should do whatever they can legally to reduce their tax liability using whatever means the laws allow.
If WI wants to stop this, they need to change the laws. See how popular an issue this is, eh?

looks good to me, but I have to settle for the salt water Striped Bass. I find the meditating while rocking on the waves very spiritual - and downright revival time when landing one.

I’m with you! I get ALL my cleaning supplies at Walmart too. Unless I find them at another store cheaper but that is rare. We are supposed to be getting a Super Walmart soon, even though the town it is going into continues to fight it. When we do, I am sure the bulk of my shopping will be done there. Bottom line is for most people, stretching the dollar as far as you can. There is too much month at the end of the money as it is.

Wonder why the WI libs arent going after them? Because Governor Doyle and the Rats who control the legislature are a bunch of conniving, socialist POSs.

The State needs to do their OWN d@mn tax collecting, not make we business owners (big & small) do all the heavy lifting for them! Have you heard of the "Fair Tax®" initiative? You'll love it!

A representative of Kohl's Corp., Menomonee Falls, which owns department stores across the nation, said it does not use the tactic. A Sears spokesman said it also does not use the strategy. When you stand back and look at what is really going on you can see the difference in these cases: Kohl's and Sears are usually in a mall and rent their space from the mall's owner, while Wally-World builds their own stand-alone buildings and owns them.
The attempted comparison is apples and oranges.

Thanks for the link. I’m still mulling over the Fair Tax issue. I don’t see it gaining much traction around here.
I think it’ll take some sort of economic collapse to get Congress even THINKING about something like this...and I don’t see the Economy going into the toilet in any bug way any time soon. Even if a DemonRat takes over in ‘08.

‘Kohl’s’ was also once the Family Business of Senator Herb Kohl, (D, WI). The Lefty’s will never pester them. He also owns The Milwaukee Bucks (for what that’s worth.) Why not investigate the earnings and sub-enterprises of the NBA?
It’s fine for a Democrat to make money with one hand, while he still has his other hand in the Taxpayers Pocket.
Haven’t you been paying attention to how ‘Economics’ work in ‘Upside Down World?’ Republican-owned businesses are BAD. Democrat-owned businesses are GOOD and are never expected to make a profit of any kind. They’re only in business for the Good of the People. *SMIRK* ;)
