Report: National strategy needed to fight fat

(CNN) -- Americans are already among the fattest people in the world and they just keep packing on the pounds. A new report finds that obesity rates have swelled during the last year in 31 states with not one state reporting that its obesity rate shrank. And, for the first time, more than 30 percent of residents in one state -- Mississippi -- are classified as obese.

Two-thirds of U.S. adults are obese or overweight, according to the Trust for America's Health.

Nationwide, two-thirds of U.S. adults are obese or overweight, according to the fourth annual report from the Trust for America's Health, titled "F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies are Failing in America." The report's co-author says the government needs to treat this trend as an epidemic that threatens the health of Americans and put in place a national plan in place to combat obesity.

"The key recommendation in the report is we need a national strategy," said report co-author Jeffrey Levi.

He noted that the federal government has created a comprehensive plan to be implemented in the event of an outbreak of pandemic flu.

"We need something like that in obesity that says this is what every agency of the federal government is doing. [It's] what we can do to directly affect this problem and motivate individual communities and businesses to play their role as well," Levi said.

The CDC's point man on obesity, Dr. William Dietz, said he could see no drawbacks to the appointment of an obesity czar who would coordinate federal programs.

No Big Brother, not another governmental agency to police what we eat and how fat we get.

This is what happens in a government bloated by tax dollars with people needing to justify their jobs and huge salaries and benefits. It will only get worse to we ensure every American is a law-breaker and will will bow at the government alter when directed.

Sad, sad American our parents are handing us. Thanks for nothing.

'Smith!' screamed the shrewish voice from the telescreen. '6079 Smith W.! Yes, you! Bend lower, please! You can do better than that. You're not trying. Lower, please! That's better, comrade. Now stand at ease, the whole squad, and watch me.'

A sudden hot sweat had broken out all over Winston's body. His face remained completely inscrutable. Never show dismay! Never show resentment! A single flicker of the eyes could give you away.

Actually just eat less. Exercise will help but if you don’t want to be fat/obese eat less, maybe lot’s less.

That’s a new one on me. First time I’ve heard of it. My knee jerk reaction is this is a money vacuum. Just my 2 cent opinion.

if we could harvest the fat via liposuction and then turn it into oil

we could run this country forever talking about recycling

and everyone would be fat and happy at one point or another

It is shocking to go to another country. You just don’t see too many huge people. The reason we have this problem is lifestyle. We drive too much and on average don’t exercise. We also eat huge portions compared to most places and drink a lot of high calorie drinks. Even our kids are fat. Why? Because they play video games instead of playing outside. It really is shocking to see how many giant eight year olds there are now. Kids like that were rare when I was a kid. Heck giant adults were too and now huge slobs are everywhere. Back in 1960, when I was a youngman, the average adult weighed 25 lbs less than now!
